Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
This game is poetry in motion. Every game feels unique, every pitcher different, the rhythms distinct. I love the dynamic feel of a pitcher struggling to find his location early on, fighting through and gritting out a few more innings, then crashing early from the high pitch counts. Or the feeling of breaking a pitcher down with a couple of key hits.
The only thing that's missing for me--literally, the single, lone thing I'd change--is variability of CPU pitching performance. The pitchers feel different because of their stuff, but they all seem to pound the zone relentlessly. I give up 2-4 walks per game, but the CPU is ALWAYS pitching ahead. And when I swing and get hits off first pitch strikes, it doesn't adjust and throw more balls.

Rudy--I don't think any one level is that much harder than the rest. I think if you can tweak your offensive sliders, you would be happy on HOF or Legend. I can tell you that on legend default, there are errors, bobbles, high pitch counts...all good stuff. I would imagine HOF is similar. Like I said, just tweak the sliders so you have your offense and the rest should be good.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
I'm just going to stay on All-Star and deal with the lack of a realistic error system. My only hope is that they patch it or at the very least make the slider work right. No reason that if I max it out I shouldn't be seeing an error a game against me. All-Star is perfectly tuned to my skills right now and I'd rather not have to jump to HOF, tweak for awhile and see if it plays better. I love everything else about All-Star but the errors are easily the worst I've seen since buying the Show going back to '06. Its just frustrating since everything else feels so great.
I swear after watching my at-bats there are 3-4 walks out there for the taking in a game, but I just can't get them, lol. If I take pitch one, that's the time they throw a strike. If I go up swinging to avoid an 0-1 count, that's when they throw a ball, lol.Comment

Are you getting walks, rudy? I'm finally starting to get some deeper counts, but especially with two strikes I just seem incapable of fighting one off and getting a ball on the next pitch or two.

In 10 games with the Reds I have only 5 walks. That's terrible but that's not on the game. I actually drew three walks in my last game with the Tigers. I have issued 24 walks with the Reds in 10 games so that's pretty decent from the other side although my staff ERA is 5.38 and I'm 3-7. Ouch!Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
What about controlling all the teams, i.e. if a trade goes through between two random teams in real life and I want that to reflect in my season or franchise. Can I make that happen in both modes? After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Well...off to a good start this season. I swept the Pirates today to start the season 4-0. I beat them on opening day(vs Ian Snell) 14-3...lol. The following scores were...
Game 2: 5-4 (11 innings)
Game 3: 4-0
Game 4: 8-6 (Pujols hit his first homerun of the season which is a 3 run walk off)
I love this game.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Opening day Mets at Cincinnati and what an intense game! E.Volquez pitches 8 shut out innings allowing only five hits. Santana pitches six innings allowing four hits and one run off a homerun by Phillips in the fifth inning.
Finally, in the top of the ninth Mets score three runs, two off a Delgado homerun to take the lead. Bottom of the ninth Reyes bobbles the ball (error charged) allowing a Red run. But finally, J. Putz holds the fort for Rodriguez to come in and earn the money finishing the Reds with men on first and third with the strikeout.
Carlos Delgado Player of the game!
AB:4, R:1, H:2, RBI:2, HR:1

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Well, so much for my hot start. I lost my series opener vs Astros 16-1. The Astros scored 16 runs without a homerun and only 9 runs were earned. They had 16 runs on 11 hits and I finished with 8 errors on the day.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
