It is wonderful to hear the glowing reviews of this game.

Looks like the SCEA boys did what they said they would do.

I can't wait to get home and pop this in. Straight into a 14-game season to get my feet wet and test the settings.

Loving the game so far... Truly a masterpiece...BUT...Does anyone know if SCEA has officially commented on the early retirement bug Bill Abner mentioned here:

I just finished simming the 2009 season and had Arod retire after hitting .299 44HR and 128 RBI's, Derek Lee after hitting .331 22HR and 106 RBI and Pujols after hitting .311 35HR and 135 RBI. There were a few others- but none as egregious as these. All these guys seem to have retained most of their ratings, so that can't be it- and they didn't get hurt....Just seems odd- and apparently it's not just an isolated thing.....Anyone else dabbled in Franchise enough to notice this?

That's the new steroid feature for 09, all three of those guys were busted and received a life time ban in that franchise.

If that retirement thing is true, that's a game killer for me. Hopefully it's not. Why would Pujols retire after THIS year?

              Just an FYI-

Always SAVE at the end of the season... right before you click the button to head into the off season.

That way, if you view the retirements and you don't like what you see - simply load the game back up and try again. I know its kind of a hassle but its worth it if you don't feel some big names are ready for retirement...

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions

The game is really impressive so far, but I do have some complaints about it.

They still haven't fixed their roster management settings. The way they have it set up for adding FA's is just dreadful. They needed to take a page out of NBA 2K's book, where you just click on a name and it asks you if you want to assign them to a team. It's so much simpler. Adding Dunn, Abreu, etc was such a pain in the balls.

The loading times are kind of bleh.

They did a pretty good job with the stances/deliveries, but there's still ones that drive me insane like not having K-Rod or Papelbon's correct delivery after two-three years.

Once you get on the field and actually play the game though, any of those complaints are gone. The actual gameplay/presentation are just phenomenal and unmatched.

Ok, so i bought 2k9 and brought it home, opened the case and flipped through the manual (waste of time its like stereo instructions) played in the dome........for all of about 3 innings and turned the game off, put it back in the case and returned it to the store. Bought the show and..... WoW This is by far the best baseball game i have played. Looks,Sounds,Feel,Gameplay, and Controls. Yes like mentioned there are some collision issues and some models that COULD be better. but you over look all of that once you hit a homer at home and the fans go nuts. or you smoke a line drive in the bottom of the 9th to win the game and yoiu rush to turn down the TV because its so loud.

Plain and simple SCEA has yet again dominated the Baseball market again and will be the only competition for EA next year.

Dear lord, I just watched the Cubs/Brewers vid from Pasta and oh my did the absolutely NAIL Harden's motion from start to finish! I'm a White Sox fan, but I saw a lot of Cubs games last year and I can't believe how well they nailed Harden's motion. Its so encouraging to see something like that executed so well, but to then see so many other motions that appear to be WAY off.

I haven't purchased the game yet, I have MLB 2K9 unopened sitting in my room while I think things over about which game I truly want. For the people who have the game, would you say that the developers nailed most of the pitching motions in the game? If at all possible, can any of the developers chime in about the chance of them upgrading wrong pitching motions periodically throughout the regular season?

I don't see any reason for someone with a ps3 to purchase 2k9.

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, but the roster management menus have me frustrated. There doesn't seem to be a way to view my 40-Man roster without looking at all the players in my organization and just counting down 40 spots. There's also no call-ups send down screen. Basically, I have to manually go through each player to see who is and isn't on my 40 man and what level they play on.

If you whip yours out, I'll whip mine out and then the 'send up/send down' menus appear.
