I really want to help you out, but you are playing as the Yankees and helping them would go against everything I stand for. Seriously though, I can't understand how you can be complaining about a lack of power/talent/production with that lineup. So your corner outfielders aren't giving you much pop? You get it at the 3rd, SS, 2nd, and catcher positions, whereas most teams are lucky to get production out of any one of those positions. And if you have Berkman to boot, you shouldn't have much to worry about. He should be able to do a decent job out there. And it doesn't seem like you are struggling, being that you are on pace to win 100 games. Or do you just want everyone in your lineup to be batting over .300?

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I'm batting .267! And on the decline, btw.
Did you see some of those ERA's? Would you stand for that?
Weren't the Yankees on pace to win OVER 100 games when they got Wood, Berkman, and Kearns?
My fake Vazquez is just like the real Vazquez...terrible. I'm lucky to get 3 innings out of him. How many games were the Yanks on pace for when they moved him to the pen?
Didn't I say at the beginning REALISTIC?
Did you see Swisher's and Gardner's averages? Would the REAL Yanks stand for that? Why should I.
I'm just trying to get some suggestions. Man Cards, I hope you were being sarcastic. Haven't I helped YOU out before?Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Relax man, I was giving you a hard time since you are using the Yankees, a team that starts off the game with players that are overrated as it is.
I picked up Swisher off waivers in season two, and while he is not hitting for the kind of power I had anticipated he hit much better than .189. I asked if you had Berkman or not though, as that is a serious answer to your problems. Put Berkman in left or right for Swisher. Other than that, you may need to wait another 40ish games to be able to pull off a trade with a team that is out of the running and ready to sell. The Nationals should be a good candidate. I have no idea what prospects are in the Yankee system (as they usually trade them away for stars other teams won't be able to afford). I can't imagine that you won't be able to ship off a few for Adam Dunn, who has monster power and can play the corner outfield positions. I have had pretty good success with Carlos Quentin in my franchise, and picked him up for Justin Duchscherer, whom I imagine is rated about the same as Vazquez, so you could give that a try. He declines a lot in subsequent years though, since he is a C potential and starts off rated pretty high.
Basically, you should be able to get just about any player that is in their final contract year for prospects if that team is out of the race. You should find out about July 1st, when the team overview states whether they are playoff push or not. Now if they are playoff push, you may be able to trade away a veteran of yours (Swisher perhaps) for a young arm to put in your pen. I can only speak for the A's, but both Breslow and Brad Kilby are great young lefty relievers. Michael Wuertz is a top tier reliever, but might be a little tough to get since he has two years on his contract. Unfortunately, the odds of the A's being in the race are pretty slim.
I almost forgot that if the A's start out as rebuilding like they did when I started my franchise, you should be able to get either Sheets or Duchscherer or both for just about any prospects. I had trouble pitching with Duke, but Sheets is money man.Last edited by cardsleadtheway; 09-14-2010, 05:35 PM.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I didn't even know Berkman could play the OF...huh. Thanks.
Dunn...yeah, good idea.
I definately have Duke and Breslow on my radar. I don't plan on doing ANYTHING until about the beginning of July, minus injury.
Cards, why is Duke hard to pitch with? I'd hate to deal for him and then find out what you mean.
I've read that you've had some success with Swish. Any tricks to figuring him out? He has decent power, so I don't get it.
I'm looking to keep things as realistic as possible. You know, no way I'm trading for Heyward.
Sorry for snapping at you Cards. It's hard to read TONE online. Thanks for the input. My best prospect is Jesus Montero (C,1B). Ivan Nova too, though he may be first in line to get the call up.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
You didn't know Berkman could play the outfield? HAHA. You must be relatively young then. Perhaps you don't remember a guy named Jeff Bagwell playing first base for the Astros. Berkman had to play somewhere. On the game though, you can put just about anyone out there with very little repercussion. I mean look at the A's. Jack Cust? Jeremy Giambi? I could go on for days.
Duke is hard to pitch for me because his fastball tops out at about 86 mph and I have a hard time getting that awesome curve to drop perfectly without hanging. I traded him pretty early on in my franchise, so perhaps I would be able to pitch better with him now, but the White Sox are loving him and that deal.
I wouldn't say that I figured Swisher out. Last season he was very streaky for me, not hitting for much power most of the time, but also coming through is some serious clutch situations like the post season. In spring training this season he outperformed everyone on the team, but is not hitting well below the Mendoza line. I had to bench him and am wondering if re-signing him was a good idea. It was only a one year deal so I didn't lose out too badly. He walks a lot in real life so perhaps that is why I don't seem to get as good of pitches as some of the other guys get. Maybe you could try and be real patient with him, work a ton of walks, and then you might get better pitches to hit. At least I am hoping that works for me.
If you want to be realistic when trading, then do whatever you want. You are playing as the Yankees after all. I am pretty sure that they believe they can have anyone they want. And in real baseball, there are no certainties. I remember a few years ago when Billy Beane said that the A's were in rebuilding mode and anyone not named Swisher could possibly be traded. A few weeks later, Swisher gets traded to the White Sox for three top prospects. It happens.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Thinking about getting some more pop to my lineup and another solid pitcher to make the bottom of my rotation stronger before the trade deadline. Im currently at July 24th and 4gms ahead of the Rays. I play as the Yankes and right now my rotation looks like this:
CC
Vasquez
AJ
Hughes
Pettitte
Vasquez is my best pithcer with a record of 14-2 and Aj is 11-1 right now. CC is doing good as well. Hughes has pitched well for me after the All Star game winning both games after the break. Pettitte is having a mediocre season for me. He normally has 1 good game and the next 2 he can't get past the 5th inning. I am looking for another solid pitcher and a good bat for some pop.
Here are my proposed trades im thinking about:
Mariners: Cliff Lee (or Felix Hernandez), Griffey for Nick Johnson and Joba Chamberlain (or Ivan Nova)..maybe throw in Jesus Montero
Astros: Lance Berkman and Roy Oswalt for Nick Johnson and Joba Chamberlain (or Nova)
Let me know what others think.Last edited by ckarlic; 09-15-2010, 03:06 PM.PSN: ckarlic

