This is SO true man. I tried to do it a little while ago and gave up. It should tell you what the problem is so you can fix it. All it does is give you the checkmark in the box, but that doesnt tell you what you should do to fix it. I dont know how anyone will be able to mess with the rosters this year.

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
If they do something about this, they should make sure that older players regress which I heard is an issue. Otherwise, there will be too many good players which can cause all sorts of problems.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
I mentioned early on that the way the rosters are set up this year is definitely different and can look a bit overwhelming and is cumbersome compared to last year, but it's certainly doable if you will take the time.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Finally got it. Took awhile as the old man ahead of me in line decided to complain about kids playing video games for 5 hours a day and not realizing it. He's buying a game for a kid, of course.
Now I finally got it... and it's caching to the HDD. *sigh* Waiting...
EDIT: Never mind, just finished as I posted.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Played one game on Legend (Twins at ChiSox), replayed the 1gm playoff from last fall. I love the fact that I walked 2 batters! I haven't walked a videogame batter since High Heat in 2004 and it feels great. I lost 6-1 and only managed 3 hits off of Danks. Love the new signature batting stances especially Morneau, Gomez, Quinten. Of all the Twins players only Mauer has the same stance as last year. The pitching deliveries look great too!Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
I love this game, but there is one thing that I don't understand. Why, in the demo, do they have the correct base coaches (Davey Lopes and Sam Perlozzo for the Phills) but in the actual game they have genaric ones? I just can't figure it out, it was such a tease
The game is amazing though, as expected. Hopefully this minor problem is one of the things being aimed at in what is known as "the patch"Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
THIS is what I've been expecting The Show to be the last three years. The subtle improvements aren't so subtle to me, IMO I think this game is a pretty decent improvement over '08. The hitting is phenomenal, I absolutely love it.
In my first game with the Yanks I hit a three run homer with Teixeria and added and RBI single. I won 5-1, had 12 hits while they had 7. That was on default All-Star.
My only concern going forward is that we're still going to have the "all hits are singles or HR's". I had 12 hits, one was a HR and 11 were singles. I used the cursor/L-stick the entire time and hit plenty of frozen ropes, just so happens that they were all 1B's.
It's a nice bonus that they fixed Phil Hughes' delivery, though they butched Cano's new stance.Last edited by ehh; 03-03-2009, 06:43 PM."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
^^Not to be the person who says " I see lot's of xxx" But in all seriousness ehh I think you will start to see some doubles soon I have a brutal RTTS guy and the one thing he can do well is hit doubles lol. Could be the lack of skill at AA.
Just to add he's 6'2 245 slow as hell and I even managed a Triple!.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
After reading all the impressions, watching videos, and playing the demo I went ahead and bought the Show. I played 2K9 earlier today and I was so disappointed in the product I immediately went back out and returned the game for the Show. Hopefully all the online issues get taken care of so I can play some of you sometime. I can't get over how great a job BSG did on all the signature batting stances they are incredible.Comment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Okay...finally got some time to play this today (picked it up last night) and here are some quick thoughts:
First, to get this out of the way KOLBE LAUGHING-BUM (yes, I purposely butchered his last name...yes, I'm a child for that) IS A BIG FAT LIAR!!!.........................
BUT...only partially and in a good way...lol. He had told me my name didn't make it it, but it DID!!!
The trouble is, I'm a dummy and didn't realize they were doing first names this year, so when the list circulated I only gave him my last name but not my first (darn the luck of having two uncommon monikers...lol).
Ironically, my first name is in the game as a last name (Pierre), but I can't access it for first names...oh well. The important thing is I'm in.
Seriously, I was so giddy when I saw that, that I created a quick guy just to hear my name. Am I vain and a bit sad for that? You betcha
Anyway, moving on to impressions other people might actually care about...lol...
-Lighting is phenominal. I've done my stadium tour and I'm extremely impressed with them. My wife did a double take when she saw it and was like "THAT'S your game!?!" The woman saw me play last year's too, so if she can notice the difference second hand, then I'm not sure how some aren't...
-Details. Once again, the details will be what make this game last for me. From the umpires and they're back stories (I can't remember the name off the top, but the guy who thinks the lower half of the strike zone is at your armpits made me want to punch infants). Awesome stuff.
Also, the improved crowds, commentary, player equipment, and stances (seriously, I agree with whoever said much earlier that it seems like nearly everyone major got a new stance...that's what it felt like in my brief time so far) extremely well done.
I played two games. The first was on Veteran and one I only ended up playing because I got engrossed in it...lol. It was the Nats at SF and I just couldn't stop playing. the fact that I barely squeaked by with a 4-2 victory made me questin my manhood a bit though.
