Exactly what I was thinking, even though I know about this doesn't mean I have to abuse it.

Fair, realism > Unfair advantage, unrealistic
    at least for me

I know people would like for it to be fixed, as would I, but unless it's being used against you it shouldn't matter. I will admit that I do not play online so if people were to abuse it online I would not know about it. I don't think we've heard any problems about the CPU using this strategy...

What exactly gets fixed if I don't play that way? All this time when I was pitching well I patted myself on the back for setting up hitters, painting corners, changing speeds to throw off hitters etc. Is that what was happening or is something else going on? There are only two possibilities:

      1. There is a bug which makes position players pitch well.

      2. The CPU acts as a "God" and dictates the flow of the game no matter what you do.

If the answer is #1 then I can live with that and I'll stop playing that way. I'm ok with establishing certain rules. However, I brought this to everyones attention hoping to get some help in testing this on different levels and see what exactly is going on here.

Alot of people say this game plays great out of the box (meaning veteran level.) That to me is now

Ahh, now I see what you were getting at. I didn't really get that from the first couple pages, but I guess it just had to be pointed out in black and white to me.

Maybe Ortiz has pine tar or something hidden in his armbands or maybe their so soaken wet he gets the moisture off 'em and has a "hidden" spitball.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

so by thinking that the Cpu acts as a God...does this mean you think this is pre-scripted somehow in the code??

would be interesting to see someone like jermaine dye or vladdy guerrero throwing since they have cannon arms.

i wont' try it myself. this actually is disappointing to here these pitchers could throw that well.

Was it a postseason game? If it was, maybe the Cubs were just trying their hardest to blow it...

My only suggestion would be to try it once or twice more and see if you have anywhere near the same success... I remember when Wade Boggs came in and pitched, i was prettyy young but if I remember correctly he pitched decent given he wasn't an MLB Pitcher. Maybe this is a 1/100000000 fluke kind of game?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that Quentin was thrown about 82 MPH with his fastball, 88MPH on his change up. Somehow I can't see a position player hitting 88 MPH on a changeup. Next I will try Dye for his great arm, and then Jerry Owens for his noodle arm.

Kinda like the Madden folks putting kickers in as QB's who end up playing like Tom Brady......

Interested to see where this goes....

If David Ortiz can throw a one-hit gem on Veteran with a crap fastball and changeup, then a lot of our assumptions about this game are called into question.

The assumption that the player ratings matter...

The assumption that the choices we make in how we pitch matter...

                          I am concerned.

I actually pitched David Delluchi by accident in 08. I was getting killed in an interleague game and pinch hit him and then just for the heck of it tried to see if I could leave him in the game. He ended up giving up a single and pitching a scoreless inning to end the game. It didn't show record any stats for him in the season stats screens.

How about we stick to playing the game the way it's meant to be played. Try doing the same bs on HOF or Legend and then post the results.

                                Don't be....

It's not a question of the way the rest of the game is coded...but more that the position players are NOT coded to pitch.
There are no other factors on the position players other than his two pitches.
I doubt they took the time to actually code anything else into this other than his two pitches.

If you want to do something like this....what can anyone say?
                                It's silly IMO.
If they went and patched the game to give position players zero or near zero ratings for all the pitch attributes..much like pitchers have for their batting attributes(they are coded into the game because pitchers will likely come to the plate!).....that would make you feel better?
I don't think the devs thought anyone would even bother with this.
Thanks for giving them more work for next year...covering an exploit!

                                Gotta love the internet!
