One of the older games that I used to love to play was Sports Talk Baseball on the Sega Genesis. I thought that game was the greatest thing ever mostly because it was the first game I had with play by play (maybe the first ever?? don't remember).

All right Jibby! You pass my 66 year old Show buddy.

Now here's a game HE used to play as a kid. His father took milk bottle caps and saved them. Made a baseball diamond out of cardboard, etc., systematically wrote things like SINGLE, DOUBLE, STRIKE, etc., etc., etc. on all the bottle caps and would play against his father when he was a kid. They'd draw the bottle caps and move a figurine around the bases until there were three outs, even kept a scorecard of their games.

He still has this game in a shoe box at his house. It's amazing how his father figured it out so that it would be statistically accurate.

Wow ... you guys are the only 60somethings I've ever heard of liking video games. That's awesome. I'm sure I'll still be playing games well into my retirement. Here's looking forward to MLB 40.

At 60, left field to the dugout was too far to run so many times a game.

As great as the show is, I feel like sports game now just aren't as fun as they used. It could just be cause I'm not a kid anymore (well I am compared to some of you, at 21, haha ), but the fun factor has been sacrificed for realism. I still love the show though..

But on the topic of favorite old baseball games, I gotta go with Ken Griffey Jr. on SNES. Winning run was good too.

Me too. I really liked it and played the heck out of it. I can still remember the names of half of the guys on my Boston lineup! Bahr , Jung, Powesk, Teylan, Wise... God I am a dork.

I've been playing baseball games since the late 80s/early 90s and I am in full agreement. With a little slider tweaking, this game is pure brilliance on a blu-ray disc. Absolutely incredible.

Before the show 08, the last baseball game I played was on the Sega Genesis. I don't recall the name, but what I remember was the batter's view was really low to the ground, and all you saw were his legs. It was supposed to give you the sense that YOU were that hitter.

Oh yeah, and before that, it was an MLB game for the Sega Gamegear.

I'm 41, so the names escape me. The Show is simply hands down the BEST video game of baseball I've ever played!

Re: All you young guys should consider yourselves very, very lucky

I'm 30. The first baseball game I can remember playing was a generic baseball game on the Atari 2600. Once I got an NES, I remember the game MLB, which had real major leaguers but no names, just numbers. I had that and Bases Loaded. I loved bases loaded. I still remember the monster 3-4 hitters named Paste and Bay that hit for the best team. Those two guys were phenominal.

On the super NES, I had several games, but Ken Griffey JR was the best. First game that I can remember having real stadiums. Also had real players (with fake names).

I've owned a baseball game every single year since the PS came out. Triple Play series, which always sucked. Eventually I owned High Heat some years, All Star Baseball... whatever was the best game for the PS then the PS2.

Being a 360 owner, I still get the 2k series, but not this year. This year will be the first year I can remember that I won't have a console baseball game. Instead, I'm just buying the Show for my PSP (which I'm still waiting to be delivered).

For almost 15 years, most games other than the HH series have suffered from the flaw of the old Triple Play series - unrealistic hitting stats and poor hit variety (singles and HRs only) and way too many HRs. Even last year, the Show on the PSP was just ridiculous. I'm hoping when I get it, the Show for the PSP this year is different like everyone is saying the PS3 version is.

To this day the only game on which I played an entire 162 game season.
