    Nothing changes if nothing changes

Over the last year of this series I have made more changes in the way I play and approach this game than I have in the previous 18 years of playing this game. Below are just some examples.

    Clean screen:
I went completely clean screen this year which was most likely the biggest change of any I had made. I turned off the pitching marker, runner windows, base running diamond, the pitchers available pitches, that annoying blue diamond that would pop up around fielders and the even more annoying dugout suggestions say when a pitcher was getting fatigued or there might be a sacrifice bunt situation. I’m sure there are more things I turned off as well. By far the biggest adjustment was turning off the pitching marker. It was a major learning curve that surprisingly didn’t take nearly as long as anticipated. I will not be going back. This along with turning the vibration off and all other visual aids has brought a whole new experience to pitching and this game.

    Cameras:
I had pitched and hit from the same camera since the day I started playing this game. Pitching from a hitter’s perspective. I then went to the broadcast camera that so many and now I use. Wow. Huge difference. Does it actually impact gameplay in any way? Probably not but it certainly adds different perspectives especially so with the different angles the broadcast view offers. Beautiful really. I also went to the broadcast views for offense and defense after using the medium view for probably forever honestly. Really enjoy it. I continue to use the retro camera for hitting as I have since the day it was introduced however I have tried several different cameras just for fun and there really are some solid other choices.

    Auto everything:
I switched to auto base running, defense and even throwing which again I wasn’t even aware was a thing. I really enjoy it so far. Auto base running frustrates me at times but I feel like it evens the playing field with some of the weird mistakes that the computer does at times. Auto fielding is always beautiful but this year I thought even more so. Using all the auto options along with classic pitching and directional hitting has really helped me embrace player ratings more than ever before. It’s been several years since I used zone hitting and meter pitching and I’ll be honest I miss it at times but I keep going back to the approach written above and I think I’ll stick with it for quite some time.

    PS5:
I was fortunate enough to receive a PS5 for a gift this year. I would not have purchased it for myself that’s for sure. Without sounding to cheesy but it’s a whole new ballgame. Unbelievable really. I’m not telling you guys anything you don’t know. For someone who grew up with SEGA baseball it’s been a pretty unreal experience for me.

    Game mode:
This is incredibly embarrassing to write but I actually had no idea what “game mode “ actually did on a television. I went from a PS4 to a PS5 and found myself saying “that’s it?” Not seeing much of a difference really. I thought I had an awful TV or something. Switched to game mode and BOOM. The game seemed smother, crisper and I started SMASHING The ball. I honestly had no idea. Oh well lol.

I had posted not that long ago on this site about how I didn’t know what had happened to this game. It was me. I had to change some things and develop a new experience for myself. I stopped using what works for others and found a new way that I enjoy playing this series. I reached out to and had people reach out to me through PM’s on this site and I can’t tell you how helpful that was. So to make a short post long don’t be afraid to try new things to enjoy something you used to and now love all over again.

Good post. Curious…..you turned off the blue circle that appears under the players on auto field? Did I read that right? I will gladly name my next child after you if you can tell me how you did it.

Yep….the PS5. It brought 20 alive for me. Jcao725 discovered dynamic mode and game mode on his t.v. And it actually corrected the Rockies pinstripe colors, so yeah……it’s great.

Game has a learning curve in every degree. If you followed my post when the game came out I was befuddled at first, putting it nicely.

Good post. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into a ‘nothing has changed” gripefest.

Ah, of course….that works. I do hope they fix that one thing with manual throwing on. Used to be able to turn it off when manual throwing.

The more things change the more they stay the same.
I would kind of be surprised if the blue circle isnt changed for 24. I like autofield but I also like to manual throw. So I went the grin and bear it route last year, played with that damned blue circle on.

Yeah, I did too. Helps me stay awake.

I sent in about 52 glitch reports on this.

Auto throw on 23 after auto fielding and manual throwing since 09.

Not looking back now. I actually feel like more plays and animations opened up....especially lineout double up the runner plays opened up!!!

More RNG more ratings based....love it.

I've been playing The Show since 2006. Initially played hooked up to a TV and always wondered why my hitting was so terrible. Several years later I got a gaming monitor and my hitting instantly went from Rookie level to All Star bordering on HOF. I always thought I was just terrible and it turns out it was my tv lol.

I’m not a clean screen “purist” but I certainly keep the overlays minimal.

Sounds like you and I are run similar cameras. I pitch from broadcast as I love how different away stadiums have different views. I field from broadcast, too - my most recent change back in 2021. Anytime my friends see that camera they remark how good it looks. I hit from retro because I like to see the batter’s entire body. The strike zone zoom cameras are easier but I hate that look.

This sounds pretty much how I play as well, I don't run completely "clean screen" either, but I do turn off quite a bit, basically the only thing I keep on is the pitching stuff, as far as cams go I run everything broadcast where I can.
I want to try and replicate what I watch to how I play...I can't however hit from broadcast view, believe me I've tried...lol so I use a custom cam based on the "catcher" default cam, just a few edits on the "catcher cam" and I am good.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

Thanks to Armor and Sword I largely moved towards everything that you mentioned here. Not completely clean screen but pretty close to it. Classic pitching is a game changer.

I went with auto fielding and enjoyed it but do miss actually doing it myself. I think I’ll keep on auto.

I do manual throwing and base running and will likely keep the same. Interesting though that many do auto for both. Might make that change as well!

Manual base running. I can wind up with 4 runners on one base.
