This, but I like to play the last game of each series instead. The announcers will talk about how players have been doing in the series ("He's got two homerun in this series" or "He's only 1 for 10 in this series") which keeps me a bit more immersed.

Can't skip Opening Day though, so I'll have to play 2 games in the first series

I just wish there was a way I could play an equal amount with each starter..but I want to play in every stadium..Oh well.

That's a great idea, I calculated the starters and it would be....

        #1=13
        #2=10
        #3=11
        #4=10
        #5=9
        for a total of 53 games...totally manageable.

Well 81 games is still a long time...If you do 2 a day, thats almost 3 months, not including playoffs...

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years

For me it has a lot to do with which team I'm franchising.
As a Mariners fan, I predominantly go with them for just about everything.
What's not to like? An exciting young team with a big hill to climb.
A couple dominating forces in Felix and Ichiro to keep things exciting when chasing Cy Youngs and Batting Titles.
But ultimately a team like this forces you to rebuild and that's half the fun as far as I'm concerned.
It's called franchise mode, not "lead the Yanks/Sox/Phillies to 4 straight World Series" mode.

When you use a lower-tier team for franchise it is harder to get away with simulating since your odds of winning are much lower.
I still like to simulate though because A) It saves time/speeds things up, and B) It forces you to be more engaged with managerial strategy.
The cool thing about contributing to the stats via playing is that it adds a human edge to what would otherwise just be a pure numbers game.
Playing the game brings out the "IT" factor. Players and teams can have break out years and surpass their predicted performance parameters. Underdogs can still win because they have "heart" (and luck) and this is enough to outperform a better team.
It's still nice to have a good set of sliders though so you can't put up .800 batting averages and the like.

I'm really excited to begin Mariners '11 Franchise next month.
OSFM roster is an integral part of it. Prospects are so important.
I'm planning to introduce Ackley is June. Same with Pineda. I couldn't fathom starting a franchise without them in the organization.
I've been practicing Analog controls and running tests to prepare for it.
The trading/offseason logic bugs appear to still be there.
So hopefully that get's patched around the same time OSFM is realeased.
              Take one pass it on

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years

I hate simming, because the computer messes up my team so much. They used a horrible lineup, but mainly they ruin my pitching staff. They will use the starter until his enery bar is 0 so for the next start, he is only 3/4 rested. And they will take a set up man like Zumaya and use him for 2-3 innings so I won't be able to pitch him for the next week.

I wish I could sim more games, but my team ends up destroyed for the next few games. I hate it.

I usually play a game per series. i love playing multiple seasons and managing a team that way. This way I can play many seasons and play a few games too. I also sometime only play a game per week on the schedule

                    I'm a month into the season. I played probably 20 of 26

Re: Strategy for completing multiple franchise years

I chose 1 pitcher on the A's staff (Gio Gonzalez) and I pitch and bat in everyone of his games. When he comes out I sim the pitching and only bat. I also play another pitchers game but only do the batting. So I play 2 out of every 5 games. And I rotate which games I only do batting in so I'm not always batting in games for the same pitcher. Right now I'm about 30 games into the season and this method seems to work pretty well so far.

I play a game a series but sometimes I will alternate with just pitching or just batting, this way you can get through a lot of games and still enjoy both sides of the game.

                          82 game season.
Play 2 games out of every series.
So am playing more games than i am simming.
Gives you about 54 total excluding playoffs.

Every year, I pick a team that has two starting pitchers that I like and I play every one of their starts. Last year, I was the Twins and I played as Liriano and Baker. This year, I play as Colorado and I play every Ubaldo and Chacin start, simming the other three games each time through.

I thought about doing 1 game per series, but it's just too much. I'm going to go with play 1, sim 5.
