Re: MLB '10 The Show Tips and Work Arounds

Can someone please help me with this:

Every single time I start a season or franchise, after spring training, the rosters I upload are not the rosters that display. I have control of all 30 teams with my profile. I have everything set to manual, and still the computer makes moves without my consent. The lineups and rotations revert to what the computer wants, not what I want. This game is frustrating the hell out of me and I'm beginning to question why I laid out $60 to be frustrated.

To boot, I'm 1-16 against the computer. On Rookie. I can live with that, I guess. I'll just have to get better. Please, someone, anyone, help me with this before I break the disc in half and set it ablaze!!

Are you talking about guys passing waivers at the 1st day of the season?
Anyone who is not on the active roster after spring training must use an option or pass through waivers(if no options).
The CPU assess the talent on the MLB roster for day 1. If you set the lineps/rotations after spring training they will stay set.
If you have the roster moves set to manual for the 30 team control teams....the CPU won't make any moves for you(other than the one described above).

Essentially, when I begin the Season or Franchise, I upload my rosters. As an example, for the Phillies, Rollins leads off, and Jayson Werth bats 5th before spring training. After spring training, Victorino leads off and Werth bats 7th behind Rollins. At the start of Spring, Kendrick is my 5th starter on the Phillies. After spring training, Moyer is the 5th starter. I just don't get it. I've already gone through the agony of doing the lineups and rotations, I don't want to have to do it again for every single team after Spring Training. I'm just looking for a way that I don't have to fix every single roster after spring training and I can just the rosters I use during exhibition games.

Thanks for your help, by the way.

          Can't do it.
The way it's set up....the CPU automatically "fixes" every team to insure a valid roster.
I don't get it either...but that's the way it is.
          ST first...fix everything....start season.
FYI...unless you have your lineups/rotations to MANUAL.....the CPU will re-adjust. If you have it to MANUAL....they will stay the entire season.
If you do put it on auto.....you can still change it(if you take 30 team control to start the franchise of each team)..and it will stay for a while...but will eventually re-adjust(for injury......trade..etc)
Even with manual....the CPU will adjust the lineup for rest in game.

              Here is what you do.
              Start your franchise.
Play or sim Spring Training. (DON'T, I repeat DON'T select End Spring.)
Now, before ending the spring, go in and set your lineup/rotations for YOUR team, and any other team you don't want the CPU to make roster decisions for.....INCLUDING sending players down to the minors. Once you have all the teams you don't want the CPU making decisions for set, with ONLY 25 players on MLB, AAA, and AA respectively, then click END Spring Training. For the teams that you have the rosters set, the CPU won't make any roster moves.

The reason this is happening, is because each team has the ENTIRE 40 man roster available in Spring Training. Thus, every member of the 40 Man roster is listed as being ON the MLB team. When you click END SPRING TRAINING, the CPU is sending players down, to get to the 25 man roster limit. In doing so, it is jumbling your lineups. The way to get around this (Its not really getting around it, because, in real life, MLB teams have to get down to a 25 man roster BEFORE the season starts, the CPU is just doing this for manually controlled teams that don't trim their roster) is to set your rosters, and make your cuts, and send downs BEFORE ending Spring Training.

When you think about it, it makes sense, as it mirrors the real MLB yet again.

                Quick question:

My franchise is not retaining all my settings from session to session. My sliders stay intact but everytime I load up the franchise and start a game, the API is on, the delivery speed is "normal" and the presentation mode is Broadcast. I set the API to off and Presentation to Real Time and delivery to "fast" when I started the league.

It's really annoying to have to go dig through the settings every single game and set them. I keep saving my profile, my sliders, my settings. Same problem over and over again.

Knight, any suggestions for the massive amount of top pitching prospects in the draft? All the top draft prospects are pitchers.

                    So far...I haven't seen that.
I just did a test draft and there were only 12 SP(granted...it seemed like 5 were targeted)....18 or so RP....and no CP.
On the other hand....there were tons of position players.
However...the only thing I can think of is.....to draft for the other teams as well and specifically avoid the pitchers.

Really? Huh. I haven't done a draft yet, I just noticed that out of the top 10 prospects in each region usually 9 of them are pitchers. I guess i don't really understand if all the guys that are in the pool aren't drafted what happens to them? Do they just stay in for the next year? If all these top potential prospects are pitchers isn't the league eventually going to be incredibly pitching heavy. Too bad you can't edit the positions.

Thanks a lot for this guide!
I was getting a bit worried about starting my franchise before the patch, but now I feel better about it. I'll start my franchise after the rosters are done (either Knight's or possibly SkyFlame's).

                        Thanks for all the work!

After you change the setting to what you want (inside the franchise) go to the save area and save the profile/settings etc...

Right, I've done this. Numerous times. The settings, sliders, profile and franchise.

Every time I come back to the game and load the franchise the settings revert back despite having saved them.

Keep in mind the Players Union is powerful..the DH is the highest paid position..adding a DH to the NL adds jobs. If anything it will be added to the NL..it will never be taken out of the AL...that is losing jobs for the players..it's unfortunate because I think it will be a much more pleasing game with no DH
