Re: Analog pitching: anyone else getting lit up?

    Its official!
Im back to meter pitching. Tried at every difficulty level with analog and I just dont get it! Was fun trying at first but realized im not too thrilled with it.
I gotta say that the other game has got the edge on the analog pitching system.
The only thing I get from the analog pitching system is that its HARD!
I can never line up the ball.
I'll probably get chewed out for this but, scea needs to copy the other game's system in order for me to enjoy analog pitching.
Just dont see me ever going back to the current analog system.
I switched back to meter and it was like seeing an old friend again.
I still ended up losing 6-1 though.
Other than that this game is Great.

I had no idea where the ball was going. Tried it for about 4 games, no real control. Would stop on the descend about 1/2 the time.

      Back to meter.

I'm doing pretty well on veteran difficulty.

Fter giving up 13 hits in the 2nd inning AND 5 in a row in the 3rd.....I have HAPPILY moved away from Analog Pitching.....Played on VET BTW.

I just dont like the analog mechanics in THE SHOW honestly. The throwing feels "OFF" and not as responsive as the buttons when fielding and the HItting with Analog makes it MUCH harder, which isnt bad, and will probably go with it after a while.

But i have ZERO desire to even give Analog pitching any more time, i just dont like it. The meter is still perfectly fine with me.

Wow how funny is this thread? Half the guys hate analog pitching because it's too hard and the other half are frustrated that they don't throw enough balls and it's too easy to locate your pitches. Interesting.

Re: Analog pitching: anyone else getting lit up?

I like the analog pitching. My biggest problem is getting the pitch height. Take the baseball icon out and just give the player a white line so they can see accurately how far their above or below the proper height. The other thing is tuning of the analog pitch meter if you miss the optimal height by a smidge in either direction that ball just seems to take off on you.

Re: Analog pitching: anyone else getting lit up?

For those having troubles with the Analog Pitching, are you holding the R-stick down the entire time your pitcher is going through his wind up, and then pushing forward after the ball reaches the white line, and then attempting to hit the ball icon?

Or are you using it like the old golf meter by pushing down and letting it go before the pitcher actually gets to the height of his windup?

I played around with the meter the other day and if you do not keep the stick pulled down to the 6 o'clock for the entire windup and motion from the set, the ball will go all over the place, with no control. If you keep the stick pulled back, and only after the ball touches the white release line, you push it forward, you can paint corners, put a tail on the 2-seamer... It actually gives you a great deal of tweaking you can purposely put on the ball.

If you want to make sure you keep that ball down to Ortiz, Hamilton, Pujols... guys that normally will punish you badly, then keep the R-stick pulled back a fraction of a second longer and wait for the marker to go down below the "perfect release" mark, your pitcher will then release the ball late, and the ball stays down. Likewise, if you want to hump up that fastball up in the zone, and want to make sure if you miss, you definitely miss up, start the push back towards the target a bit too soon, right above the release marker, and that will be letting go of the ball a little early, and therefor the ball stays up.

Doing this with a curveball has consequences that typically result in watching the ball go really far, but by using the release points, and the aiming mechanism, you can get some extra movement on the ball that is a direct result of your input, not a player rating or an arbitrary algorithm..

Good luck, hope it helps for those struggling.

Re: Analog pitching: anyone else getting lit up?

i found analogue pitching a sensation in the demo. its TOTALLY down to you now unlike meter, which feels a bit hit or miss and random.

people who are saying your pitches are always off either dont understand how to use the mechanic, or are have technique trouble when its comes to controlling the right analogue stick.

but for me its not too easy, its just very rewarding, and when you hit a corner with a perfect pitch it feels BEAUTIFUL.

for me this mechanic is MUCH better than mlb 2k11, i played 2k11s demo tons, and honestly the pitching mechanic is a bit bloated, doesn't have any feel or subtetly to it. probably due to the inferior animations and physics as well, but in my opinion the new analogue pitching is the best feature the series has introduced since the road to the show.

Re: Analog pitching: anyone else getting lit up?

I love the analog pitching but I hate staring at meters - takes me out of the immersion of the game. So I shrunk that meter down as much as possible and placed is as far into the upper left as I could, turned the sliders for control and consistency up to 8 on All Star level.

Now I'm just pitching by feel and not worrying about hitting white lines with a descending baseball. It really does capture some of the core mechanics of pitching pretty well - trying to maintain a consitent rhythm and release point, maintaining arm slot, etc.

Moreso than hitting or fielding, I feel like the analog controls are working best for the pitching game.

i loved analog pitching when i first started using it, but i expected to get better with it after awhile. i've played a couple games, and i've given up 5-8 runs every game. for whatever reason, i can't get the ball where i want it, i throw a lot of balls just outside the corner, and i miss with a lot of meatballs. the only good thing is i can throw the 12-6 curve better than meter.

i went back to meter without touching anything else and i've had 19 k's in the last 2 games and only 3 earned runs. i might have to turn up the difficulty if this persists, but it's clear meter has made a huge difference and i'm loving that i have more control with it.

Again, it is simply a function of what YOU want in the game.

Honestly, if I was striking out 19 guys in two games, and giving up 3ER, I would be bored and feel like the game was too easy.

Personally, just as I struggled mightily with the Analog Hitting, but forced myself to understand what i needed to do and finally feel comfortable doing it, I would rather have to work at the game, and reap the rewards and the satisfaction of making the adjustments.

For others, tuning the game to have 10-run hitfests and perfect games and 15 strikeout games is where they would rather see their game be...

So again, to each his own, but I would rather work at something and get better at it than shut it off and feel like the game beat me.

That is the key right there. I figured this out a few days ago after watching the tutorial movie.

You have to aim your right stick (when you push up) to wherever your left stick is aimed.

I have to say, not relying on the API has really helped me, so much so that I've moved up to HOF difficulty. I'm getting a good amount of walks (this is huge b/c I like to pitch around certain guys in the CPU's lineup. If they swing at junk, that's great but I'm not giving them meatballs like the API will suggest) and I can still get a realistic number of strikeouts. I may have to lower the Solid Hits slider a click or two b/c I am seeing too many hard-hit balls on pitchers' counts, but otherwise, I'm happy with the results.

I may do the same with the solid hits. Not positive, but I'm leaning in that direction too.
