I'm very much of the belief that the lack of graphical enhancement in this series is an engine limitation and not a hardware one. I think they are so beholden to this current engine that they've been building upon for decades that they are not willing to take any risks that might compromise the IMO pretty stellar gameplay they've accomplished with it.

That's fair. I've never been a huge graphics guy, I'm more of a gameplay first person, buuuuuuut, I want the graphics to improve somewhat from console cycle to console cycle whether that be smoother player movements, increased polygon counts, better lighting, etc.

Building a game engine is no joke and takes lots of time, I know firsthand being in the industry. But it is tough to see some legacy graphics from the PS4 era still present. I just want to keep moving forward rather than staying still.

Conversely, if we stayed with the same graphics but Franchise Mode was continuing to be worked on to where it gets to the 2Ks NBA, then I'll shut up about graphics. But, we're getting incremental changes there to where it feels like roster updates with one new thing in Franchise to play with along with dated graphics.

I'm probably asking for too much or coming off as entitled (I don't mean to be), but I just expect more for my $70 each year.

Then there was no reason to take it off the Game Pass Ultimate (cloud) option.

My guess is the money they make off of individual sales on Xbox, while lower in total player number, will be greater than compensation Xbox pays them to have the game on Game Pass

Especially now that they got rid of last gen, it’s their way to make up for the gamepass downloads. I believe companies get paid on the actual downloads themselves for gamepass too.

No disrespect to MLBTS but maybe it didn't get enough downloads on Game Pass to bring it back?

Nah I think this was always the plan, make a whole new demographic fan of the game and then pull the plug and let them pay. Basically how they introduce new drugs on the streets haha. Hand out some free samples so they get addicted and next time they gotta pay up.

The one issue I have with article is the assumption that when Switch 2 comes out SDS can abandon the Switch and upgrade the graphics. I do not think they will want to immediately abandon all the customers who still have the Switch and have not bought the Switch 2.

Yep, I agree with you. If they haven't with PS4, then why would they with the first Switch? It'll be few years at the very least before they pull the plug on that console.

Maybe I'm not comprehending this exchange correctly but Sony has pulled the plug on the PS4 version of MLBTS as well as the last gen XBox and as soon as Nintendo has a current gen console, there's no reason not to believe the Sony will pull the plug on the original Switch.

I’ll admit they got me with that. When they timed up the game pass debut with stadium creator (which I had wished for since I was about 6), I bought a series S just to play 21.

If it wasn't Sony making MLBTS but third party developers instead, I might think third party developers would care about Nintendo, but I don't believe Sony will. Who knows, Sony might inadvertently help Nintendo sell the switch 2 faster for Nintendo.

Yeah, I'm happy with where the Show is graphically too. I think the loud fuss comes from a small minority, definitely louder than the majority that are okay with Show graphics. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease but eventually there isn't enough grease to go around and the wheel just gets replaced.
