    Are you manually running to the bag using the left stick? If so, as an FYI, you can hold the base button/direction to make the fielder run to the base, once within a certain distance.

      Not preloading your throw will also cause a delay, as well canceling the throw by starting a second one. I've now learned to avoid both of those problems fairly well, although I'm finding that on some preloads, I'm still holding the throw too long (I use analog throwing), when I just need a flip.

        Are you hitting the button (or pushing the analog stick if that's your setting) to throw to first, or are you trying to run the first baseman to the bag yourself?

          Yes, those throws are meant to branch from specific catches that the pitcher will make on "come-backers" with no one on base. Those catches really should be used when there are already runners on, but if they are, then the selection of those throws will need to be restricted. In the meantime if you know that you want a fast throw from the pitcher in a this type of situation, do not preload your throw. If you wait a bit, you can utilize the "throw ready" (set throw) branch which are much faster. Alternatively, you could press the left analog stick in the direction of the base to which you want to throw, and just as you branch into a run, initiate your throw then. You'll end up using a "running throw which is also very fast (I do this quite often in many other situations in the infield just as a personal style of play).

            Ill post a video when I can. are you saying there is not a "quick throw" preload animations for pitchers? somthing similiar to the catcher quick throw animation on bunts out in front of the plate?

              yeah I got the pump mixed up when I made my thread cause I was pissed off. it was just the slow down, which for an outfielder pretty much equals the pitcher pumping before the throw. it resulted in a guy being safe at 2nd when he should have been out by a mile.

                It's too bad there isn't a fielding practice mode (not RTTS-style), especially with the new analog controls, so that people can work out all the kinks and get familiar with all these branching/animation combos before needing to during a game.

                  There are...just certain catches can branch to these casual throws.

                    It's time you take stock of the game situation. The fact that your defense is making mistakes may not be related to your skill with the controller, but rather your lack of awareness of the current scenario and those forth-coming.

                        I dont even know what that means. It wasnt a defensive mistake. It wasnt anything the "scenario" brought on. It was a bloop just out of my first basemans reach and my outfielder slowed his run down to a snails pace when he approached the ball. The animation slowing down didnt have anything to do with the "scenario".

                          Here is an example where I forced a hurry up animation by approaching the ball in an arc fashion and preloaded the throw. Runner was tagged out at third on a one hop throw.

                            Nice one. I threw a runner out at the plate in my RTTS the other night, my first assist. Did it the same way, charged straight in and preloaded the throw.

                            I saved it, but I'm at work at the moment, so I can't post the video. But yours should give the OP the idea anyway.

                              the video isnt the same scenario as what happened to me. the video is more of a proof of stupid baserunning than good fielding. the guy hadnt even got to 2nd yet when swisher fielded the ball but decided to go to 3rd anyways lol.