The second game (Sox/Astros), I played on Legend and my manhood was no longer in question. I'm a girl...and not a pretty one either. I'm awkward, gangly, and have no self-esteem. No one will take me to prom. I lost BAD 8-1. My lone run a HR by Youk (who had my only two hits, by the way).
-Gameplay just seems so refined. I could (and will) play this game for hours on end. Hitting and pitching are SUPERB. Everything feels tighter and much more engrossing...especially on legend. I felt like I was sweating out every pitch of every AB...both on the hill and at the dish. GREAT STUFF>
I only have two gripes right now in my infancy 09 stages. I'm a bit bugged by the lack of ability to hire/fire managers in season (I had read about it from Knight and others and tried furiously to prove them wrong...lol)
The other is fielding. It's clearly improved, but it still suffers from the same general sense of a lack of control overall. I'm not saying I need everything completely loosey-goosey out there, but a bit more focus on control over animation would be nice. There are still times where I feel helpless and still times where it switches to the wrong guy and my OF is diving like a nut for no reason.
Even though it's early, considering that is my only gameplay related gripe, I'm not too bummed out or anything. I just hope the user control is a bit more fleshed out in 2010.
Haven't got a chance to check out the custom chants feature yet. My bluetooth is currently afixed to my wife's ear on work trip. But I can't wait to dive into that as well.
Anyway, that's all off of limited time with the game. I'll have to likely write a book (okay...a bigger book) when I actually dive into RTTS, franchise and the like.
Bottom line...me likeyComment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
Installed the game loved seeing Matt talk about the best second basemen off all time. Got some batting practice in and the over cast day looked so damn good. I picked Alfonso Soriano and had Jeff Samardzija throw 4 seam fastballs. That was fun. Now im stuck at work for 8 hours when i would rather be playing MLB 09 The Show.MLB: Chicago Cubs
NFL: San Diego Chargers
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
NBA: Chicago Bulls
NCAA: Iowa HawkeyesComment

Re: MLB 09: The Show - Impressions
O MY F-ING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
I just played my first game ever in MLB 09 The Show.
I was the philles At the Tigers on Legend mode!
First I just want to say the Demo of 09 is "pure crap" compared to the final product.
I can not get over how this game looks compared to 08! Everything is like others have said smooth as butter.
And I am so F-ing happy to say I got a lot of extra base hits. 1 tripple a double you name it I had it. All in my first game.
Quite a few hits went right over out fielders heads while I was batting and also while the CPU was batting.
CPU hit a ball to center field and the ball just kept going and going and my center fielder Shane Victorino could just not catch up to the ballI was going nuts when I saw this happen. In a good way
This is the first time I have ever played a baseball video game and felt like I was playing another human. Just fantastic!
As far as my first game well it was one of the most exciting games I have ever played as far as baseball video games go.
The line score was
Phillies 9 11 1
Tigers 8 17 0
Yep I won 9 - 8 in 9 innings!!! on Legend
How about that the first time ever playing 09 and on Legend mode and I win
The game was up and down for me. Ryan Howard hit a 2 run hr in the first inning which gave me a 2 - 0 lead. Then the tigers came right back making it 2 - 2. Tigers even had a 3 run lead in the top of the 9th. And I scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th to take a 9 - 8 lead which included a Shane Victorino 2 run tripple"Ball went over the center fielders head"
Then I bring in Brad Lidge who loads the bases in the bottom of the 9th inning. But I was some how able to get out of it and won 9 - 8!
I am simply blown away by MLB 09 The Show!!!
I only saw 1 strange issue which was ultey came up to bat and when he was taking a practice swing the bat was floating in mid air lolI saw no other strange issues or bugs. But of course I only played 1 game so far.
I am sure as I play more games some of those much talked about bugs will show there ugly faces.
I would love to give MLB 09 The Show a 10 out of 10 but I wont! And this is because there is still a lot Sony can do to make this wonderful game even more realistic!
So I am giving it an 8 out of 10 only because there is still a lot to be done.
And all you need to do is look at my wish list to know what I feel needs to be added to this great game of baseball.
My hats off to Sony!!
My god what will 2010 bring?????
If you even remotely like baseball run out don't walk and buy this game now!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Its really that good"
FUN FUN FUN
O and batting practice is really cool!!
There is a lot more I would like to say but its too much typing lol
Thats it im done lol
GOD BLESS YOU SONY!!!!!Last edited by mike75; 03-03-2009, 07:54 PM.Comment
