Isn't World Series '95 the game were you could do cart wheels and stuff like that while you rounded the bases after a homerun? I remember it took FOREVER for the runner to round the bases. It almost made me dread hitting a homerun.

Yep it was CHEESE Factory and it cost around $80 retail. Sega was really trying to push the envelope with that game.

Yeah, the game itself was fine, but cartwheels around the basepaths was CHEESE factory. Thats what I meant.

I agree with the original OP. It's been something I've been noticing for the last couple of years, mainly with MMORPGs. 5-10 years ago, I'd play any new one that came out and couldn't get enough. And I think it was the same with a lot of people who played that genre. These days, every new release seems to hold people's attention for a far shorter time, and there's more critical voices than people praising the game(s). As a rule of thumb, games are getting better, so why is that? I feel as though the gaming community's expectations are just so high these days that most games are bound disappoint even though they're far superior to games that are even only a handful of years old. I think, overall, it just makes it harder to enjoy games for what they are.

                  Re: Simpler days of gaming

You have been buying your cat the same cat food for years. She likes it, she always eats it and the company that produces it works on making the can look a whole lot nicer and improving the ingredients over the years. Hell, the can itself has become better-- easier to open, less dangerous, better sealing, etc. Part of the "innovation" is driven by the need to increase profit, so the cat food company starts by laying off workers and, since that alone is not enough, they seek ingredients that are as good but cheaper. When they find the cheaper ingredients they channel some of the new profit into developing a better logo, hire a really smart ad person and produce some really fine commercials and print ads. When the returns on the ads do not measure up to the anticipated returns, they revisit the payroll and the ingredients and again layoff workers and cheapen the ingredients. They measure the profit against inflation and the competitors and know that growth has been minimal but promising.
As a well-versed (but well-trained) cat feeder you both know and accept this but every now and then you could swear that your cat is either less interested in the food (but it's the same food, only better!), becoming overweight or sick, or looking at you funny. Now maybe you are just projecting, after all it is just a cat, or maybe you have a guilty conscience or maybe just maybe she knows.
Of course, you don't know any of this because you can't decipher her lowly meows. You probably will never know, unless one day you go on vacation, forget to stock up on food and have someone check in on the cat who, it just so happens, also has a cat and feeds her cat better food.

Two things changed... 1)You (we) are older now, "supposedly" men. 2) Video games were relatively new a few years ago. Now it's kinda been there done that. Actually three things..3) What the cat guy said

I just don't see how anyone can say there's ever been a more realistic game, on the field, than The Show 09.

I have wasted more time on that game and in those leagues than anything on the planet... which says something considering I build the rosters for OOTP. Might have to fire it up tonight.

I never played it. I was a little late to arrive at the PC party. I remember seeing it on the store shelves and hating that my Amstrad PC couldn't handle it. Earl Weaver was all I had, which was a lot.
