    24 has no soul

Played 20 last night…that’s a true baseball game. Gets all the fundamentals correct. More I play 24 more I feel it’s missing what made the show so great. 20 plays smoother (especially on ps5)…Matty V was just made for the show…20 is a challenge…there is actually a strategy to pitching…not just throwing a 2 strike slider for an auto k in 24. Bunting is great on 20…check swings feel great again. We all know 24 is catered to online folks but glad I redownloaded 20. Also, the morale system gave franchise some life. Starting a 1987 Mariners franchise up. Hopefully, SCEA brings back the soul in 25.

I love ‘20. Started a winterball all franchise, but after 5 games went back to 24. Disagree with your assessment about auto Ks, etc, but, to each his own. Do want to see an update to presentation tho in ‘25 as it hasn’t changed much from ‘20.

To each their own. 24 is da bomb for me. Not sure what your settings are but a 2 strike slider is not an automatic out for me against the cpu by any stretch.

I've enjoyed 20 to 24 but the soul of the Show has been severly lim>ted after 19. And while its becaus19 was the last one where I could run my 'pen the way I wanted. And while thats because the Show is just following current new IRL MLB rules, I just wish MLBTS would have left in the optional choice between new and old rules.

Yes, worst thing to happen in baseball is the 3 batter minimum rule. Love 19 too!!

I agree with 20 being the best of the last 5 iterations. Though 23 plays pretty darn well.

Going to disagree about the morale system. It caused way more issues than it was worth. If it didn't cause crazy issues with depth charts and prospects, I would say it was half way decent.

Also progression/regression were improved on 23/24.

The draft prospect generation was better in 23/24. Though I will admit I prefer the old scouting and drafting to the new one.

I think they are all good; however, one thing I do agree woth original poster about is pitching. In both 23 and 24 pitching took a major step back for me. Game still fun but I strike out way too many batters and my pitchers generally outperform their ratings significantly. This doesn't happen to me when I play MLB The Show versions prior to MLB23.

In 23 and 24, I set it using dynamic difficulty to Legend+ and locked it in. I use meter pitching and quick counts on. I struck out 15 a couple nights ago with Colin Rea of Brewers and game before that was complete game shutout using DL Hall. My stats are just too good. If I tried same settings on games prior to MLB23 I would get crushed.

‘20 feels so antiquated now. The only thing I miss from it versus ‘24 is my carryover save and the MLB Network theme.

Other than that for me ‘20 pales in comparison to ‘24 both on and off the field

Try turning off quick counts, I had the same problem and when I turned off QC it got much better.

I think another thing, its soul has shifted locations so insomuch as to some of us may not recognize it, but I feel like the larger part of The Show soul resides within Diamond Dynasty. I know a lot of us here resist playing DD, but its really not bad baseball, its just different baseball. Give it an honest chance, to see how much of their heart and soul the developers have actually poured into MLBTS.

I've said this before, but for me, there is no better sports game than MLB TS 24. I can't believe I'm still seeing new animations after hundreds of franchise games.

No game captures playoff sports like TS 24, it's so intense.

Gotta disagree with you. 24 plays better than any version of the game to date. Also nothing is an automatic out. I got burned on a 2 strike pitch by Tony Kemp of all people that lost me the game the other night. Some of the better offensive players are a real challenge with runners on base. 20 was great, but 24 is by far the best IMO.

I will agree with you on Matty V though. I've never been a fan of the Boog and Singleton commentary in this game.

I enjoy them all (except 21 he he).

The best version is the one you enjoy the most.

For me playing modern baseball I loved 23 (still have not tried out 24).

But for classic roster baseball nothing comes close to 20 for my taste.

I only play classic roster sets and for me, in franchise mode, it's hard to differentiate between playing modern day or classic sets when listening to the announcers, seeing season and career milestone tidbits popping up on the scorebar or for the batter during the at bat. The announcing gets so much better as the season moves along and into the postseason and is so immersive. It's crazy I feel I lose nothing when playing with a user created classic roster set as opposed to the official rosters. That's some soul, in my opinion, if you're willing to allow yourself to be immersed.

One of the many reasons I love 20 for classic roster play is the vast audio library of all those classic players in comparison to when the change was made in the booth. Also the gameplay engine under the hood lends itself better to classic roster baseball....that's a personal opinion after 1000's of hours of gameplay. Sounds of the Show also lends itself into some serious immersion with classic rosters. I have 70's and 80's era specific audio packs that have elevated my immersion using rosters from those two era's.
