Re: I cannot stop playing this video game.

7 months, and 4 seasons later, I'm still going strong. I'd like to win the World Series before next year's game drops.

I believe that I may have a team capable of that this year.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: I cannot stop playing this video game.

I have Multiple Sclerosis and at times I get such bad concentration problems where I can't read a book or follow a movie or much on TV, which often comes with other issues I won't mention, but can keep me from even sleeping. So when this happens I can pop in this game and lose myself in my A's franchise and focus on the game and not worry about what is going on with my health. That is how good the game is for me.

Re: I cannot stop playing this video game.

I played MLB 09 The Show religiously from the day I got it, 'til October 7 (that's the last date I had a save made on). Then, I bought NBA 2K10. I've played it religiously for the past week or two, thinking I wouldn't touch "The Show" again until next year's came out.

So, last night I say, well let me pop in The Show and play a Yankees vs Phillies game. Since then, I have started a new franchise (I deleted my old one ), I've played 10 games in my franchise, and I haven't even thought about playing NBA 2K10.

And in response to that guy up there that said something about how he tried to just finish out his AAA pitcher career and then go to bed at a reasonable hour, I'm the same way. Anytime I get started back on my RTTS career, I say "Okay, I'll play out this one series, and get some sleep."
Next thing I know, it's 4 A.M., and I've played nearly a months worth of games. haha. I think it's time for someone of higher power to officially label this game "Greatest Sports Game EVER!".

I just saw a new cutscene today. I'm the M's playing against the Nats. I hit a triple and than a cutscene pops up showing Zimmerman trying to catch my player off the bag at 3rd.The announcer mentioned it was the old hidden ball trick. My player got back before the tag.

No sports game comes close to the show when it comes to the "little things".

i have to agree with the majority. i live, breathe, sleep football, however EA's monopoly on that complete garbage they call ncaa football / madden forced me into trying different sports titles. this game challenges me like no other, there is always some part of my virtual baseball game that i must work on forcing me down the road to perfection. im always finding new things that changes my view of this game and about baseball in general.

as an example, i have re found guess pitch. this was a game feature i never really fully understood and always viewed it as a crutch to help those who are struggling with hitting. recently i went back to play around with it and completely realized that it is more then what i originally thought. for the first time i really feel like i can put pressure on the opposing pitcher. as a result im using alot more strategy. i play with gp on with no feedback and it has changed the game yet again for me.

DTX - I definitely feel you on the trading games in within 3 or 4 months. I was all stoked for NBA 2k10 to come out and 6 days after it was released it was back on a shelf at gamestop and out of my sight. One of the biggest things now with sports games is you almost wait around to be like 'well maybe this is the year it finally doesn't suck' or 'i'll buy it when the patch comes out' it's getting ridiculous. I literally have no complaints about the show. I loved playing baseball growing up, but hated baseball games until I tried this one. It's absolutely incredible and I can't imagine trading it in til the show 10 comes out, I am completely hooked. I don't believe I've enjoyed a sports game this much since I was 5 playing tecmo super bowl.

I agree with the majority here, this is the only game I am playing right now. The Show 08 lasted me an entire development cycle and it looks like 09 will as well. I can't say that about any other sports game. 09's pitcher/batter interface could probably keep me going forever though, I may not need '10'. Although I will probably just pick it up to support the SCEA team.

Re: I cannot stop playing this video game.

It's all those little accents and attention to detail that the designers put in the game that just make it stand above all other sports games. You can feel the developers passion for baseball in this game when you play it and become immersed in its gameplay....This is something that I just dont feel with other sports games.

With that said, I think 2010 could definitely add improvements....I think the core gameplay and engine is almost as solid as you can get for baseball so this could be the year they just completely polish the sh*t out of this game and make it the most incredible sports sim/video game ever created.

                          They can start by:
                          - adding even more variety in the fielding animations. A little more variety in the diving sliding and rolling outfield stabs that happen every so often. The short hop that locks up an infielder and skims off his glove....Some more stuff like that

                          - tightening the relationship between fielding animations and player's abilities. Ie, some of the flashier, more graceful infield plays should be better tied into the better rated infielders. I dont like seeing backup 2nd basemens making that graceful scoop and throw on the run all the time. Or that sliding grab and throw from one knee. These are highlight plays that should happen farther and fewer in between and only more frequently by the elite fielders in the game

-a wider variety of close tag plays and animations at the bases. This is one of the most exciting aspects of baseball, the close tag play at a base and almost all baseball games neglect really developing this area of the game. While MLB is better then other games at it, they still dont capture enough variety in it and the players kind of morph into/thru each other on the plays making it completely unrealistic. Give us more excitement, tension, have some sweeping tags, have the umpire point at the tag and then pause and punch him out...or have him delay and do a double safe guesture with excitement...there is so much variety that can be added here

-more bobbles and booted short hops, and diving misses in the outfield. Basically some more variety in miscues

-Speaking of miscues, players should make some mental mistakes. In this game and in sports games in general, the AI never really makes mental errors and its such a big part of sports. Especially when a team is a bit intimidated in the playoffs. Good example is the Yankees this year. Both Minnesota and LA played terrible fundamental baseball in the field and on the base paths because they were intimidated by their opponent.

-The crowds are good but they could still be much more dynamic and realistic, especially during the post season. They should be going absolutely nuts and more intelligently react to almost every pitch and not die down so quickly...They should be loud almost throughout the entire game

-Give us more management styles of play for each team. Manager Tendencies and profiles that differ between the teams. So playing different teams results in slightly different decisions by different managers

-Add some old time classic parks, Ebbets, Polo Grounds, Forbes Field, etc

-I dont think all the teams have all their classic uniforms available. Add more (ie The Phillies Light Blue road unis of the early 80's ) ...The Montreal Expos!! Etc.

-I just cant stand Steve Vaskergiam (sp?) anymore....he's so west coast and dull. I'd love to have some better announcing like John Miller, Joe Morgan, or Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, or even Vin Scully, etc ... Anyone but him or that other dud from High Heat, forgot his name. Too many years with these announcers is getting a bit old.

-Show us Season Stats pop ups during the playoffs instead of playoff stats that havent yet been accumulated. Or show us both. Its kind of silly to see a Pitchers preview during game 1 of the post season and there's nothing but zeros on the presentation pop up for him and the batters

-Catchers should always take their masks off when fielding pop ups or chasing wild balls...this is just something small that irks me

-variety of collisions with the wall in the outfield on running catches would add excitement and realism

These are some of my main areas of improvement on an otherwise wonderful game

Right there with you. Already trading in Madden 10, but I'm keeping the show until next years installment. Although I don't play as much as I used to I still get in about 4 games a week (as opposed to like 12 in previous months).

This game has really spoiled me because now I expect other sports games to have "The Show" quality.

Add me to the list of those who bought a PS3 in order to play this game. And I don't regret a minute of it.

And I have no plans on wasting HD space on any other games. It will be '09 til '10 comes out, and even if something dreadful happens, and '10 is a step back, I will still have the best console baseball game I have ever played as a fall back.

Nice to have that security blanket as opposed to wishing and hoping for another year of my 360's baseball game to just not suck quite as much as the year before.
