Studs and Duds

As the franchises get rolling, I thought it would be an interesting topic for discussion if we put our most and least reliable players in the thread and broke them down.

So far, I'm 3-2, and I had a super-stud performance out of Jason Schmidt. I had to burn my bullpen after only one of my first four guys made it to the 6th inning. I was really needing a quality start, and the Bulldog delivered. He went the distance on 111 pitches, scattering 8 hits, striking out 8, and walking none. That was the first game I'd given up no walks at all, and his control was masterful: he owned the outside corner with the changeup, and was able to drop the bender in there for some key outs. So far, stud.

My dud thus far has been Orlando Hudson. He's made some very nice plays in the field, but in the #2 hole I'm not getting solid production at the top of the order. Too many strikouts, difficulty moving runners, etc. So far, half dud.

What are your stories?

Ryan Zimmerman had a bad first year for me. Batted .262 slugged .333. OPS around .715.

However, I was able to resign him for 7 mil a year

As far as duds go, there have been none bigger for me than Javier Vazquez. Ugh, I had to trade him after he racked up an 0-3 record and an 8.50 ERA through his first three starts. I just couldn't take it anymore. And it's not like all my starters have been getting rocked. The rest of the rotation has a combined ERA around 3.80.

Speaking of the rest of the rotation, Glavine has been fantastic as my #5 starter. 1-1, 2.75 ERA through three starts. Total stud, even at 40+ years old.

Stud- Matt Kemp. Dude is always good for multiple hit games


Dud- Casey Blake. His batting average is in the low .100's. When his name is called, I get nervous and my heart rate increases because I know he's going to end my rally. I think it's mental now and I'm going to have to sit him down.

That's so funny about Blake. He's been clutch for me in the first few games. He won my last game with a huge RBI double. He's average in the field--he's missed some plays for me, but he's made the routine ones and the occasional difficult play.

That's funny. Seriously, I wanted to edit him and shave his beard if possible. Anything to try and pull him out of his slump!

Stud- Matt Kemp, dude is crazy for me, .450 avg with a couple dingers.

Bust/Fail- Jonathan Broxton, dude can't save.

I can vouch for Glavine as he's been surprisingly effective for me as well...even threw a shutout with him. Vazquez has been decent but Jurrjens is horrible. Maybe it's just me but I can't throw his slider/slurve without having it either hit the middle of the plate or be 6 inches off the zone.

My dud is Francoeur so far... but that's not really surprising.

Studs: Holliday. Thankfully I traded for him and he's worth the hefty price tag I had to give up.

Duds: Morneau - Dude is struggling. KOs, hitting into double plays. I'm only at my 3rd series, so it's still early to tell.

Duds- Joe Saunders(gets rocked every game) Kendry Morales, thinking of trading him and prospect for veteran 1B, any suggestions, I'm thinking of Konerko, Helton or Conor Jackson

Man, in that lineup, Helton would be a huge addition. Plus defense and a great bat. Even if his power numbers are only 12-15 HR, he'll get lots of pitches to hit just because there are so many other guys to worry about.

I played a few games with the A's vs. the Angels, and man, Vlad is one scary dude. He will chase and you can get him out, but whenever he makes contact it sounds like a gun went off and feels like the ball could travel a mile. They really nailed his persona in this game.

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking of sending them Morales, GMJ and a mid prospect for Helton, maybe Alan Embree or Manny Corpas and low prospect. I tested it out and they would accept it.

Tigers Franchise, All-Star default sliders.
I'm 4-6 out of the gate, just dropped two straight to Chicago.

Verlander's 2nd start, injured arm, 15 day DL out for 2-3 weeks.

Studs

Ordonez-Absolute beast. Hitting around .400 with 3 hr, 8 rbi, 3 doubles, and his 10 runs scored leads league.
Granderson-4 hr, 8 rbi, 1 sb

Duds
Polanco-I want to kill this guy. Hitting about .230 and has FIVE errors in the field.
Zumaya-Flat out gas can. ERA over 10.00

Up & Down
M Cab-only 2 homers and 4 rbi, hitting .282.
Guillen-2 homers, 6 rbi, i play him at ss and hope to never see Adam Everett on a ball field again.

Guys who have KILLED me so far.

Rios-2 homers in four game series.
Blalock-2 homers in three game series. I don't know if I even got him out. Beaned him in the finale. Felt better.
Thome-2 homers in three game series.
Bartolo Colon two-hit me. Embarrassing display.
