I use 1/4 and i'll always use it because i have little kids running and creaming while i play, it helps a little.
    Mets in 2011, why not!!

Off...I used it on forever but switched recently in '09 and kept it that way...love it.

I use it on every pitch. When I play the CPU I guess fastball-up every single pitch and work from there.

I didn't realize there were other options besides on/off. What is the 1/4 option everyone keeps referencing?

Off for me as I think it robs you of some of the some of the cat and mouse that goes on between pitcher and hitter. There is no feeling better than to work the count to 3-1 and to wait for a "go to" Change up and smash it 400 feet, AHHHHH.

Also there is no zone for "right down the middle" with guess pitch. I've seen players that do use it, tend to be late on pitches down the middle, since nothing flashes. Additionally, when a pitcher hangs a pitch, guess pitch messed me up because I would guess the right location (down * away) but the pitcher hangs it down the middle. Guess pitch lights up but it threw me off because I could see that the ball was not where I guessed (down * away) but right down mainstreet.

I used to use it. I don't think it is cheating at all, as others have pointed out that in real life a batter can pick up certain pitches by the movement or release. For me though, I found myself swinging at junk just because I guessed right. When I finally turned it off, it took a few games but I was actually hitting better and walking more. I still guess pitch, but I don't use the function. Rather, I tell myself that a fastball is coming down the middle and if not don't swing. I still end up swinging sometimes, but you get the point. I might try to use it with the no feedback option, but I have a feeling that I will get over anxious with that as well. Plus I don't like to take a hit to my already terrible contact or power ratings.

1/4 guess pitch shows you exactly where the pitch is going to be with a little red circle. There are only 4 zones to guess. I personally love the 1/6 guess pitch. That way there are i think like 8 zones and its harder to get a bonus. The way I use the guess pitch is I guess location and pitch type and only swing if I guess both until I get one strike. Once I get one strike I just guess location and always down, just because I can never tell if the down pitches are in the strike zone. So if it is down and out of the zone it shows me exactly where it is. I still strike out like 7 to 10 times a game.

                  Re: Guess Pitch-On or Off?

I always assumed 1/4 (which I use) did only have 4 zones to pick from, but there are actually 4 zones for the corners as well, making 8 total zones. Not sure if they in essence "don't count" or what not -- but they're there and you can select them as your guess pitch zone as well as the top, left, bottom, and right.

The one thing I don't like is that when you guess the location correctly, it locks your PCI into that zone. So if you guess a high fastball, and nail them both, but the pitch is actually closer to the middle of the strike zone, and sitting in the bottom of your PCI, theres a good chance this meatball is going to be grounded right back to the shortstop.

I've actually found that by NOT using it, I hit better on higher levels. So far (just exhibitions), I'm playing '10 with HOF hitting and getting very realistic results. I've hit some homers, decent amount of doubles, a triple or two, etc....

I'm using "Classic 1/4" and I don't get the little dot when I guess correctly. Just the strike zone and zone itself flashing red separately.

I do remember the little dot from games in the past years, but no dot this year.

Am I wrong or isn't 1/4 the same as default? I know there's two different settings listed, but I always thought they were the same.

I have it off. I didn't think it was cheating or anything, but I felt like it was a crutch which hurt my ability to recog pitches and locations.

                            Re: Guess Pitch-On or Off?

I used it when I first got MLB 08 for about half a year, then I turned it off and found that was much more fulfilling.

Then I played MLB 09 all year without guess pitch. I loved it, but I also got very frustrated very frequently because I could not usually turn on inside fastballs the way real hitters do.

Now I'm playing MLB 10 with guess pitch again, and I'm enjoying it. My time playing without guess pitch has made me a selective hitter, but now I can turn on inside fastballs the way I always wanted, so it feels more sim to me.

So basically I went from guess pitch for a few months, to no guess pitch for almost two years, back to guess pitch again. I feel no shame, don't feel like it's cheating, it's a default setting for a reason, it simulates the batters ability to read the pitcher. Besides even if you guess right you still need to square up on the ball. I'll be a guess pitch player for at least a while now.
