Any talk of a one pitch mode to play games faster?

I think it's about time for Sony to implement this option.

Re: Any talk of a one pitch mode to play games faster?

Can anyone explain this to me a little better? I was always confused when people said "one pitch mode," because to me that implies that you only get one pitch per at-bat. Is that really true, or do you just mean they'll generate a pitch count for you somewhere between 0-0 and 3-2, and after that pitch if you're still in the at-bat, they'll generate another one between x-y and 3-2?

If so, I'm all for that. I only hope that means it will affect pitcher fatigue and that a lot of it is tied into the batter's attributes. It's a bit of a cause for concern when you plan on stealing a batter/putting on a hit-and-run, but I suppose some sacrifices have to be made for the sake of the option.

I would love it...especially for Manage only Mode, but I doubt it for '12.

This looks like the "results play" mode in RTTS. Perhaps the mechanism is there in the game already, but how it can be adapted for use in other modes like franchise, I don't know... Certainly would be a nice option.

I can see it now, how come AI is always ahead in the count when AB and when I'm at bat in behind in the count.

              Let me elaborate...

Let's say I come up to bat, and in that "one pitch" I take it for a strike. Did I strike out? Say I take it for a ball. Did I walk? Putting it into play is obvious, but what if I foul it off? Does the game just say, "Oh well, next batter." ?

Again... is it literally one pitch per batter, or do you just come up to bat with a generated pitch count? For example:

Rafael Furcal comes to the plate. Simulated count: 0-1. You take a pitch for a ball. Real count should be 1-1. Simulated count: 3-1. You put the ball in play.

So what happened here was the game generated a pitch count for me (0-1) and I got to see a pitch, which I took for a ball (1-1), then the game continued the at bat and generated a later count for me (3-1) in which case I put the ball in play.

Maybe next time I automatically start with a 3-2 count, who knows? I just didn't understand if this is what the OP meant.

Heh, I was just joshin' ya. You seemed to have explained it well enough. It's not "one pitch" mode so much as it's "many pitches less per game" mode.

Highheat 2003 had this option and pitcher fatigue still worked properly. Rather than one pitch mode it should have been called pre-determined count mode because quite often would take more than just one pitch to finish the at-bat. It was a great way to play the game though!

                    Nice.

I guess the other question I have about this mode is, does the at-bat ever finish for you, or are you always in control of its final pitch regardless? So say you're in an 0-2 count and you foul off a pitch, the game won't ever generate/simulate a strike three without your control, correct?

If so, that would kind of suck.

FPS Baseball Pro 98 was the only one-pitch mode I played. The way it worked is you could keep fouling pitches until you K'd or BB'ed.

I would also assume the game generates pitch counts according to a particular player's stats and abilities. For example, a player who K'd a lot would face a lot of generated 0-2, 1-2, counts, whereas someone with a good eye would see 3-0, 3-1 counts. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to have individual player stats.

Re: Any talk of a one pitch mode to play games faster?

This would have to be a lot different than a text-sim 1-pitch mode. In those games the CPU just shows that last pitch before the ball is put in play or there is an out.

What would be great is to play a game where I could decide when I wanted to take control of an at bat. For example, perhaps I only want to physically bat when I have 2 strikes against me, or when I have 3 balls. The I would play out the rest of the at bat. So if I went 0-2 I would have to work really hard to draw a walk, or if the count was 3-0 I could either give myself the green light or try to draw the walk.
Another could be if I only wanted to hit when the count was 3-1 so that I can just sit back and fire at a fastball for the big hit.

On top of that allowing us to choose which players we will hit for would be fantastic. I could choose to hit with the 3-4-5 batters and let the game playout the rest. Maybe that's in, there are just sooo many threads already. Hahaha

I have been an advocate for generated counts since the days of ASB '05

                          They had it perfect:

                          1-1
