Seems, for most stores breaking the date would not only cost them sanctions but would also bring up distribution issues in the future with that company. One way to combat it till the street date, i say price it 9999.99 dollars, then only the manager would be able to lower the price to the correct MSRP.

stores can be fined if they are caught selling a game prior to street date.

I got NCAA '06 at a CompUSA in Louisville and later found out they were fined by EA(according to CompUSA)

I just never have understood why video games aren't like DVD's. Granted DVD's are never sold early but you also know every store From Cali to NY will have the DVD on that Tuesday. It's not like video games, where one store may have it on a Tuesday, while another is on a Thursday. I think if they made it more like DVD's everyone would be happy.

One reason i think is because sooner it hits the streets sooner it can be copied, and sold as a bootleg version. This is why street dates exist.

However as an aside when a street date is broken by someone in the US. Does the demand rise or would it be static, because the demand has always been there, however now a new demand curve would result that the game is out there lets go find it.

Its kinda interesting, and yes i know dvd's can be copied too but those are sold at 20 dollars, games at 60 that intellectual property should be protected atleast some.
