Re: PS2 Impressions thread
This happens at least 5 times a game, its not a problem for me because I'm still winning the games but, its anoying when you could at least attempt to catch the ball and the CPU woun't give you the chance to do it not even when you hit the switch to closest fielder button. There are balls that IMO without a doubt could be fielded by an IF without even having to dive, but it defaults you to an outfielder. It doesn't happen very often so dont let it discourage anyone from buying the game. It does seem to me that assisted fielding with the "low" view helps out a lot with defense (especially when trying to pick up balls that are rolling around near the fence). I've actually went back to medium view though because I just have to have more of a broadcast look to my game. I still play with assisted fielding on though.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Have you tried pressing L2 before the pitcher throws the ball to queue up a steal? It works pretty easy for me. Also, if you want to still manually or with an individual runner...press the left-stick toward the base of the runner you want to steal with, and then press the icon of the base you want him to swipe.
edit...this is using the new base running control scheme...not the old classic style.Last edited by bsb13; 03-23-2009, 07:52 PM.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
Errors still aren't done very well IMO, but overall its better than last year. Throwing errors do happen in 09 unlike last year. I still haven't seen an error in the outfield though. I cant really speak about Sportscast manager because I haven't touched that yet.Originally posted by dan0808Hi I didn't have time to browse all the messages in this thread but I was wondering if someone could answer these questions I had about the ps2 version of the game.
In the 08 ps2 version no matter where I put the error slider there was hardly ever any errors ever committed in the field. I was wondering if the 09 version fixed that. Are there more errors when you are playing now? If there are are there a good variety of errors like errors where a ground single to center is bobbled by the center fielder allowing the runner(s) to advance an extra base? And are errors like these scored correctly?
Is the sportscast manager quick game feature still in the game? If so does it work reasonably well in the 09 version? I found thee 08 version was loaded with problems like incorrect scoring and just plain messing up like sometimes not giving a team 3 outs!
Overall do you think the 09 version is worth it if you already own the 08 version? I have to say if they just fixed the no errors problem I might just pick it up!
thanks...
Personally I think its worth the upgrade just because of the legend mode alone. There is also some nice franchise upgrades like 40 man rosters, rule 5 draft, waivers, etc.Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
I've got both error sliders at default and have seen a pretty wide variety...
Bobbled balls by the shortstop, thowing errors (best one was my catcher trying to pick off a runner on 3rd who was thinking of trying to advance on a slightly passed ball and threw it into left field)...
Even saw on by an LF who misplayed a ball and it was scored a double with an error that put the batter at third...
Big improvement over previous editions...Comment

An outfield error? That is really nice to hear. Were these errors by the user? And do you mind telling me what difficulty you were playing on?I've got both error sliders at default and have seen a pretty wide variety...

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
I play on veteran (becuase I'm such a lousy hitter) and increased the hitting sliders for the CPU to compensate for the fact that it's much easier to pitch (classic) on that level...
I use auto fielding and throwing along with assisted base running, because I'm nowhere near as good with the controller on this game as most other sports titles...Comment

Re: PS2 Impressions thread
gotta say, respect to Sony for the PS2 version of The Show. my best friend is stranded on the 360 but salvaged his baseball gaming season with his seldom-used PS2. compared it to my PS3 version, and outside of the obvious graphical differences, the two games are nearly one and the same. it was just as fun playing it on the PS2. anybody who's on the fence about this, or more commonly stuck with a 360, consider this route (or an also amazing PSP version) !Comment

Although (unless I'm just stupid and just can't find it, which is highly possible) there is no Batting Practice mode on the PS2, correct?Sports are good.
