If we were to use a classic stadium for the Rays every time they had a home game. Would this too avoid the problem? I can't stand the Trop or Dolphins stadium and was planning on using a classic as their home field.

Yes...that would work.
It's the stadium I believe.

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
Thank you so much! Can finally start my Rays franchise now.
It happened to me last night in the top of the 7th when I tried subbing in a relief pitcher from the pen. It was also an exhibition match.Comment

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
Yes, the problem is with the stadium, not the team, so it's fine if you play as the Rays at a different stadium, and the problem exists at the Trop no matter who the home team is.
And the idea that the 7th inning is special with regards to the problem is incorrect; it's just the inning where those people happened to bring up the bullpen. You can do the glitch in the 1st inning or the 21st inning just as easily. (Although getting to the 21st inning might not be so easy. :P)Comment

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
Played an exhibition game at the Trop against the Orioles yesterday. Brought in quite a few pitchers for both teams(because I pitched for both sides). Used the quick menu and had no problem whatsoever. The only time there was a freeze is when B.J. Upton came to bat. 4 AB's - 4 strikeouts! A frozen Sombraro!Yes, the problem is with the stadium, not the team, so it's fine if you play as the Rays at a different stadium, and the problem exists at the Trop no matter who the home team is.

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
Hmmm... did you happen to not press select between the time you started warming up your reliever and the time you brought him in? If so, that's why it didn't freeze. Bringing in a reliever is one of the conditions that cancels the freeze problem. As I said earlier, pausing the game and bringing up the quick menu without entering the bullpen are the other two things that cancel the freeze problem. I'd also like to test whether or not a change of innings will cancel the freeze problem. My guess is that it won't, but I guess it's worth testing.Played an exhibition game at the Trop against the Orioles yesterday. On another note, as I was thinking about the fact that accessing the bullpen from the pause menu prevents the freeze; does the pause menu return to the screen after you leave the bullpen from there? If so, it's the fact that the pause menu is indeed returning to the screen that causes the glitch to cancel out. It's basically automatically performing the workaround since it's automatically bringing up the pause menu.
I'm also kind of curious if this glitch happens in any other ballparks in the game, but that would be a heck of a task to specifically test every single park; hopefully we would have found out from the community if any of the other stadiums were freezing. I hope the other stadiums are all fine. It would suck to be in the middle of a game elsewhere and have it freeze.Comment

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
I wonder if this has anything to do with losing your pitching HUD? I've noticed that often times you will lose the pitch types on your screen after returning from the bullpen screen. Pressing Start gets them back.....Steam: BahnzoComment

I'll be interested to try this out. Hopefully this works as I play with the Rays in franchise and the freezing may be a small problem for me.Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
I am having conflicting results with what is posted here.
I think the inning DOES matter. I have played 5 consecutive games @ the Trop (all exhibition) with the following results.
If I hit SELECT at any point beyond the 6th inning the game freezes instantly. Nothing comes up on the screen at all...no bullpen, not submenus just frozen in time.
The reason I am saying the inning matters is because I hit select 10-15 times per game to check my pitchers' pitch counts and batters on deck etc. It is a great quick menu with a lot of valuable information. I am not even entering my bullpen menu when the game freezes, I am simply hitting select.
If you are telling me that I can avoid this bug by simply NOT hitting select at all then that is great; however, the issue (at least for me) is that I have used this 'SELECT menu' since the first Show was released. It is a natural reflex every inning and every game I play. I don't even think I could not do it if I tried.Last edited by phatjoe; 03-09-2010, 11:12 AM.Comment

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
Great, so there's more to it than meets the eye. Based on the above poster's comments, I can say for certain that the freeze can always be triggered by using the bullpen from the quick menu no matter what inning it is, but apparently it's triggered in other ways as well. All I can think of is:
1) Maybe it's triggered when the CPU makes its pitchers start warming up; not sure how this could be tested effectively...maybe try pressing select after Matt V. says that the opposing team has a pitcher warming up; maybe that will trigger the freeze.
2) If not, then maybe there's some other event in the game in addition to the bullpen one that also triggers the freeze; no clue what that event could be, though.
3) Maybe there's a memory leak or something in the stadium's code? Not sure if that's possible, though...
At any rate, if you do want to try to complete a game at Tropicana Field, try pausing the game regularly during the course of play; hopefully that will get you through...no guarantees, though.
Otherwise, if you're itching to play in a dome with the Rays... there's always the Metrodome!

Great post, and nice to see a work around for it.
I have full confidence that Sony will address this issue in the next patch, especially now that you have narrowed it down some more.

What if you turned the warm up pitcher option off ? at least you could see if that that is the problem ?Comment

Re: Exactly what's wrong with Tropicana Field + Workaround
Has anyone besides me been able to get through a whole game at the Trop? I had no freezing at all. Here is how I play. I play every game with every team and just hit. However, I do access the bullpens for both sides if I feel the computer doesn't have the right pitcher in there (if a lefty should be in to face the lefty ETC). I didn't have one hicup, or freeze the whole game. I will try another game there tonight and see what happens. The game I played was Baltimore at Tampa Bay (Millwood vs Shields). Millwood was KO'd in the 4th and I had to use the bullpens a lot. I mostly access the bullpen at the begining of each inning late in a game before I move the controler to the team to hit.Last edited by stlcardsfan44; 03-09-2010, 02:08 PM.Comment

Wow, so glad I found this and hopefully it works (will try it out tonight). I have tried 3 times in season mode as the Orioles to play my games and they have all frozen up during my first series at the Trop...When life hands you a lemon, just look up and say, "Oh yeah, is that all you got?
