    Re: Studs and Duds

I've faced Zito twice, and he's owned me both times. 16 IP, 2 runs. The first time I faced him, he 1-hit me through 8 innings. Last night, we were 1-1 into the 9th, they brought in a reliever, and I touched him up for 7 runs, but despite putting up 7 hits through 8 IP on Zito, I couldn't hit anything hard. I think I had 1 double, and a bunch of seeing eye, weak singles.

His fastball tops out in the low 80s, but for some reason, I just can't seem to get anything going off him. I can't figure it out.

      Re: Studs and Duds

So far in my new Jays/Braves franchise, a week in these would have to be a few of my early choices so far.(BTW i simmed the first 2 seasons and made some moves for both teams)

      Jays:

Duds: Roy Halladay- Opening day he went 2 innings after getting hurt, so i had to use 4 pitchers to finish off that game and that completley killed my bullpen for days to come, i went on a 0-4 loosing skid to start the season. Not really his fault, but hes a dud so far in my books lol as he costed me some games. Not a good start after i just resigned him for a huge 5 year contract.

Dud: Adam Lind - Im batting him in the 2 hole and hes got a terrible .182 average. Im gonna keep him in there for a few more games but wont mind moving him down in the order if he doesnt produce more.

Studs - Shawn Marcum - Went the complete game for me that stopped my 4 game loosing skid and got me my first win of the season. He also gave my bullpen a much needed rest. Gave up 2 runs and struck out maybe 5-6 dont remember, was a solid performace none the less and one i really needed from my starting pitching.

Stud - Alex Rios - Is batting .385 out of the leadoff spot and has around 4-5 stolen bases already. Has 1 homer and i am batting him in front of Ortiz as Wells gets a day off today. Hes got good speed and hes a pretty solid hitter, so i can be flexible and move him to and from the leadoff spot or the 3 spot if i need to.

Have to add Ronnie Cedeno to the Studs list. Hes hitting .667 as a backup infielder, and jus cranked a 2 run homer that was taken by the wind in Texas, but if he keeps it up he might be starting soon. Oh he is also on a 6 game hitting streak now.

      Braves
Dud - Kotchman - Has a low batting average and hardly any RBI's and is going to start platooning in either LF or RF with Pat Burrell who just had a bit pinch hit home run the last game i played to tie it and give Tim Hudson the no decision, he also added a hit so he will be playing more often for a bit.

Stud - Lance Berkman - He has been a monster for me so far, he had a 2 2-run homerun game in i think the 4th game of the season, has made a few great diving stabs at first to save runs and he just added a walk off homer in the bottom of the 10th in my last game. So far hes been the best player on either the Braves or the Jays.

        Re: Studs and Duds

        Playing as NYY:

Stud: Jorge Posada. Leading the AL in hitting batting over .400, 5 HR, 17 RBI and has thrown out a few guys stealing too.
Honorable Mention: Robinson Cano. Batting around .350, 2 homers and a lot of clutch hits. Currently batting 2nd w/Jeter on DL.

Dud: Mariano Rivera (AKA Hideki Irabu in disguise). He's 1-3 with 4 blown saves. Luckilly his win came in the 10th inning. He gives up bomb after bomb in this game. Seems a lot of us are having closer issues.
Not-So Honorable Mention: Alex Roidriguez. Barely hitting over .200, 1 HR and only 6 RBI. Cano must be stealing all his RBI's.

Send him packing. Try this....make a trade with Seattle for Beltre. He is a great defensive 3rd baseman and periodically can hit for power....but his defense, esp his arm strength and accuracy are without question. This will also mirror, what IMO, is going to happen eventually anyway. Beltre has spoken publicly on more than one occasion, that he does not want to spend anytime on a team that has rebuilding in its immediate future. Seattle does / is. He owns a home in LA....and he has stated that he would have no problem returning to the Dodgers. Who does LA have that might be a "quick fix" type guy for the Mariners? They need a 1B that will have less than 200+ Ks by season end.....they need bullpen help as well...something(s) to think about.....

              26-15 with Giants
              Studs
              1. Tim Lincecum- 5-0 2.21 ERA and 51 K's nearly unhittable when I'm pitching with him
              2. Barry Zito 3-1 3.26 ERA 34 K's for some reason he is *** **** nasty in this game now only if he was this good in real life
              Duds
              1. Aaron Rowand third game of the season he tears his MCL and he is out for 6+ months.
              2. Jonathon Sanchez 0-3 6.54 ERA 42 K's for some reason I can't pitch with him just too much movement on his pitches.

I don't have a stud really, but Cliff Lee is awful for me.

If a runner gets on, it get ugly, because I can't throw from Lee's stretch. It's like in hyperspeed, or something.

Yeah, I find the same thing with some pitchers. I've only played with the Cubs, so I only know those pitchers, but Smardzija (or however it's spelled), Gaudin, and Gregg for example have really quick stretch deliveries. So hitting the sweet spot on the release is damn near impossible with any consistency. So you just have to hope, although I have gotten better at using them. I'd like the stretch delivery to be slowed down, or have the option to slow it down, as I'd rather be able to control these guys and let the quality of the pitch be determined by the pitcher's ratings, and my ability to hit the perfect release rather than flailing with the release point because of a hyperspeed stretch mechanic for certain pitchers.

                      Studs:
                      Matt Capps ERA-0.00
Jorge Cantu-Leading the league in doubles, .400+ avg, close to .500 OBP.
JJ Hardy-A few games ago he would have been on the duds pile but after his last 4-4 game with a double and 2 RBIs AND a walk hes been on fire.

                      Duds-
Dan Uggla-hitting .158 with one HR although this is down to the computers unwillingness to let me win rather than Dan Ugglas or my fault.
Any pitcher that I have pitching when I've got the lead will eventually get absoloutely rocked with back to back HRs.

I've played Ryan Braun several times, and I swear that every time he hits the ball he tatoos it. Even if it's an out, that guy just puts a charge in the ball. Scary power.

Through the end of April in a Rangers dynasty.

                              Studs:
                              Nelson Cruz - .388 3 HR 16 RBI 6 doubles
                              Hank Blalock - .310 4 HR 15 RBI
                              Adam Dunn - .296 6 HR 18 RBI
C.J. Wilson - 2-1 2.00 ERA - Been pretty much the only consistent reliever in my pen.

                              Duds:
                              Ian Kinsler - .235 1 HR 5 RBI
                              Chris Davis - .197 2 HR 9 RBI
                              Josh Hamilton - sort of a dud. .. .237 4 HR 14 RBI
Frank Francisco - 1-1 9.00 ERA Lost his job as closer due to complete ineffectiveness.

Offense in general has been kind of colder than expected.
