The A's sent Ben Sheets across the bay for Madison Bumgarner, Dan Runzler, and Zack Wheeler. The A's are struggling to stay above .500 and are over 10 games back of Seattle, so it looks like they might be giving up on this season.

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Two more interesting trades happened in my franchise.
D'backs trade 1B Adam LaRoche, SP Ian Kennedy and 1B Brandon Allen to the Astros for SP Roy Oswalt - The Astros are the worst team in baseball and the D'Backs are in the hunt.
Blue Jays trade SP Brandon Morrow to the Dodgers for SS Rafael Furcal - I kind of like this trade since the Dodgers picked up Reyes in the offseason and are using him at 2nd. It looks like the dodgers are really trying put together a solid rotation.
On the Strasburg trade I mentioned earlier, I let that one stand. The trade in itself is not all that bad for the Nationals since they get a proven quality pitcher with MLB experience for their top prospect pitcher who hasn't played an MLB game yet. I figure the trade could go either way and I haven't stopped any other trade from happening so why start now? But what really sealed the deal for me was the fact that the Dodgers purchased his contract right after the trade and called him up. On the Nationals he might have dominated AAA for another year or two. The Nats then sent Marquis and Wang down through waivers. I thought about grabbing Marquis for about a minute but then sanity kicked in. They both cleared waivers easily.Last edited by cardsleadtheway; 06-22-2010, 01:17 PM.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Hey guys I'm wanting to start a franchise with my team the Giants, and go the 30 man control so I can stop the unrealistic trades, but since I'm still learning the game I was wondering if someone could help me to understand which trades are unrealistic and which aren't, I mean for example I know getting like Ryan Howard and giving away Renteria, Rowand and a decent prospect is unrealistic.
So I just need help from the other teams trades as I'm still learning what is equal value in baseball.
Thanks.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
You can post trades that are pending here and most people will chime in whether they are realistic or not. I have found so far that playing 1 team control has more realistic trades than 30 team control. It is my theory that this is because on 30 team control you will see all trade offers and have to make the decision on whether to let it through or not, but on 1 team control you won't see all offers, hence you will have no idea if certain ridiculous trade offers were rejected by the CPU. It is a theory only though. You can also keep teams from making bad trades in 1 team control as well. What you have to do is save after each game and before simming ahead each day. If there is a trade you don't like, just reload the save and you have lost nothing nor will you need to replay any games. I have found that most trades work out for the teams trading, despite whether people think they are fair or not. Other times, certain prospects will be traded for despite the team having an abundance of players at that position, but I don't fret because those same prospects are sometimes turned for a prospect or player in a position the team does need.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Made 2 trades with my Braves franchise a couple weeks apart
Got David DeJesus, Mike Moustakas and Wil Myers from the Royals for Jordan Schafer (who had been tearing it up in the minors, .400 in AA, .350 in AAA) and 2 other A pitching prospects
Then traded DeJesus and 2 more prospects for Kubel, Aaron Hicks, and Matt Bashore.
Made this trades to get a 3B of the future in Moustakas (disappointed he was only B potential though if I recall correctly) a good young reliever in Bashore, and a CF of the future in Hicks since I don't like Schafer much.
Short-term Kubel will platoon with Diaz in right insteal of Melky Cabrera. Realized I have an overload of OF at the big league level though as well as lefty hitters
I'm actually hoping to turn around and trade Myers and probably Hicks and another A potential starter for Desmond Jennings but he's a tough guy to acquireComment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I think it was in this thread that I posted my possibility of a Beltran+Castillo to TB for Hellickson, Jennings, Brignac, Alex Moore, but it was late May so I decided to hold off.
However, now I'm in the 2nd week of June and the Cardinals traded Brad Penny to the Padres for Mike Adams and Matt Stairs, and then put Skip Schumaker on waivers.
One of the other reasons I held off was if I had traded Castillo, I wouldn't have a 2nd baseman the remainder of the year(other than Alex Cora), but now with the Cardinals putting Schumaker on waivers, I'm tempted to claim him and pull off the deal with the Rays. I haven't done much better since my last post only winning 2 or 3 games in the last 2 weeks due to pitching ineffectiveness and Jason Bay being lost for a month, and I'm 21 games under .500, so I feel like making this move and adding prospects will go a long way in 2011. I know it's still a month early, but I just don't think my rotation has it in them to string together enough starts to get me near .500 or the wild card even, it's been such a strange season(this is my 3rd franchise due to waiting for rosters, etc, and in my others my pitching was never THIS bad, so I'm optimistic about the following season)Comment

Actually... this is for my Mariners franchise... My yankees are not short of any offense.... I have looked at Dunn... but i wanted someone I could build around... like King Felix... Or Ichiro (who is already up there in age)
Im thinking Dunn would be a good add if I was contending... right now I am.. hah, but it's still early and the M's weak bullpen and soft lineup will surely show true to form eventually in the season...Note to self: BUY MADDEN 12*
*there are considerable franchise upgrades

LOL...Jason Heyward is playing for his 3rd team in a season and a half. I guess he's a cancer in the clubhouse.
He was traded from the Braves to the Rangers and now the Rangers have traded him to the Rockies.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I was wondering why you would feel the need to add more power to the Yankees!!
If you have someone in the pipeline, Lee could buy you a year or two. I would probably go after Dunn though. He's younger (30) and while I have never played with him in the game, I imagine he can rake.
Hunter Pence is a good young all around player (great defense and arm as well) but he is not a true power hitter. He could definitely be an asset over the long haul though.Comment

In my franchise - Strasburg and some other randoms got traded to the Rays for Carl Crawford.
I only control my team - not going to start over and control all 30 until knight and co.'s rosters are a little more finalized (after trade deadline etc)Comment

On a curious note, any of the draft picks from your first franchise doing anything yet? The pirates had the number 2 overall pick and they took a stellar 1st baseman that they called up already and is leading the league in rookie of the year voting.Comment

How do you know Helton will retire? And why are you asking how prospects will turn out? Isn't that the whole point in gambling for prospects? You are not supposed to know how they will turn out. That is why they are prospects. In all fairness though, I think everyone B and higher and most C's will progress very well in this game. There doesn't seem to be any busts, at least as far as I can tell.Comment

I ask in case anyone has seen how he turns out is all, just curious since that is who I most likely will try to get. It's not always about being as realistic as possible, it's still just a video game dude.
Helton is injured in my franchise for a few months - he is getting older - I put them together and figure retirement possibly.Comment
