In previous years, the CPU threw in the zone too much. Last year it was something like 52% of pitches were in the zone on All-Star (Humans are generally even higher, when I decided to track some online games it was typically well north of 60%). Irl in 2023, 42% of pitches were in the zone. Like a lot of things, SDS isn't wrong, it's outdated, as that 50% number is where things stood 15-20 years ago.

Before this patch, the CPU was throwing in the zone less. Around 45%. That was encouraging. I just played a game today where the Padres' Joe Musgrove (44.8% Zone % for his career), Matt Waldron (45.3%), and Jhony Brito (42.4%) combined to throw 75% of their pitches in the zone. It's just 1 game, but feels like a huuuuge overcorrection to me.

Would changing the slider for CPU strike frequency or CPU pitcher control help this, maybe?

I just finished a game against the Astros (Legend hitting) where I drew a combined 5 walks. I don't know where the percentage of strikes were, but the CPU does a good job of throwing pitches out of the zone, especially if I'm chasing pitches.

I haven't noticed a difference in CPU throwing pitches out of the zone versus in the zone pre and post patch. My experience has been that it hasn't changed.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I track in-the-zone pitches myself. I agree on that 52%. I was getting that and higher towards the end in 23. My bb% was going down and I didn’t like it.

My bb% is even lower in 24. A little over 6% and I’m striking out LOOKING a lot trying get that up.

Seems like the cpu hits the black and gets the call a lot more in 24

I didn’t have that big a sample before the patch but I don’t think there was any change.

I too was thinking of moving cpu strike frequency down to 4 to see if that will get it down below 50% which what I’d like.

Trying finish my 50 game sample before changing my settings. I basically started with my 23 sliders and haven’t changed anything yet. Another four games to go.
