So maybe a way to make outfielding (do not know if this word exists!) harder and linked to player's attributes would be first to make the indicator very small when you have a very poor fielder and large when you're a gold glover.

With that, the range of an easy catch depends on fielding attributes.

Re: First flyball error in over 200 games!!

I have seen two since I bought the game a year ago.

Ellsbury had one bounce off his face trying to run it down, so I am not sure that was actually routine, but the fact that it got him right in the forehead was certainly an interesting animation.

Second one was last week, and I had Bill Hall out in left field to give Cameron a day off. High fly ball, near the foul line at Fenway, and Hall reaches up and looks to be all off-balance and fighting the ball.. The ball bounces off his glove, he looks around for it, and fires it in to second, but too late, and the batter slides in safe.

The announcing team says something to the effect of, "Well, that is what can happen when a guy is playing a position he is not used to".

So, the game sees Bill Hall as an infielder, and I trot him out there to left field, he kicks a ball, and they announce the fact that it is pretty much the manager's fault for sticking him out there... Cool by me.

I believe given the nightmare that was included in the other game's "Adventures in Outfielding", I will take a dropped ball or two a season as just about perfect for me.

I would like to see a cpu outfielder not have the omnipotence to know how a ball will carom off the wall at the most quirky angle possible, and field it on one hop from the perfect position, and throw out my base runner on what is obviously an extra base situation. I'll take a misplay or two as part of the programming over trying to force error percentages to be more realistic by taking over the animations.

      Any day of the week.

I've seen quite a few dropped fly balls, or better stated, mis-judged fly balls, but the game rules them as hits instead of errors. The animation doesn't indicate that the player lost the ball in the lights or the sun, but rather simply misplayed/mis-judged it.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

If misplayed balls or dropped balls that were my fault were counted as errors, my outfielders might actually have more errors than my infielders. A little off topic, but Carlos Pena got charged with an error on a misplayed ground ball.......in foul territory. Pretty sure that should not have been an error. I wish there were some sort of error override or scorer's decision on the game.

Re: First flyball error in over 200 games!!

Most of my errors or mis-plays come when i am trying to position myself with the arrow indicator thingy on a ball where a runner might tag up.

I am not sure if it is the Broadcast View that I am using, or if I just never read the directions correctly, but I do not know where to actually get my guy to in order for the "the guy is tagging up so I'll get into the correct spot to make a throw" animation to kick in.

I am either back too far and the ball bounces in front of me, or I get this animation where the outfielder catches it, but he reaches awkwardly for the ball in doing so.

Is there a method to the madness?

You haven't watch Brennan Boesch of the Tigers then. He makes the routine interesting. He's dropped at least 3 or 4 fly balls this year.

I should add that I don't care about seeing dropped fly balls in the Show. I'd much rather have too few than too many but they do happen from time to time.

From what I've found I think the tag up throw is related to your guy's fielding ability. I can get Michael Bourn at the end of the arrow and he will move up to catch it, but if I try that with Carlos Lee he just stands at the spot that I left him. I have to move a little more inside of the arrow to make a catch with him or any player with a lower fielding ability.

I saw my first OF flyball dropped a couple days ago. McLouth was standing perfectly still in center waiting for the ball to get there and when it finally does, it hits directly in the web of the glove and pops out. No problem with that, just the fact that the game scored it a hit, rather than an error. I can see the diving attempts where it comes out of the glove being scored a hit, but not one where the fielder is standing still as the ball comes down to him.
