Good news. Played the Orioles today, 3-2 bottum 9. Bring in Robertson for first two outs, bring in Mo for one out. I gave him a rising fastball, got to roll over from Weiters. All is well.

Mariano is very hittable in MLB The Show - umm yes, it's BB...so the game makers are suppose to create special players who can never do wrong..no matter how someone may have control on them...wow, kinda sounds like the conspiracy of the CPU decides the outcome of the game and nothing anyone can do to change an outcome..I certainly don't want to play a BB simulation like that...but maybe make a list and request there's special players that can have no flaws.

What in the world are you talking about? "umm yes, it's BB?" That's your answer to why Mariano is hittable in The Show? Well, it's still "BB" in real life and Mariano is not very hittable in reality!

And where did I ever say that the game creators should make special players that can do no wrong? The Show is a baseball simulation and players should be expected to perform relatively close to their real-life counterparts as long as the player controlling him knows what he/she is doing. This is not the case with Mariano. Even in simulated games, he tends to blow games and have a high ERA.

What are you not understanding about this?

with mo i usually have a low era but high whip cuz he allows alot of hits

i also HIT him real well

hes not gunna be unhittable but he is one of the better closers in the game
he has high attributes and cutter movement which is why i get alot of foul balls pitching with him but i hardly throw a fb or 2seamer i get good results with cutter

but yes it is bb so every closer is gunna blow a save every once a while

its not like the show automatically makes him have 123 inning every time

The advice of adding a slider to Rivera's pitch selection does make sense, but that got lost in the shuffle of all the back-and-forth personal attacks.

To the OP, I feel for you in regards to struggling with Rivera. I had similar issues last year when I used the Rockies; both Betancourt and Street were horrible for me and I would blow many a game because the CPU just made solid contact on everything I threw at them, regardless of location.

Hopefully, you find a solution.

Ok...I'll use the advice someone else came up with as to why this may happen for you specifically. You lack in some sort of baseball knowledge and/or your gaming skills are not too good. There is a Practice mode to utilize and can change difficulties and such to whatever works for you...but it is a 'you' problem more so than the programming in the game.

The reason could not possibly be the game itself or programming a special way (at least IMO), since I can attest I play at what is considered a difficult level, tend to have ~50% concentration going on playing the game at any given time, have what's considered much 'better' or low stats in those areas you posted and with much lower rated players and even higher rated players. So I don't think it has anything to do with the game or how a specific player is defined in the game due to programming...again, IMO, I don't know for certain.



Apparently you are selctive in your reading and 'fly off the handle' at any assumption you desire to create. Possibly, the example was given so one may have a IRL example as to where someone had a belief or strong opinion where the appearance is the programming in the game alone or accounted for a large result due to programming alone...for example, "Is this how the greatest relief pitcher EVER is treated".

I even posted a 'simple' definition of the word hypocrite...obviously there is serious lack of understanding of that term w/ the following...and look at your 1st response..it has nothing to do w/ the video game and quite possibly, only posted to 'stir up trouble'.



I definitely would like to see exactly where I stated I thought "Rivera sucks"...or maybe it's an issue with reading and comprehension...or simply, a 'you' problem.

I did not realize you get to determine that this is YOUR Thread and only certain people that you see fit can respond as well as rules to how they respond. Also, that response was ONLY for you, that no one else could possibly be helped in any way in a similar situation. Maybe next time you start a Thread, just state all the rules in which to reply as well as who can actually reply.

If your reading and compression levels had any sort of significance for the basic understanding on 'simply' constructed sentences, you would have read that adding a Slider to the pitch selection may be helpful..not that you had to, that it was the best or only suggestion, etc...it was an idea for someone who asked for some sort of help and/or understanding. And for certain, you know for a fact that he has never thrown a Slider..and the opinion that no one should do anything of the sort...of course...ohhh, and the Slider designation in the game, has a 'drop' or vertical decline with a horizonal break..very similar to how Rivera throws the Cutter IRL at times...that's why it makes sense...the Cutter in the game has an obvious horizontal break and no designation for a vertical break....so there's that.

One might have the opinion that when a question such as the following is asked in a Thread..."A list for 40-man rosters...Does anyone have one in excel"...that a somewhat detailed response was given as to where to find an excel version, then a response of:



...is not so helpful or even answers the question...one may even decide that simply answering "No" would have just as useful...but that's an opinion.

One might believe that any individual should not receive high school level accreditation for not having the understanding between facts and opinions...or even opinions based on facts. Maybe even have some sort of limits on posting information on a social networking website. But that might be someone's opinion, the basic fact is that anyone can get such accreditation as well as post on a website w/o that 'simple' understanding.

The funny thing is that you called me condescending. You're looking at all my posts and trying to use them to make me look like I'm a rude and a terrible person. I answered the persons question with how I find the 40 man on my iPhone. Was I misleading or rude? No sir.

