Good thing I peeked my head into this thread, I'll be permanently switching over to timed hitting as well after giving it a run. I can hit OK (just ok) with analog but it just became too stressful for me. It takes a lot of focus and concentration and it got to be frustrating at times. I'm honestly just enjoying the game so much more with timed.

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
For the home run issue that the OP was having, make sure you have strike zone on so you have hot zones enabled. Otherwise, I think your hitters will cover the entire plate with equal skill in each area, which will lead to your power guys cranking home runs even on pitches they don't handle well in real life.
I refuse to use the contact swing, it almost guarantees contact. Otherwise, playing on All-Star with classic controls and timing hitting has been great so far, but my game always feezes in the 3rd inning. I have no idea what's wrong.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
No it's not a display issue. Turning strike zone off disables hot zones, so hitters will hit well in all parts of the plate with it off, the two are intertwined.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
Damn, you're right, it clearly states that when you highlight the option.
That's stupid. Guess I'm turning strike zone back on. I don't like any clutter on the screen when I'm batting, but I suppose it's alright because hot zones are absolutely needed.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 03-11-2011, 10:43 PM.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
Yes it works differently than last year. I did not want it on because i thought it would constantly show the strike zone whereas last year you could put it on "fade" so it disappears when the pitch is thrown.
This year, with it on, it automatically fades which I was very relieved to see, if it stayed on it would be too easy to hit. But you will see in the menus that turning the strike zone off disables hot zones as well. So you need it on if you're going for sim like results.
I think this setting is absolutely essential if you are using timing hitting, I have been getting very realistic results so far.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
Yeah, I'm playing in my RTTS and I'm liking that it fades out at the right time. It gives you a nice frame of reference, but goes away when it needs to so you can focus on the pitch.
I was wondering why my newly created player was getting such good contact always. Now I'm struggling like I should be.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 03-12-2011, 12:11 AM.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
After reading ALL these posts...... Is everyone JUST pressing the buttons... NO stick use at all, not even to influence a flyball? I'm not getting any air time with my hits, just ground balls. Now I am using all-star for hitting and pitching. Speaking of all-star..... what does that do for hitting as oppposed to the other levels, esp since I'm using "timed hitting". I remember in the previous years , anything higher than rookie involved "contact and power" buttons , as well as using the left stick to swing in the Zone. Does anyone use the R stick to influence a flyball in "timed hittting"? Does it even work this year?............. Basically I'm needing some help. I basically hit on rookie in 08 and 09 and used the the R stick for hit influence(to me it seemed to help hitting hr's....... or was it just coincidence?). I'm not getting that same feeling this year... should I be adjusting sliders? I'm not wanting an arcade , hit a ton of hr's type of game, but I'm not wanting to hit nothing but ground balls either.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
I noticed that as well. In the wish list thread I'm asking for analog with timing only (rock down and up; no left/right placement of the RS).Man there is a ton of miss information in this thread let me try and clear this up.
Timing option- It's pretty basic we took rookie and veteran hitting from last year and broke it out completely to its own mechanic. In timing hitting only your timing is used everything is is calculated based on player ratings. PCI is still there it drives the entire hitting engine. So player A has a 85 contact/72 power rating this stays the same no matter what you do. Unless you use contact or power swing that is.
This option is very timing centric with a very very heavy weight on the batters attributes. Power, Contact, Plate Vision, and Plate Discipline.
Its the easiest option to bat this year.
Zone PCI option- This mechanic is a two step process its timing centric based on your input when you swing. However unlike the timing only option you must control the players PCI its not calculated for you. You do this by moving the L analog stick (PCI) over the ball. Don't move it to the ball and you won't make solid contact. Contact and Power ratings are still the driving force as the Contact and Plate Vision ratings drives the size of the players PCI. Your Contact/Power ratings do not change unless you use the other swing types. Just like timing you can select contact, power, and regular swing.
Pure Analog option- This option is a uses the R analog stick and is very timing and swing spot centric. You must rock the R analog stick back to stride and rock it forward to swing. Your stride timing will cause the PCI to shrink and grow. The last part of the mechanic is you need to swing Right, Left, and Center. To closer you are to swinging at the pitch the better your contact bonus. In this mode Plate Discipline, Plate Vision and your swing timing determines the PCI high and low. It's all rooted in baseball logic.
In this option a players contact and power ratings will go up and down depending upon your stride timing and contact timing.
Now one possible issue we are looking at is the PCI placement in swing analysis maybe a little jumpy. Also I just found out today we shot the Analog hitting tutorial very very early before we changed the mechanic to where you have to swing at the pitch Left, Right, and Center.
I'm a little late to this party, but you guys have me intrigued with timing only. I've been struggling on HoF analog (default) and may kick it back down to AS before I give timing a shot.
I do, however, like that my stride timing will contribute to the contact/power of my batter. I'm not reading that as "every perfect stride will result in Herculean type power." I see perfect stride timing boosting your players attributes. I'm not hitting gonna hit a moon shot with Nyjer Morgan if my stride is perfect, but I may with Zimmerman/Werth. I still feel analog allows the player's attributes to play a significant role in the outcome of the at bat.
Are you guys seeing a good hit variety? Does it feel, as Russ states above, simplistic? Do you feel rewarded when you make good contact? I'm working for another couple hours, otherwise I'd just give it try in BP.Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
I used that cam in my last game and had the best hitting game thus far (5 runs on 10 hits), but that was using the analog batting mechanic. I'm trying each batting mechanic out for 5 games or so to see what works best for me.XBL Gamertag: hoos4974

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
Anybody else hitting too MANY homers on HOF using timing hitting?? Started a season with the Brewers (skipped ST games). All default settings for hitting except pitch speed down 1 click, CPU strike freq. down 2 clicks and pitch control down 1 click. Hit 2 homers in the first game at Cincy and lost 4-3. The second game I hit 9 homers (including 3 in a row), got 14 hits and won 13-7. Weeks, Fielder (2), Braun (2), Hart, McGehee, LuCroy and even Gallardo all hit homers. I always use the "X" button with all htting aides off. I realize it is just 2 games, but a little concerned nonetheless. The next game I tried Legend and quickly discovered I'm not ready for hat level yet - but I was hitting on Legend last year. THanks for your inputComment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
I know this is of topic but do I need to use "Strikezone and Hot Zones" on or off? I currently have both on. Not really sure what difference it makes. Thanks in advanceThe poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

Re: Talking 'Timing hitting'
It really is a matter of personal preference. I find them distracting to be honest. If you have a good mental visualization of the strike zone I would say you do not need it. I would like if they gave us an option of having the H/C zone show up initially when the batter gets in the box and then disappear for the remainder of the at bat. More for pitching purposes rather then hitting.“The saddest part of life is when someone who gave you your best memories becomes a memory”Comment
