Thanks for the writeup, Nem. I share many of your sentiments regarding collision detection at 2B and home plate.

I've seen the 2nd "issue" reference before - it's the animation where, in real-life baseball, if the 2B is covering 1B on a bunt, he'll sometimes secure the throw and then step on the bag with his left foot (as opposed to stretching with his right foot on the bag). I've seen this animation quite a bit, but I don't recall the runner ever being safe - I'm not claiming the poster is incorrect, just that I don't recall a runner ever being called safe.

I'm looking forward to analog fielding and the emphasis it'll place on the user to make accurate throws using the right stick.

Nem, as far as the tiered animations go (for defense), on edited/created rosters will the different tiers be automatically assigned to a player according to how we rate them defensively? After reading your writeup, I'm thinking that's right but wanted to double-check.

i think it's a matter of how close the ball is to the first base line.

like if the catcher fields a ball a couple inches from the line, there's no way he's going to try to throw OVER the batter-runner, the first baseman will take a few steps off the bag to give the catcher a clear target. Happens all the time

In theory it should work that way. I did not create any players when we were there so I am not 100% sure.

Errors are still also tied to player ratings from what I've read. So it's a combo of both user and ratings.

Is there an actual formula for the tiered ratings? Like once u get to 90+ rating u will definitely receive special animations. But guys at 69 ratings get nothing?

No....it's not all or nothing from what I understand.

This my wording....just for explanation purposes

Say a guys is only a 40 at fielding.....he has 100% chance to access the "stone" fielding animations....a 60% chance to access the "bronze" fielding animations....a 20% chance to access the silver fielding animations and a 5% chance to access a "gold" animation.....depending on your jump on the ball...how well you play the ball and line yourself up let's say.
At 60 fielding...those chances increase...at 80 increase again...and so on up the ladder.
You are not assured of or locked out any animations at any level.....it's all based on your rating for the % chance and your actual play to access those plays.

                    Nemesis, great write-up.

                    Two questions:

You mentioned diving was still challenging this year. Considering that I never actually successfully dove for and caught a ball in the outfield in 10', were you actually ever able to achieve this with your limited time with the game? Were their any indicators to help with outfield diving?

I'm an auto field guy (see above). I realize that you probably didn't use this feature, but you did see the CPU field. Are the new fielding ratings noticeable on the CPU end? In other words, if I use Auto Field again this year, do you think I will be missing out on the new fielding improvements (slower jumps, bad throws, tiered animations, etc). A lot of the fielder stuff I've read mentions how mistakes and jumps on balls are MORE (or in some cases, absolutely) in the user's hands. How does this translate to the CPU fielders? Similarly?

Could this possibly work for commentary in a couple years, put a create-your-own-commetary feature. Here is how it would work. You find voices of commentators, from real life and upload them into the game, for certain situations. Like say it was walk-off in the 9th inning, find the voice of your commentator for that situation, upload it into the game, and add it to that situation.

This is a working idea for me so if sounds a little off that's my fault. So, what you guys think?

Yea, I figured but I realized this after 3 years of listening to Matt V., I cant take it anymoe I need Gary Matthews! Also, there would be 3 voices for each option so it isn't the same thing everytime but then theres always a possiblity for a long silence, unless you upload a whole conversation, or you could ust keep the regular Show 3 in but it would be weird to go from say a Phillies Broadcaster to Matt V.

Any chance to see the updated scoreboard at U.S. Cellular Field? Didn't make it last year.

Also, the past few years the Black alternate shirt for the White Sox had an issue with one of the sleaves, with a white line showing up, any news on that getting fixed.
I will see you at THE SHOW!!

Just a more general question about the series ...

Is there any way to change how a player's skills are rated aside from just those yellow bars? Maybe it's just me, but I don't find it as useful as other games that actually use a number or a letter maybe to rate a player. I also find it hard to compare players when you just have to kind of take a mental picture of how filled one guy's bar is compared to someone else's. It would be great if the bars were colour coded to give more of an indication.

However, maybe I'm just missing something and there's another way to evaluate the players that I'm not thinking of ...

                                Well...
There is the letter grades on the player cards for the various areas of play.(These are all in relation to the MLB level....minor league players also...comparing them to MLB players and if they played there at at that time)
Or if you just want to compare two players...the editor does have numbers for each attribute.