Thank you, I don't like the idea of Rivera with a slider. Jason_19 from OSFM Variation Sets thread implemented a splitter which I found interesting but didn't go with. I just went with the rising fastball. Changed top speed on it to 93, 2-seam to 91, cutter to 89. First game worked but we will see.

I never said I want him to be perfect. If you read the original post I have struggled through 2 seperate video games with Mo.

1) Please show me where I stated that my personal belief (or opinion) is that he is the best / worst (or Rivera sucks) or whatever type of pitcher/player? I stated nothing of the sort and just included facts in statements. You can take anything you want out of context and such to do so...I have no doubts that's a strong possibility, since it's already happened.

2) I honestly hoped I could come up with some sort of retort or use some sort of relevant example to possibly educate someone or people that the idea of obtaining an opinion (or belief) from certain facts does not always have to be in the agreement of mass or popular thought...and most importantly, may not be the 'right' opinion.

Maybe somewhere there is a great example where say even over ~1 Billion individuals believed something to be so completely true, based on certain facts, they even might live their own life to such guidance. That maybe there's a ~billion here and ~ a billion there that have completely different opinions..and yet, no one knows for an absolute certain if they are correct...they just believe it to be true, and individuals will sometimes just accept it's their choice to have an opinion / belief in something, based on facts. Maybe just 1 person comes along and takes certain facts and believes what over ~1 billion do not...it still does not change the simple fact, it's an opinion based on facts.

Rivera, as a default player, is given ONLY 3-fastball type pitches as far as I'm aware (4S ; 2S ; and Cutter)...they are ALL similar speeds, again, as far as I'm aware. How hard is that to understand?! Next time I will attemp to make a statement that is complete with 1-syllable words, ok?..or do I need to include every possible way to state the same thing, just to make sure everyone can understand it?!

When did I ever say anything contrary to what you said above? I understand why Rivera in The Show is a lot different than Rivera in reality. When did I ever say I did not understand it? My first response in this thread was aimed towards the topic creator simply stating that I have the same struggles with Rivera. Then you chose to write an 800-word essay in reply to me, which for some reason you deleted.

"not very hittable in reality"..what is this exactly...or what's the word I'm looking for?!...I gave an IRL example and got 'blasted' for doing so. IRL the guy has ~60 losses in his career as well as blown saves..a career WHIP of ~1.0...obviously someone at some time 'hit' his pitches or at least took some walks...he doesn't even have the record for consecutive scoreless innings or consecutive saves w/o blowing it.

When people say a pitcher is "unhittable" in baseball does not literally mean he cannot be hit! Did you really think I meant that he is perfect, never gives up hits and walks, never losses and never blows saves? Come on now. You took the words 'hittable' and 'unhittable' literally just for the sake of arguing.

Again, you did not appear to accept the intial discussion, nor did you reference it in your reply that stated something to the effect "what do you not understand about what is happening?"...you did not appear to accept either method of explaning an idea as well as the possibility that maybe the successes and failures in the game, may have more to do with yourself and not a programming problem...that in BB, just about anything can happen at any time...if you are not able to follow thoughts and/or explanations and then make statements to the contrary, that is a 'you' problem.

What the hell are you even talking about? Rob's first post was agreeing with the TC that Rivera gets hit too much in this game so he did accept the initial discussion. It's definitely more of the fault of the batting AI than the user as changing the CPU's timing is crucial to pitching well in this game, more so than in real life. The way the hitting system works does cause a pitch with a couple inches of late movement to be not as effective as in real life as the PCI is too big; if you perfectly center a pitch or you are just off a pitch with PCI location, you are still going to hit it hard so that late movement isn't very important in-game. Therefore, a dominant IRL 1-speed pitcher that depends on that subtle late movement is not going to be as dominant in the game. It's as simple as that, Rivera is the kind of pitcher this game can not faithfully recreate do to how the hitting system works along with the game's batting AI.

You just argue for the sake of arguing.

Vashyron, thank you. What you said is 100% correct and that's what everybody in this thread pretty much agrees on. If you don't vary speeds, eventually the AI will hit your pitcher. Since Mariano's three pitches are essentially the same speed, the AI will adjust quickly. Even when I'm hitting against Mariano, it's not difficult to hit him. There is no need to worry about offspeed stuff so I gear up for 92-94 and have perfect timing every swing.

For some reason, aktransplant is talking about Mariano blowing game 7 of the world series and how he has 57 career losses. Who cares about that and what does that have to do with The Show?! The fact is that in real-life Mariano is one of the most difficult pitchers to hit, in The Show he is not.

Yep, and I have been helped. I didn't realize that all 3 pitches at same speed helped the CPU but then again I never faced Rivera in this game, because I've always been the Yankees.

Has anyone altered Rivera's individual pitch speeds, or are people staying with the defaults? Not asking for speeds, just whether anyone has messed with Mo.
