Re: ***Official Community Preview Questions Thread***
This doesn't really go towards 09 but I was wondering if we will ever get rid of ratings?
Instead of players contracts, etc being judged by ratings will we ever get to the point of player stats/history/age being the deciding points on contracts and overall player "worth".
We can still have the "hard" data like 60yard speed, strength, lat speed etc...
I feel that would add so much more to spring training and make trading a free agency that much more "stressful"
Just throwing this out there as I await 09'Joshua:

I have not heard that it has changed but I thought they did not want people fixating on numbers and that is why they chose to stay with the slide system.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment

Yah i'm 99% sure that it is still the bar system. I saw it in the screens released with the Franchise blog.MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
NBA: New York Knicks
NFL: Houston Texans, St. Louis Rams

Other: Sounds/Crowd Noise
The crowd noise for the most part is great but theres one thing lacking, the crowd goes nuts when someone crosses the plate but should go nuts before hand when the ball hits the grass and they know the player will be home.
so question is do you hear the crowd in 09 roar more so when the ball drops and you have a runner thats going to score or does it still just stay relatively more calm until someone crosses the plate.
This really bothers me after awhile it really makes it feel like a video game instead of the real dealComment

i don't mind the bar system i just wish there were #'s to go along with it, i remember another game i believe a 2k one that had #'s and you could go up and down 10 #'s at a time using the L and R triggers, that saved a lot of time.Comment

More and more on this particular point....I'M WITH YOU:wink:
Give me my scouts ratings and opinions...
....and I'll figure it out from there.
Enough with the numbers(once I edited them and closed it from the USER being able to view them that is)
But I hate the "sortable" column parade that player ratings have become.
Seeing the ridiculous "what's this player or that player rated?" thread makes me want to vomit.
Okay...I'm putting it all out there now

Re: ***Official Community Preview Questions Thread***
Not really questions, but after playing a TON of The Show I have some things I think need to be addressed:
Errors and scoring - the last two games never get this right. If a guy reaches via an error and scores, it counts as an earned run in most situations which is incorrect.
Fielding - outfielders almost always throw to the cut-off man when in real world situations they wouldn't. And either runners are too fast, making 3-6-1 double plays nearly impossible and I never see my catcher (in RTTS when I'm the pitcher) throw out an attempted baserunner.
Manager Logic - managers go with 5 man rotations in the Playoffs which just isn't smart. And some of the logic on who to play is odd to say the least. In my RTTS, I play for the Mets and they have Reyes and Tulowitzki on the bench every year with inferior players in the lineup. It seems like the manager AI only values contact ratings.
Gold Glove awards - Every year the gold glove for pitchers and catchers goes to a team on the Braves. The system just looks at fielding percentage and goes in alphabetical order.
Silver Slugger - why is it only given to one player? There should be one for every position.
Players Age Too Gracefully - This is admittedly a tough thing to get right. MVP Baseball had players falling off a cliff at age 30, while in this game Carl Crawford is swiping 100 bags at age 40. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how difficult it is, but I would think there should some sort of built-in probability system that determines players improvement and decline. Say between ages 18 and 30 a guy is more likely to get better than get worse. Maybe at 18 its 99% that he improves, the amount he improves would be tied to his potential rating. By age 30, maybe that chance he improves is only down to 10%. From there, the likelihood he gets worse goes up until he hits 40 where its 99%. And certain areas would deteriorate faster, such as speed for baserunners and stamina for pitchers. I just finished the 2018 season and David Ortiz just retired with nearly 700 homeruns and over 3000 hits. I love Big Papi, but even I know there's no way he's playing in 2018 and at that high a level. And in franchise mode, I think it would be cool to have the ability to try and talk a guy out of retirement. I'm sure Greg Maddux would be willing to pitch in 2009 if someone wanted to give him an absurd amount of money. Having that ability would allow the player to correct for perhaps improbably logic, say a guy coming off an MVP year at age 38 deciding to retire because he's too old.
At any rate, I love last year's game and am determined to make the Hall with my starting pitcher before this year's drops. Those are just some the little things that get to me while playing.Comment

Re: ***Official Community Preview Questions Thread***
When I create a player I would like his abilities to coincide with his stats. like his fielding % batting average Home Runs etc.
Instead of using a slider I could put in his 336 Batting Average.

Re: ***Official Community Preview Questions Thread***
i hope there is a way to throw to the cutoff man after i've already made the decision to go to another base, for instance sometimes i would throw to home then realize i should have just thrown to the cutoff man to avoid having the cpu runner advance to 2nd on meComment
