It's pretty annoying to do RTTS and Franchise and see players like David Price, Longoria, Bruce, etc who never get signed again.

Re: **The TRUTH Behind "Free Agents 2013"**

I keep running into problems even with many different simulations. The most recent one I tried was with updated stock SCEA rosters and ignore budgets off. I get to the end of the 2013 off season and there weren't any free agents of note. Looks like its fixed. Nope. I advance to spring training and check the free agents and all of the sudden there are at least 30 A rated players ranging from Pujols to Halladay and many more. These players got released sometime between the end of the off season and the start of spring training. Not a big gap there.

Looks like I need to put this game away for the year and hope 2011 fixes this issue. I only play a couple games per season and like to go deep into franchises to see players' careers progress. This doesn't work for me. Shame too because I love every other aspect about it.

Yeah, I just spotted this thread and what a heart-breaker for franchise. I ran simulations with stock 8-2 SCEA rosters and with user created rosters. In both simulations you start to see loads of A talent players enter the FA pool during spring training around 2013 or 2014. What a game-killer, in one simulation players like Strasburg and Longoria sat in the FA pool untouched for years. What a shame.

I beleive I found a plausible solution through some testing I've done. The only caveat; it's NOT in franchise mode. The best way to play with good results, and thus no 2013 problem, is to play in SEASON mode. I beleive season mode works well for several reasons: (1) There are considerbly less players to deal with than in franchise; 40 man rosters only as opposed to 3 minor league rosters
            (2) Less players equals more room to sign good players; no experieng single-a contracts leading to rediculous extensions.
            (3) No other money worries such as transportation, medical staff, concessions, etc. Money goes straight to the players.
            (4) Player potential works well because now there is NO training you have to assign, players progress "naturally".

Give Knights roster a try or the latest SCEA update and you shouldn't have a problem for seasons to come. Even try putting it on 30 team control and basically let the CPU take control and IF you should see a man in free agency that shouldn't be, sign him with his original team! Let me know how this works out for you!

Never really considered myself to play season mode (mostly because I love how in-depth Franchise mode is compared to regular old season mode)

but I'll have to give it a try.

Not what I wanted to hear. I have been waiting for Ridins rosters to start a franchise thinking this problem was solved. I'm just about ready to give up on this game if thats the case and go back to playing 09.

I made a roster off 5/24 rosters with top 100 prospects...had the fewest number of A's. I have it updated with transactions to July 31. I am in year 2015 with no problems. You can get it on sportsconnect as updatedtrade.

Thanks, if thats the case then I will start playing 10 again. Ridin has been making a roster off of I think the 6/14 update that should be comparable to OS rosters of knight@company in case you did not know. I think he is just about done and should be releasing them tonight or tomorrow. I enjoy 09 with knights end of the season rosters but the graphics and new updates in 10 are just so much better not to mention 30 team control.

The season mode is just one season, correct?

And also tbarnes, your seriously having no problems what so ever? Or are you going through 30-team control changing every contract etc?

hmmm, I might only play up until that offseason and then trade the game in if that's the case

Maybe there is younger talent out there from the generated fictional player system lol.

I am having no problems with the roster I created. I used the 5/24 roster...had the fewest A potential players. I only edited players I did not create players....because that adds more A PLAYERS to the mix. I have had no problems yet. The roster is far from perfect. I created top 100 plus prospects and did some editing of existing players. Grab it on SC and try it. I uploaded a new version yesterday or so....It's labeled updatedtrade.

I thought that everybody had caught on to this and that is why I havn't posted this, but If you cut the training off during season the free agent problem totally disappears, all players in offseason progress and regress very realistically, Two players i can remember off the top off my head (I ran the test almost 3 weeks ago so no offcial #'s) Buster Posey gained like 25 points overall per year. and an example off regression I can remember is Brandon Phillips who's overall is mid 90's at the age of 29 basically began to plateau lost 1 point across the board per year which only meant 1 point overall, so basically even at thirty five he was still one of the best 2nd basemen in the league. I think that the training is more of an in season juice which really imo is used to juice the #'s. I'm currently at my moms doing laundry but once I get home I will post stats and other #'s from my franchse which is in late June to back this up, I'm sorry this post turned into a run on sentence but "30 team control and no training is the OFFICIAL FIX for the free agent problem"
