Re: MLB 24 Franchise team choice?

I’m a lifelong Mets fan and for the first time I’m heavily leaning towards using them this year. Usually I never play with my favorite team just because I’m too invested in real life.

However this season presents a unique situation where the Mets can be competitive, have young pieces, have solid veteran players but are in a transition year. Pitching staff is kinda rough and it’s going to be a massive free agency year in 2025.

If it’s not the Mets, I love the Angels & Rockies with a slim chance of doing the Red Sox (kind of a Mets type situation).

Either way it feels like it’s lining up to be a great year!

I think the Padres are another good one to pick. In 22/23 they presented some budget difficulties that could be fun to deal with, since they had a high payroll without as high of revenue. Should be a little less of that.

As far as OSFM, I don't wait. It's all real players in organizations in the default rosters now. I'm hopeful (though not optimistic for 24) that there is some sort of licensing agreement with the Minor League players since they're unionized now, so there'd be even fewer missing prospects/minor league players. But in either case, I don't think it's worth it to wait over 3 months for rosters. Once there's a roster update that adds all the new players in April (especially since there aren't any major players on suspension like Tatis last year), I'll be firing up my franchise.

I’m leaning towards KC. Or maybe Detroit?

My plan is to assign it starts before the Bellinger trade. I’m going to pull Bellinger and Snell over to their roster and go from there. See if can make something happen with Whitt and company.

I'm going with Seattle and adding some Mariners legends. It's going to be fun playing in the Kingdome.

Has anybody done a White Sox chise? The Show needs to add manager attributes in the game. Some managers have tempers and nice to see injections in the game. Ozzie Guillen is a perfect example. Don't understand the difference between fighting in hockey and managers getting tossed for arguing calls.

Managers could definitely use some fleshing out. The few attributes they do have are good start, but so much more would take it next level. And they all need to be editable.

I think the biggest difference with MLB and NHL in regards to fighting and arguing calls, NHL desperately needs whatever attention they can pull their way while MLB still has too much stodgy blood in it. MLB needs eyeballs to but they aren't going to go the same path NHL is willing to walk. MLB already has a lot at stake they feel they stand to lose with risky business and NHL has more to gain taking a walk on the wild side.

I did one this past year and enjoyed it. Made it to the world series but fell in six games to the Mets. I stagnated some in the second year as football season ramped up and never made it past August, but we were trending towards being a Wild Card team.

Cubs - won't be until late in the cycle, though

I do want to see which of the young prospects will get their chance

Thinking of doing the A’s, love their uniforms. They got some good players, plus it’ll be an alternate reality where Fisher sold the team so I would spend money on actual good free agents.

I’ll likely run a March to October with the Yankees from the get go and then use that to head into 2025. Should be fun to mix in some of their younger talent coming up with guys like Judge & Soto. Looking fwd to it.

Will definitely want to spin up a NL team at some point too, but in looking at other teams, right now the Guardians look most appealing with some of the young talent they have coming up, and I’ve never done one as them before.

I also normally do a Rockies franchise and try and inject some life into their org. Did one last year where I ended up signing Vlad Jr and it was a lot of fun.

If I can find nice looking stadium for A's, I will use them this year.

If you search the vault for Oakland Athletics there are a bunch.

Also, Oaklands stadium in the show is actually not that bad to play in.