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Joba is only one of two pitchers on my staff with an ERA under 3.00.
Mariano is around 2.80.
Joba is around 0.67. Seriously, the best performance I've ever had in a franchise.
As far as the Swisher conundrum, I benched him last nite and Austin Kearns went 3-4 with a double and a dinger. He now has 3 homers coming off the bench, like 17 or so appearances. Looks like he wants the job. If Swish doesn't figure things out by the end of the first bout of interleague play, he may just ride the pine for a while.
I sent David Robertson down to AAA after he got beat up yet again last night. I may use this round of interleague to scout some NL relief help. First up, the Mets.
As far as who it was that asked about trading for Lee, I did a mock run the other night to see if Texas would bite on 3 mid level prospects...yeah, no chance. You'd have to give up quite a bit for that guy, and rightfully so.
BTW, I'm hanging on to Nova. He's only a "D" potential in my Franchise, but he's been rolling with a hot symbol for a few weeks now in AAA.
Oh, I remember Bagwell...ofcourse. But for some reason, Berk in the outfield escapes me.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I need a power bat with my Giants, I mean the only players in the team that can hit are my favourite, Posey and then there is Panda but thats it. After those 2 players it is a big drop off to the other hitters, and they are only young so I feel it isn't ideal to put the pressure of the offense of 2 guys.
So I was wondering who I could realistically trade for to give my offense a boost and take the pressure off Buster and the free swinging Panda.
Thanks in advance.Comment

You could probably sent some prospects out for Vlad or Manny. Do you have Jose Guillen/Cody Ross like the current Giants do?Comment

With Huff, Sandoval, Posey, Uribe, Pat Burrell(right?), and Guillen, you shouldn't have too much trouble in the pop department.
Adam Dunn, maybe? Or Russell Branyan? You have plenty of low power outfielders to trade away. I haven't looked at the contracts. You may need to part with some pitching talent though.Comment

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
in almost every sim or rtts i do. i always see the giants (cpu) picking up kanerko (sometimes pujols) till they can upgrade to prince fielder either by trade or fa. then they almost always eventually get travis snider and they win their division every year till fielder is gone. snider also is always in the top 3 for NL mvp every single year he is with the giants.
this is with os / knights roster and i have sim several franchises and have several rtts players, and this is a pretty common trend i see, so imagine what you could do with those 2 in your lineup.Comment
