Clean screen:
I went completely clean screen this year which was most likely the biggest change of any I had made. I turned off the pitching marker, runner windows, base running diamond, the pitchers available pitches, that annoying blue diamond that would pop up around fielders and the even more annoying dugout suggestions say when a pitcher was getting fatigued or there might be a sacrifice bunt situation. I’m sure there are more things I turned off as well. By far the biggest adjustment was turning off the pitching marker. It was a major learning curve that surprisingly didn’t take nearly as long as anticipated. I will not be going back. This along with turning the vibration off and all other visual aids has brought a whole new experience to pitching and this game.
Cameras:
I had pitched and hit from the same camera since the day I started playing this game. Pitching from a hitter’s perspective. I then went to the broadcast camera that so many and now I use. Wow. Huge difference. Does it actually impact gameplay in any way? Probably not but it certainly adds different perspectives especially so with the different angles the broadcast view offers. Beautiful really. I also went to the broadcast views for offense and defense after using the medium view for probably forever honestly. Really enjoy it. I continue to use the retro camera for hitting as I have since the day it was introduced however I have tried several different cameras just for fun and there really are some solid other choices.
Auto everything:
I switched to auto base running, defense and even throwing which again I wasn’t even aware was a thing. I really enjoy it so far. Auto base running frustrates me at times but I feel like it evens the playing field with some of the weird mistakes that the computer does at times. Auto fielding is always beautiful but this year I thought even more so. Using all the auto options along with classic pitching and directional hitting has really helped me embrace player ratings more than ever before. It’s been several years since I used zone hitting and meter pitching and I’ll be honest I miss it at times but I keep going back to the approach written above and I think I’ll stick with it for quite some time.
PS5:
I was fortunate enough to receive a PS5 for a gift this year. I would not have purchased it for myself that’s for sure. Without sounding to cheesy but it’s a whole new ballgame. Unbelievable really. I’m not telling you guys anything you don’t know. For someone who grew up with SEGA baseball it’s been a pretty unreal experience for me.
Game mode:
This is incredibly embarrassing to write but I actually had no idea what “game mode “ actually did on a television. I went from a PS4 to a PS5 and found myself saying “that’s it?” Not seeing much of a difference really. I thought I had an awful TV or something. Switched to game mode and BOOM. The game seemed smother, crisper and I started SMASHING The ball. I honestly had no idea. Oh well lol.
I had posted not that long ago on this site about how I didn’t know what had happened to this game. It was me. I had to change some things and develop a new experience for myself. I stopped using what works for others and found a new way that I enjoy playing this series. I reached out to and had people reach out to me through PM’s on this site and I can’t tell you how helpful that was. So to make a short post long don’t be afraid to try new things to enjoy something you used to and now love all over again.
