Yeah, I had a catcher that got traded to the Orioles, and after I accidentally saved over it (PS2), I made a SS, and he got traded there, too. I wonder if my new SP (on the Cardinals) and my new catcher (on the Red Sox) will get traded there, too.

Did you ever solve your velocity issues? It really baffles me that you aren't getting more speed. I just recently got my pitcher's velocity attribute up to 81 and am hitting 96 consistenly and occasionaly, 98. And there's still 19 points to max velocity.

Im working on a new pitcher with Zumaya's wind up to see if it makes a difference on velocity. But, yeah my velocity is maxed, but recently i hit 96mph.

what is your arm strength? Your velocity also has to do with your arm strength.

            Year 6:

            Personal -

For the previous few years, I've been relatively slump-free. However, to start off Year 6, I entered a slump that I never fully escaped from until the last month of the season. Although I managed a .314 average in the end, it was 30 points shy of the previous year's mark. I spent a good deal of time in the batting cages from June to September and didn't break .300 until 400 at-bats into the season. Had way more strikeouts (105) than ever before. Fortunately my high stats made it so that I could still hit quite a few home runs, even when I wasn't seeing the ball well.

I did, however, manage to hit for the cycle for the first time against the Rangers. I started with a triple then hit a double and a single. In my 4th at-bat, as you can see, I barely squeaked a homerun over the center field fence. I got the "RTTS Cycle" Trophy but didn't get any recognition in the game for this feat.

            Finishing Cycle with a HR

            Barely over the wall...

Partly due to my frustration in hitting, I started trying to steal every time I got on base. I got a lot better at diving back to the bag at 1st base on pickoff moves. I also realized that with a left-handed batter at the plate and me on 2nd, there was almost no way to get picked off...you could always see the shortstop moving to cover the base behind you. The stolen bases made my all-star selection a shoe-in and, as they piled up, I realized I could actually go for Rickey Henderson's record of 130. 3 days before the end of the season, I surpassed Rickey and broke the record. Although the announcers didn't say anything in the game (other than to chastise me for stealing 3rd with 2 outs), a nice surprise awaited me at the end of the game:

My hot streak in September allowed me to come back in the last week of the season and win my 3rd straight MVP award...this time beating Mike Moustakas, the same guy who destroyed me for Rookie of the Year in 2011. Oh well, at least you can still hang your hat on that Rookie of the Year, Mike. Bwaha!

            Team -

After 3 post-seasons and getting ousted from the first round every time, my main goal was to get to the world series. The Mariners this year ran away with the AL West and won 95 games...continuing a trend of getting better every year I've been on the club. Our offense didn't suffer quite as much as I had thought when Ichiro retired and we ended up 3rd in the majors in runs scored (behind the Red Sox & Mets). Our pitching was mediocre again but managed keep us in most games. It wasn't until 2 weeks before the playoffs that disaster struck. Our best pitcher, Fausto Carmona (3.35 ERA) had a season-ending injury and would miss the playoffs.

            Post Season -

Unlike the other 3 years where the Red Sox dismantled us in the playoffs, this year we drew the Yankees in the first round. Maybe a bit of hope?

Game 1 - after scoring 2 runs in the first, I had a good feeling...until the 4th inning when our "ace" gives up 9 runs. We never had a chance in this one and lost 12-3.

Game 2 - disaster comes again in the 3rd inning as we gave up 8 runs. My team fought valiently and had us within 2 runs (9-7) despite me going 0-3 against C.C. Sabathia. 2 outs in the 9th, 2 men on. Double ties it, Home run wins it. I come to the plate and choke horrendously by chasing a high fastball and popping it up. Game over.

Game 3 - oh how the tides, they turn. The Mariners came out crushing Joba Chamberlain, including a double and 2-run homerun from me. Going into the 7th we were up 12-4 and were firmly in control. I started thinking about Game 4. But the fates were not on our side. Top of the 9th and I come to bat...I almost cried. Where we had an 8 run lead 2 seconds ago, suddenly we're down by 2 runs with only 2 outs left. After yelling obscenely at the TV for a minute or two, I calmed down, focused and hit a solid double to the wall. Prince Fielder hits a single up the middle to score me and cut it to 1. Fast-forward to the end of the game. We had scored another run to tie it up at 14 but apparantly couldn't hold it and gave up a run in the bottom of the 9th to get swept by the Yankees.

What a wicked game this is...

            Nasty Box Score

            Spring Training, 2015:

It seems the Mariners are at the limit of their budget. We lost Josh Fields, our third baseman, but he hasn't hit well the past two years so it's not a huge loss.

It looks like we'll have a rookie with a okay bat and poor fielding replacing him. No other changes were made other than swapping some relief pitchers. With a minimum of losses, things still look good to win the AL West for the 5th straight year. Several big contracts are over at the end of the year (Prince Fielder in particular) so this might be our last chance to make a World Series push. Sadly, I'm already starting to consider joining one of the big 3 (Red Sox, Yankees, Mets) in a few years if I can't win with the Mariners.

