Re: Pitching motions need work
Jim stated there's over 140 generic stances along with the personalized stances in the database as well so that made me extremely happy.
Also, I believe (don't quote me) Russell said that the hidden stances was a bug in the system so I'm assuming that bug was found and squashed.

Re: Pitching motions need work
That could be a very, very good possibility.
But I'm thinking it could be done. I think it could very well be done because I actually see it done in the baseball game, "Professional Baseball Spirits 6".
(Note: I Love "The Show." It is THE reason why I got back into gaming. Not trying to start any flame war, just point out that it can be done in video games with fluid motion. And because this game has the best example of what I'm trying to convey, I chose to mention this game. Nothing more). Links below.
Could they somehow speed up the pitching motion in "The Show," something along the use of a "fast forward" programming technique to overcome the "slow" pitching in "The Show"? Or would they simply have to reanimate the pitcher's sequence.
What I see as the strong points in Professional Baseball Spirits 6 is that both the "arm motion" and "leg kicks" seems to actually have a purpose in the following videos. It looks as if the arm is actually throwing with power, strength, and high velocity. The "leg kick" looks like it has purpose of actually building up power behind the pitch. Also notice the strong "follow through." I hope "The Show" can implement something like this. It'll make the game that much better.
Hopefully bringing up these video are okay.
-@0:20 - the pitching motion starts at around the @0:20 mark. This part of the video shows the pitcher from the "front" view.
-@8:00 - go to around the @8:00 mark. This part of the video shows the pitcher from the "back" view.
I suspect video game, but can someone tell me if the following is "video game footage" or "real baseball footage"?
Hopefully "The Show" can implement "purpose" into their pitching motion in future installments.Last edited by strawberryshortcake; 02-02-2010, 02:42 AM.Comment

Re: Pitching motions need work
wow that game looks great. It does a lot of things well (like pitch releases and varied swing types). that stadium looks nice too, almost like a poor Japanese man's Camden Yards.
edit: after further 'analysis' it really doesnt look much like Camden, other than the warehouse in the background. but in that sense, Petco is like Camden (err.... 'Oriole Park')Comment

Re: Pitching motions need work
while I agree they should be better, the only time you should be observing these is when it shows the pitcher warming up for pregame when it announces the starting pitcher...
Like real baseball, if you are watching anything outside of the window of the pitcher's release point, you probably arent going to hit well...
When you are on the bump, you should probably be focused on the pitch meter or you arent going to be hitting your spots (unless maybe if you play classic? which I have never used)
I know we are given a close to perfect game so we all can be nitpicky at times, but just a thoughtComment

Don't forget manage-only-mode where all that stuff is noticed all the time. Or if your position is catcher and you're calling pitches and seeing the delivery all the time. Just saying.while I agree they should be better, the only time you should be observing these is when it shows the pitcher warming up for pregame when it announces the starting pitcher...

Re: Pitching motions need work
Wow!!!!! Great idea. SCEA should just give every pitcher Generic1 for their delivery. While were at it, they should just give every hitter Generic1 as well. Since when we're pitching we shouldn't be looking at the hitter. We should be concentrating on the meter or the glove. I mean really who wants players to look and act like their real life counterparts? You must have been a HUGE fan of Atari baseball back in the day. Just make one model for everyone.while I agree they should be better, the only time you should be observing these is when it shows the pitcher warming up for pregame when it announces the starting pitcher...

Re: Pitching motions need work
I use classic pitching, as do many other people, so I do not look at a meter. Having the players look and act like themselves is a big deal to some people, myself included. If you don't care about this, fine. Just try and think of others, and not just of yourself when you decide to make a post like that.while I agree they should be better, the only time you should be observing these is when it shows the pitcher warming up for pregame when it announces the starting pitcher...

Re: Pitching motions need work
LOL, really? both of you? Wahhhh...
yes there are some imperfections in the deliveries, and yes, if you stare at them and look for something, you will find it... Its a d**n video game.. My point was, if you are focusing on what u should when you play (classic pitching excluded, and manager mode, or the new catcher mode, as the gentleman above you respectfully pointed out) these arent really that noticeable.. thats all.. why dont you crybabies run instant replay and complain how a pigeon toed firstbaseman doesnt run pigeon toed when he completes an unassisted putout
my intent wasnt to come in and flame or step on anyone's toes. I come to this site to get info on the game, but some of yall need to pull your skirts up, just sayinLast edited by ill23matic; 02-03-2010, 12:07 AM.Comment
