Actually, in real life, a change (i.e., circle, palmball or splitty) is the last pitch that most pitchers develop since what gets them noticed in HS and college is their arm. So although the developers probably weren't meaning for it to happen this way, it follows a real life pitchers progression better than having all of those pitches to begin with.

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

Hopefully this helps folks who've been having problems. And maybe the Devs can shed some light on the changeup affecting your velocity if it's one of your first three pitches?

I don't know if they intended to do it, or if that's a glitch. But if you add a changeup later you'll be fine.Comment

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

It's great to see that someone else realizes this. I've always added a changeup once I got to the majors in RTTS since '08. That's why I didn't run into this particular problem when it was first being reported.Actually, in real life, a change (i.e., circle, palmball or splitty) is the last pitch that most pitchers develop since what gets them noticed in HS and college is their arm. But hey, I said I'll try to help out anyway.Comment

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

I remember reading in The Show '08 that pitching mechanics played a role in velocity. I used Tom Glavine pitching stance that year and I never got my fastball above 97 even though everything was maxed out. I later created a new RttS player because you couldn't go back and change the motion once you created your player, and used Cole Hamels stance and was able to get the 4sb up to 101 often on maxed stats.est 1978

Good job guys. Good job guys.

Submit the fix to the stickied work around thread.

If you need me to test a third pitcher let me know. I haven't created a RTTS pitcher in MLB'10 so I have no emotional investment. Maybe even show the difference with having a Changeup in your initial pitches.Comment

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

Ok here are my results(sorry it took so long game went into extra innings)

 4SFB velocity: 62
 RFB velocity: 59
 SCV velocity: 52

 4SFB scouting report: 91 MPH
 RFB scouting report: 89 MPH
 SCV scouting report 76 MPH

 4SFB actual speed: 89-91 MPH
 RFB actual speed: 89-90 MPH
 SCV actual speed 71-73 MPH

So this seems to be the fix for the 4SFB velocity problem although as you see my sweeping curve was not hitting its scout velocity...PSN:GOLDENxEYE

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

OK here are my results for a pitcher with and without a changeup as one of your 3 initial pitches.

 WITHOUT THE CHANGEUP

 4SFB velocity: 62
 RFB velocity: 59
 SCV velocity: 52

 4SFB scouting report: 91 MPH
 RFB scouting report: 89 MPH
 SCV scouting report 76 MPH

 4SFB actual speed: 89-91 MPH
 RFB actual speed: 89-90 MPH
 SCV actual speed 71-73 MPH

 WITH THE CHANGEUP

 4SFB velocity: 64
 CH velocity: 56
 2SFB velocity: 56

 4SFB scouting report: 92 MPH
 CH scouting report: 77 MPH
 2SFB scouting report 88 MPH

 4SFB actual speed: 88-90 MPH
 CH actual speed: 75-77 MPH
 2SFB actual speed 86 MPH

So it cetainly seems to be the changeup that is causing this problem.PSN:GOLDENxEYE

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

Boy do I regret adding the chageup as a 4th pitch...even after I removed it and increased the velocity of all my pitches to 64,61,62 my 4SFB was only going 88-90 it should be at 91-93....So it looks like adding a changeup at all with hinder your pitch speed....PSN:GOLDENxEYE

Thanks for helping out with the testing Brandon (i was getting kind of tired of taking the pics, uploading them, etc. lol)

We need to get this thread closed and stickied so people can see what the problem is and how they can avoid it.Comment

Re: Trying to get to the bottom of the RTTS pitching

Not trying to add heat to the fire but, my pitch velocities were relativity close before testing and my first three pitches were 4SFB, Slider, Curveball... no change up.... and saw 4SFB speed problems...

Perhaps Curveball could be added to this testing...

 Just my $0.02

Would also love to see Circle change testing compared to regular Change up...

I have had speed problems and never have had a regular Change up...Comment

You said in this thread your numbers were close, but this is what you posted in the other thread. Not trying to add heat to the fire but, my pitch velocities were relativity close before testing and my first three pitches were 4SFB, Slider, Curveball... no change up.... and saw 4SFB speed problems...

I have had speed problems and never have had a regular Change up...

My pitcher had 77, 76, and 79. My test guy had 61, 59, 60.So, there is no problem... we just have to make the exact same pitcher?

 That makes sense...

my RTTS already has 5 pitches...

Ok... I'll break it down as you are not seeming to understand the order of events...

 1.) Started a pitcher... 4SFB, Slider, Curveball...
2.) Got my 4SFB Vel to 75ish, Slider 50ish, Curveball 40ish, saw the scouting report wasnt matching my actual 4SFB, report 94-97, I was 87-88...

 Brandon's test guy was 62, 59, and 52.

 How is 75ish, 50ish, and 40ish close? There's a 35 point difference between 75 and 40....

The largest difference for me was 3, the largest difference for Brandon's test guy was 10, and your largest difference is 35ish....your velocities weren't close. Do you get it now? This is what I've been telling you the entire time.Comment