WOW! i decided to sim the rest of the season with the orioles i turned out to be the best decision of my guys career. improved my contact and power for the rest of the season didnt worry about the goals. Of course orioles didnt make playoffs. Off-season have to resign with the orioles attribition or whatever cause my guy is under 6 years. we sign hanley ramirez yay! think were gonna be good. i sim 2 months in our record is 17-43, wow big dissopoinment.

I asked to be traded finally i get traded to the Red Sox!!!!! the best team in the league. I sim rest of season do some of the goals but i mess up and get benched at the end of the season bummer cause our team makes playoffs with 107 wins. pinch hit first game against oakland, basehit but we still lose 6-5.

sim to next performance since im on the bench sims next 3 games that we win thank goodness. 2nd round against rival yankees. game 1 pinch hit for me bottom 9th 2 outs man on 1st and 2nd. 9-7 yanks, first pitch swing and miss low. 2nd ball outside, 3rd strike outside corner. down to last pitch i'm guesiing fastball from riveria instead he comes with a cutter i wait back and adjust with a perfect swing Get outta here get outta here!!! walk off 3 run bomb over the green monster! we now lead the yanks 1-0. I'll keep u guys posted im gonna go ask to be put back in the starting linup.

whoa wehat a playoff run! we finish off the sweep of the yanks, move on to the world series! game 1 we lose a close one 5-3 to the cubbies. game 2 different story as our pitcher was dominant going the complete game us winning 2-0. However since i was still benched stupid gm i only got to pinch and i was choking big time. We ended up losing next 3 straight as the cubs high powered offense was just 2 much for us to handle. Lost in world series 4 games to 1. This however has been a great season and i can't wiat to renogotiate my contract with the red sox.!

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

                    Wow...what a difference a year makes...

Made it to the Bigs as the ace pitcher in 2011 with the Orioles. Forgot how many games we won, but won the wildcard right behind Red Sox. Defeated LA Angels 4-3 in first round. Defeated Red Sox 4-3 in the second round (unbelievable). Finally lost in World Series 3-4 to the Cubs.

My ace pitcher was mystic and almost godly in his rookie year in the Bigs. Started in 33 games, 22-7 record with 1.92 ERA. Had 7 complete games, 4 shutouts, allowed 13 HRs, and had 197 K's and 1.08 WHIP. Won the CY Young, Gold Glove, and was league leader in Walks allowed, IP, Complete games, shutouts, wins, ERA, and WHIP.

I thought I would continue that trend in my sophomore year. But boy was I wrong. Not only is my team sucking (which is actually normal) at 35-41, my pitcher is slumping as well.

                    16 games started, 7-4 record, 3.96 ERA, 14 HRs allowed, 1.21 WHIP, and only 76 K's.

I've allowed a minimum of at least one HR in the past 4-5 games, with two of them allowing 3 HRs. Strikes are also very hard to come by, always just around 4-5 K's per game. I don't know if it's because I'm using too many breaking pitches or the allure of the rookie sensation that went to the World Series is gone...jeez.

My catcher asked for a trade from the Padres in his 4th year in the bigs and was sent to Tampa Bay....not the best, but not the worst team that is for sure. Hit a walkoff 3 run bomb in his 2nd game with them. Of course first thing I had to do was ask for more playing time since it set him up as a bench player first...glad I noticed it before I simmed to next appearance.

Oh my **** I just saved a new RTTS over my pitcher on accident! what's funny is that I told my brother last night it's going to suck if I save over my pitcher, since I have three RTTS careers. I also told him that if I did save over my pitcher I'll stop playing this game. Jeez!

If it was a close game, I'm not surprised. I was at zero energy, shutout going, 2 outs in the 9th and gave up a walk and a hit and the manager still left me in. But we were up 6-0 at the time.

Bottom line, if you're near zero energy and give up a hit or walk, there's a chance you'll be pulled.

I also told him that if I did save over my pitcher I'll stop playing this game. Jeez!
I freaked out the other day when I thought I had done this. I have multiple saved games for each RTTS player but going back several weeks and redoing everything isn't fun.

I hope you had another save of your pitcher. That would be pretty depressing to lose him completely.

I've been taking a break from my shortstop the past few days to give my pitcher some love. He's in his second year with the Cubbies, now in AAA. I did pretty well in AA the previous year and I started off really good in AAA. But right before the all-star break (which I was almost on the verge of making), my guy imploded. His ERA has gone from 2.88 to 3.89 in mid-August. It's really frustrating.

But I've realized it's a different frustration from my position player. When things go bad for my shortstop, I know it's mostly my fault. I'm swinging at bad pitches or my timing is off. But when things go bad for my pitcher, I'm at a loss. The random number generator just decides that my changeup on the corner ends up in the middle of the plate. The batter who I set up perfectly and make a great pitch to, drills it over the wall for a homerun. But what I've realized is that, while it's extremely irritating, it's not unrealistic. So it's hard to complain too much.
