I have been able to start a franchise with that roster before though, and it loads fine before entering a franchise.

It would really suck if it was the roster file, because I put a lot of time into editing, and adding players to it.
I've never heard of rosters causing a problem like that, it really sounds like a mechanical issue to me, similar to what I had to send my PS3 in for last year.

Well, luckily it's not my ps2...but sadly it is my rosters. I tried to start a franchise with regular rosters, it worked perfectly. Then I tried it with my edited rosters, and it again didn't work. Not sure what I'm gonna do now...

That really sucks. I'd say start the edited rosters over, but only do a few players/teams at a time to test that it works.

I've made probably a couple of hundred roster edits, and my edited rosters load and work fine...

            Re: PS2 Impressions thread

Wanted to bring this thread back to see how many of you are still going strong with the PS2 version.

I won't lie, about a week ago I swore off this game. The things that were driving me nuts were the lack of responsiveness by the 1B and 3B on balls hit down the line, the bad targeting of outfielders on balls hit to the gap and it seemed that there was a CPU comeback code in the game as most times after I'd score 3-plus runs in an inning, the CPU would answer right back with a big inning of their own.

Well, after some soul searching and finding a set of sliders (I'm using a combo of Dr. Ursus and Psycho's sets), I've come back to the game and am having fun again. I've decided that if ocassional balls hit down the line aren't fielded (or attempted to be fielded) then really, there's not much to complain about.

When you get right down to it, the level of play on the field is outstanding, especially for a PS2 game.

I downloaded the latest rosters, made a few changes (added Manny back to the Dodgers' lineup) and started up a franchise with the Colorado Rockies.

I'm 1-2 so far but all 3 games have been fun to play. I had a nice pitchers' duel in the season opener, losing 2-1. Ubaldo Jimenez threw a complete-game 2-hitter, striking out 12 (nice!!!) in a 7-0 win for me and in Game 3, I fell 2-1 again.

Glad I decided to give this game one more shot. It's not perfect but it does a lot more things right than it does wrong.

I decided to give it another try yesterday, but I dont know what it is, I think I'm just burned out on The Show for the ps2 because I've been playing it since MLB 2004. Its a really good game but I just find myself becoming bored with it. MVP 07 is great but I gotta have a MLB fix. I own All-star baseball 2005 (never played it when it first came out) and I have been pretty intrigued by it. Its not that its better than The Show, its just that it has a freshness to it because I never really played it back when it came out. I think the franchise mode in ASB is better and the graphics are better, but the gameplay has its warts.

                Re: PS2 Impressions thread

It's been years since I played a game as much (and consistantly enjoyed as much) as The Show '09...

I am using Psycobulk's sliders and an early SCEA roster update and am now at the All Star break in season two if a Giants chise...

The trade and franchise logic kept me locked in, b/c all the moves made by the AI were quite realistic...

The game on the field has an occasional 'head scratcher' appear (last night my catcher ran up to a bunt and looked at it so long before pivking it up the runner was safe) but they are rare...

The batting / pitching interface keeps me coming back on a nearly daily basis since March release...and I think I'll get another month or so out of it...

Very pleased with the game and really impressed that they devs put this much effort into PS2...

I think I was feeling the same way when I took a break a couple of weeks ago. I played the game a ton since release and put in a lot of time with 08 on PSP and PS2. I think I just needed a break from the game engine and MVP NCAA was a nice change of pace.

After playing both, I think the Show is more balanced and plays a better game.

                      I love 09 for the PS2...

Sometimes I think that the 'comeback' code we all think we see is really us making poor and lazy decisions once we rally to a sizable lead. At least, it seems to me, that when I'm careful when leading I can tame the push the CPU tends to force.

I can't completely deny that its there, but I refuse to believe it can't be stopped.

One question...does anyone know why the other teams in my chise never sign players or make trades amongst themselves. Was there an option I didn't activate when I was enitializing my chise???

If so, can it be reversed?

Teams don't sign players during the season in this game, that's always been one of the major knocks on franchise mode in this game. Although I do think they will make some trades, how far along are you? If you're past the deadline I may be wrong, but I sort of remember the CPU making some trades in my 08 franchise.

Anyone notice this weird animation that happens to the catcher during the game where his chest protector will flash pre-pitch? Seems to happen a couple of times a game.

Mods, thanks for the re-sticky of the thread.

Yeah...it ALWAYS happens when I'm in a sticky situation on the mound...its as though its simulating my pitchers nerves or something stupid.

                            Oh well.

Yes they will sign players during the offseason free agency period. But that is the only time the CPU will sign players.
