    Perplexing Face Scan Process

I am completely lost as to how faces scans are handled by the Show these days.

Prior to Full minors, they basically introduced players (almost all with face scans) in the game the year after they debuted. There were here and there exceptions like Tatis, Vladdy, Jackson Holiday, and Elly. NOW - it's like 50/50 whether a player will have a scan even 2 years after they have debuted.

Once full minors came, they basically introduced scans or renders for all the top 100 prospects that year. Not only that, mid season they introduced like 15-20 renders for that years draft class. These weird renders have only been touched this year with some of the players who debuted last year. ( I also think weirdly last year they updated some of the renders for the DBacks only).
NOW, they do not introduce faces scan for ANY minor leaguers anymore since that first time. (except Holliday). AS time has passed and propects go up and down in rankings, a lot of those prospects they did scan aren't even really prospects anymore. Looking at the top 100 in franchise, Jackson Chourio is the only player I see with a scan that didn't have on before (he also signed a major league contract though). Only 7 scans in the top 30. the most egregious being of the non scanned being players who debuted last year like Nolan schanuel, junior caminero etc

I know we were giving them a lot of grace with scans due to covid and the lockout so maybe they were unable to get into camp to scan teams. But this is the year I thought largely everyone would be scanned but has not happened.
Stilll some teams looked largely untouched like the angels who have no scans for players who played a lot last year like Schanuel, silseth, Neto, Davis Daniel, Jordyn Adams, etc. But the one caveat I could find to throw a wrench into everything is the Oakland A's. This team seemingly has every single player face scanned. EVERY One of their AAAA players who won't be in the league next year, prospects, other players who didn't debut that ive never heard of lol Just odd how this all is handled.

You are right, Some teams look great like the Mets and some look terrible. And also whoever did Bruce Bochy he should send them a gift basket he looks 45 instead of 65 lol

From what I have gathered, players also need to make themselves available for a scan. If they don't, then SDS has their hands tied with that. I've been waiting for AJ Hinch to be scanned since he became the Tigers manager, and the only thing that makes sense is that he just doesn't make himself available for it.

Yea I understand that but are we assuming that last year, less than 20 players made themselves available?

There is also years where there was a twitter page, I think the players union, that would post players being scanned but then that update wouldn't make it into game.

Could be? I'm not sure, just giving a possible reason as to why. Not saying that's the case, but it could add to the reason why players don't have scans.

For sure, for sure. And I know that was always the issue like pre covid where there would be like one or two glaring players that were no scanned. Also post covid, there's been 3 new prospects scanned. Elly, Chourio, and Holliday. Probably the top 3. I can't imagine those are the only 18 or 19 yr olds who chose to make themselves to available to have their face in a video game.

Maybe COVID played a part? They probably couldn't actually get in to scan some of these guys for a year or two, I wouldn't be surprised if they're still playing catch-up, considering how much they probably need to work around the players schedule, rather then vice-versa. But I agree, The Show used to be really good at getting them done in a timely manner

Someone posted in another thread they were just at Cardinals spring training scanning so maybe they are still hitting teams in Spring Training and there will be a decent update coming soon when the regular season starts. Could explain why certain teams are better as well.

                  Re: Perplexing Face Scan Process

How face scans are generally handled now (at least for sports games) is these studios have to go to where players are available and the players have to agree. They basically bring these big ol' kits and then hope players will agree to do the scans.

It is pretty straightforward now to update ish on the whole I think so I do think SDS can do regular updates (like Madden) if they want if their work pipeline is put together for all that.

But yeah, I don't have an answer for why some teams have way more than others for sure, but my guess is it's either SDS not being able to get any of them to do it on certain MLB teams (or the PR reps for the team being annoying about it overall), or SDS not giving the folks in charge enough budget to go to each place to do it.

I've been waiting for them to update Anthony Rendon to his current "full beard with short hair" look that he's had for about 4 years now but it looks like it still has his 2019 look. Must be that he's not making himself available to SDS. I mean he doesn't even care enough to make himself available to his own team, why would SDS be any different?

So I give them grace on this. If you know anything about Rendon lol he seems like the last person on earth to go in and get a scan lol

Yea I saw that. I don't believe that them updating a team during the season is a thing. Standard practice usually is the scans from spring this year are for next years game.

I’m not complaining because I’m a Twins fan and the scans for them are looking pretty damn good. But some guys off the top of my head that definitely need fixing that are pretty rough and hopefully are in the works:

                          Grayson Rodriguez
                          Jarren Duran
                          Josh Lowe

I’m sure there are many more.

A whole team, no, but they have definitely updated some players during the season before which is the same I would expect this year.

Yeah, a lot of it is on the players too. I notice Gavin Sheets still doesn't have one. Heck, Trout didn't have one for a while.
