Bob Costas and John Smoltz do a fine job over on the MLB network.

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
Marty Brennaman is the best radio announcer of all time, shames Vin Scully's sleep a thon calls. Thom Brennaman is a treat to hear on TV, although he can be a little hard on the home team but I like guys that call it as they see it.
Scully on MLB 98 was so booooring and mundane...I would be devastated if he joined the video game booth. The game gets boring as it is.
This, Obviously Thom has the chops, you see him on TV commentating everything. Marty is a HOF'er and one one of the best around I think he would bring a brash style to the game. I could never see him announcing a Cub game though. Not even in a video game. Also, the father/son thing would be cool.
However, this will never happen because Marty has said that he has been approached about doing video games before and has turned it down I think.Comment

I'd love to have Gary Thorne added, but I know he's in the "other game".
That guy's just a great announcer...Comment

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
Once again I reiterate, no Hawk Harrelson, Jon Miller, and definitely no Duane Kuiper. I cannot play MVP 05 anymore because of Kuiper, and when I had to watch the Giants broadcast when the Padres were in SF, I was tearing my eyes out.
Anybody else would be fine. I'm all for MLBN crew.Comment

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
no offence to Vin Scully or those who said they wanted him, but in my opinion he's just a little too momotone most of the time,
i would like to see either the rangers broadcasters, the marlins broadcasters (those guys get really excited, i remember the back to back homers by dan uggla and cody ross off of kevin gregg), the angels broadcasters (victor rohas has added some excitement to the both, though i wish rory was still there)
or, i would like to see the return of MVP 2005 broadcasters, "GRAB SOME PINE MEAT!" lol
or yeah, the mlb network crew, lol, dan pleasak, "KUNG FU PANADA!"R.I.P. Rory Markas, Nick Adenhart and Tyler Skaggs

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
What makes Vin the best announcer of all time imo is his sense of history, timing and story telling. I don't think these strengths would translate in a video game especially for the younger set. It would be cool if we could get three lead announcers and switch off when it gets repetitive like the old tony larussa pc game.
I like Matt V. but dump soup and rex.Pitchers and Catchers Report; Life Worth Living AgainComment

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
For some reason I like Matty Vas in the game (although I get annoyed with him, constantly hearing his voice on MLB Network as well as The Show), but I would love it if they replaced Rex and Soup. I would say Vin Scully if he's willing, and maybe either a Michael Kay or a Gary Cohen. All of them are play-by-play guys though, so they'd have to find a good analyst. I say go with Vasgersian or Sully, Cohen, and Al Leiter lol. As corny as he is sometimes, I've always loved Al Leiter in the booth back to when he was calling postseason games while still an active player, and onto his career at YES. He gives great analysis, and it's hilarious to see his ADD kick in and see him talk extremely fast and get and fumble his words. I love the enthusiasm haha.
That's just my wishlist though, I have a feeling we'll be stuck with the same crew for quite a while.Last edited by gEO 3b 4; 06-03-2010, 05:56 AM.Comment

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
you know what really sucks. I switched off the commentary but i think about what they are going to say after each pitch. The same repetitive lines that i dont want to hear, i end up hearing in my head.
i dont know how you take that and i dont know how its not a strike....ect etc
they really need new announcers.Comment

re: Commentator Discussion Thread
I am not dodger fan however he is an old-time announcer Vin Schney he would a great announcer minus the stories and with him Bob Uecker doing the color comments.
One guy had done 51 yrs of announcer of baseball. And who does not get a bunch of laughs of hearing Uecker talking baseball
Or just get Bob Costas to announce the games and maybe a choice of the different color commentators.Comment

Thinking outside the box a little, why not go with Casey Stern and Jim Bowden from Sirius/XM Inside Pitch with (dreaming, but as likely as me getting a date with Shania Twain...) Pete Rose, or maybe Cal Ripken Jr...Never underestimate the power of human stupidity - R.A. Heinlein
