Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Had nothing to do this week so I've been playing the crap out of The Show. Got through my sophomore year in the bigs, fourth year overall.

Almost had a "Cinderella story" of a season here.

    Team record by month:
    Apr: 12-14
    May: 10-18
    Jun: 15-12
    Jul: 13-13
    Aug: 19-9
    Sep: 13-14

    First half: 38-50, last place
Second half: 44-30, first place, won the division by 2 games
    Total: 82-80

Started off terrible and the Mariners were as much as 8 games back of first place in the division at one point. However, the AL West is absolutely terrible and we came back with a strong second half to win it being only 2 games over .500. At one point in the middle of September we had lost 6 in a row and it looked like we were going to choke, but the final stretch had us playing 13 division games in a row and we were able to take advantage of it.

    ALDS vs Yankees

    Game 1 @ Yankee Stadium
    Erik Bedard vs. CC Sabathia
    L 8-1

    Game 2
    @ Yankee Stadium
    Ryan Rowland-Smith vs. Joba Chamberlain
    W 5-1

    Game 3
    @ Safeco Field
    Jorge Campillo vs Chien-Ming Wang
    L 3-2

    Game 4 @ Safeco Field
    Tom Gorzelanny vs Phil Huges
    W 7-6

[Hit a 3 run go ahead home run in this one in the bottom of the 7th. Only HR of the postseason.]

    Game 5 @ Yankee Stadium
    Jarrod Washburn vs A.J. Burnett
    W 8-1

[They really captured Manny (yes, he plays for the Yankees) in The Show. In the first inning I hit a ball that he misread and it ended up landing by him and rolling to the wall for an RBI triple. (see video at bottom)]

So this series was basically a huge upset for us that ended with a game 5 blowout. I think the Yankees here were a 97 win team and they are STACKED. I expected to get swept but we were somehow able to hang in and eventually shock the Yanks.

    ALCS vs White Sox

    Game 1 @ U.S. Cellular Field
    Erik Bedard vs Johnny Cueto
    L 3-2

    Game 2 @ U.S. Cellular Field
    Ryan Rowland-Smith vs Mark Buehrle
    L 9-8

    Game 3 @ Safeco Field
    Jorge Campillo vs John Danks
    W 5-4

[I was 1-11 at this point in the series (and I was often reminded by the announcers of this) and 0-4 in the game, but with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th I hit a game winning single up the middle to bring Ichiro in from second.]

    Game 4 @ Safeco Field
    Tom Gorzelanny vs Greg Smith
    W 9-5

    Game 5 @ Safeco Field
    Jarrod Washburn vs Gavin Floyd
    L 8-4

    Game 6 @ U.S. Cellular Field
    Erik Bedard vs Johnny Cueto
    W 2-1

    Game 7 @ U.S. Cellular Field
    Ryan Rowland-Smith vs Mark Buehrle
    L 4-1

[Buehrle was shutting us down until the top of the 9th with 1 out when I hit a triple to right center and scored on a wild pitch. Unfortunately it proved to be the only run in the game and Buehrle went 9 innings with 6 hits, 1 run, and 9 Ks. At least it wasn't a perfect game...]

I also expected that the White Sox would hand our asses to us but we once again dragged it out to the last game. Unfortunately we fell just shy of going to the World Series. Still, pretty good considering at the all-star break we were one of the worst teams in baseball.

The White Sox went on to defeat the Giants 4-1 to win the Series.<object width="425" height="344">

haha very nice video, with my batter I have yet to make the playoffs, we started off strong, but as the season went on my pitching sucked it up, and we were losing games 11-8

I'm in my 3rd season in the majors as nationals 1B. Its hard playin for them they suck lol. Mets goin crazy every year with crazy records. Think like 103-53 the last season. But I keep my numbers up at the plate so hopefully I can get a new winning home at end of my contract cuz I won't be signing back in washington

I'm in year 12 of RTTS as a starting pitcher. I came up with the A's organization, got traded to the Orioles, then the Mariners, and am now with the Indians. I'm just about maxed out on my pitching attributes and am the highest paid player in the MLB making over $18 mil/yr.

I have yet to make it the post season or an all star game. I'm playing on Allstar difficulty, and am bit suspicious of the AI. It seems every game I play, my team can't score runs. My ratings are in all in the high 90s, but yet I'm rarely pitching with the lead, or if I am the CPU almost always ties it up. One season I was 14-7, but am usually in the 10 to 13 wins range. I have simulated many games, and those are mostly dominate performances, but the ones I play are like what I described above.

I think this will be my first playoff season. The Indians are in first place in late June. We'll see...

i was a bit suspicious of the rtts ai too, then i became a free agent on my pitcher and took a contract with the red sox. now i have tons of run support. even now there are times when we are ahead a run and put someone on base and i get pulled from the game. i get a no decision but not an earned run from the guy i left on base, im thinking its just a bug. the problem though is that it is keeping me from winning a cy young every single year.

first year in boston and i did win a world series. so once my contract is up im gonna hop over to a NL team and win one there.

How do you guys pitch to right hand batters and left hand batters? Do you just pick your spots and do what the catcher calls? I'm aware of their hot spots but I'm giving up way too many hits and home runs to left handed batters. I'm a RHP btw.

I'm in my 2nd season with RTTS SS who's playing for the Tigers, just got a great 1st season being ROY and leading the Tigers to the playoffs as a Wild Card, losing there against the Rays 3-2, in the off-season the Tigers offered me a 7year/36$ million deal but i rejected it and sign only for 3 years, hopefully to get a lot of attention when my contract expires and sign for better teams.
I'm about to start my sophomore season and in Spring Traning i've done this:
                        <object height="344" width="425">

                        <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dXS7CprUKJc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="344" width="425"></object>
It was the 1st time that i made an inside the park home run and it was really cool to do it.

The baserunning controls for RTTS are really difficult to get a handle of. I play on the PS2, btw. Would've been nice to give us more options for controlling the baserunner than just using the L stick.

Drives me nuts when I try and advance my guy, only for the screen to rotate and then the direction that was forward 2 seconds ago is now reverse. I don't know how many times I've been caught between bases.

When you start moving, whatever direction you're pointing the stick in, keep it that way. That direction will stay 'advance' as long as you keep it held, even as he's rounding the bases.

                              Hi All!

I know this was a thread earlier, but I thought it could be revived because a lot has developed in the RTTS Wiki since the last time the old thread saw any activity.

Anyways, for those who aren't aware, several people who have been playing the Road to the Show feature are compiling the stats, pictures, and video or their created players on a personal Wikipedia page that presents it like a bio. It is very cool for those who want to immerse themselves in their players' "worlds" . The main RTTS Wiki site can be found here.

To get an idea of what you can do, feel free to take a look at one of my players, Howard Shaw, and his 'Road to the Show'. You can just click that link or the one in my signature.

First create an account and user name. Then you want to go to the main page and either use one of the provided templates, or copy and paste the code from someone else's page, and create a new page. For first-timers it can be tricky, so feel free to contact me with any questions or whatever.

Looking forward to see what creative Wiki's people can come up with!
