    Ya know - I just can't agree with ya DS. People are down because franchise wasn't completely overhauled... I don't see how you can only focus on that and not see the improvements, going back to your original post.

    Even though I don't agree, I see what you're saying and understand though. We have talked about it ourselves to a large extent. Perhaps it is more that I am a gameplay guy and you're a franchise guy.

    Either way, there were some specifics to franchise this year that came from direct input. Hopefully you'll appreciate the changes because there is still a nice laundry list of things they can do...

      - New interface/menu layout = you may have a point on the in-game interface, but they have changed subtly. the menus have also changed over the years, some have even said that they have become more difficult to navigate.

      - Editing the fielding animations and timing for catches = this is a kind of a be careful what you wish for type of thing, kind of like I see the zone analog batting being this year, but they have looked into this and it was just too difficult outside of RTTS. They have considered it though, so it's not like they aren't looking to innovate/change. (if I'm not mistaken, they've already made RTTS fielding more manual in the current engine).

      - Something as simple as a new XMB/title screen song clip = that is the theme music for the game... kind of like Super Mario Bros., Tecmo Super Bowl, or any other game franchise. Are you looking for a Diddy remix? More cowbell?

      Come on dude. How about we get back to the thread instead of picking out suggestions you don't like. This isn't about me or my specific suggestions; I was only putting those out there as a response to Pared (re: things that we might expect to make the game feel fresh without rebuilding the entire game from scratch). That was the only point, and I'm sorry you missed it. Moving on...

        Heck....I'm a FRANCHISE guy and I can't agree.

        Sure...there is no "big ticket" item brought into franchise mode this year....but there were plenty of long standing problems that were taken care of. There were a bunch of little things added to enhance what is already a pretty deep franchise mode.
        All the features are there....just a few need fleshing out in new directions.
        for instance...

        -potential ratings
        -training
        -scouting(this could actually replace the potential)
        -draft(also would be kind of tied to scouting)

          I agree whole heartily with Knight here. Some of the "small" things that were fixed are going to make franchise a WHOLE new experience. By fixing these issues, it in turn affects other parts of Franchise an example is by rating A potential players higher it assigns more value to them in trades, which helps trade logic. 2012 issue has been addressed.

          This year players seem to actually regress which I believe is huge. No longer does a guy seem to hit .300 with 30 hr and retire.

          Little touches like front end menu and games behind screens are nice. The new trade screen is very cool. Being able to look through the log and be able to see transactions easily because of color tied to injuries and trades....

          Alot of under the hood things that I am excited about.

            About those things requiring them to scrap the engine and rebuild? Yes, I was being sarcastic. Again -- they're just misc things that, IMHO, would help the game feel new and fresh without blowing it up and rebuilding from scratch. That's all.

            I completely agree on the interface; was being sarcastic about not adding buttons; just read Ramone's explanation about fielding and understand what he's saying about hitting that balance between responsive controls and smooth animations; and yes, the theme could use some cowbell. Even Mario changed it up after awhile.

              Sure...there is no "big ticket" item brought into franchise mode this year....but there were plenty of long standing problems that were taken care of. There were a bunch of little things added to enhance what is already a pretty deep franchise mode.

              If the draft and scouting was similar to head coach 09 I would die. I loved how players were graded on tools and you couldn't uncover potential without putting massive hours into a guy. I still play head coach 09

                I'm not directing this at anyone specific, I intend it as a general reference to a lot of "normal" consumers ... but for those that do want change for the sake of change, that's why you get games with gimmicks that are cool for about 5 days.

                When a large quantity of consumers salivate at the visual of a buffalo running onto a football field pre-game, you end up with thousands of hours devoted to satisfy that thirst. Which, in reality, adds very little to the game itself beyond a marketable feature that increases sales.

                If something is working well, then the best bet are minor tweaks on a yearly basis. The more consumers beg for empty features that "look cool" the less time they spend cleaning up the core of the game.

                When a feature is broken, then yes it must be replaced. But what, in The Show, can you say that about. I say nothing. Nothing is broken. Sure, the commentary is stale and needs some tweaking. But be careful what you ask for and understand the collateral affects.

One we tired it last year and while it was fun in the outfield it made fielding in the infield extremely difficult and not fun.                         This year you have more control over your fielders than last year, making it the third straight year we have improved the game in that area. The catch rings that lock you into catch animations based on player attributes and the angle you take to the ball has been shrunk again. Thus opening up more dive and slide catching opportunities and giving the user more control.

                        A catch button well we added that to this year for the move and tried it out for the regular game. Didn't work so well again infield play was all but impossible if you had to catch the ball then throw it. There wasn't enough time for a human to do both and keep the game balanced. So it was removed.

                        We now have a dynamic catch system where every catch can not only be dropped but bobbled and player ratings, the catch animation, and the user's input all plays a factor in the new catch system.

                        There are also to other major additions that effects fielding, baserunning, and on base collisions.

& Vita) Players will now know where they and other players are on the field and understand when to avoid other players and how to react when other players are near.Although this sounds like a relatively simple concept, but it’s very important and makes the game experience feel more true to life.

                        ¨ New Tag Animation System (PS3 & PS Vita) Players can now branch out of any tag throw animation and branch out of a tag animation to avoid it. There are also more animations and ways to tag runners out at the plate. This new system allows for more results (dropping the ball, new swipes, etc.) and the addition of new standing and run down tags, which creates a more dynamic and organic player integration on the base paths and at the plate.

                        Those two additions along with the new ball physics, the over 300 new fielding and baserunning animations,the ability to drop or bobble any catch, jump catch balls off the wall, new take out slides, and the re-tooled fielding ratings (default speed and reaction time is now lower across the board). Has created the most organic play results this franchise has ever seen.


                        So to say that the fielding part of the game has remained the same is well just completely non true.
                        Hey Ramone, those additions sound great, and thank you for the in-depth explanation. I'll take a wild guess that your game has a FEW more animations than High Heat 2002 did , so the difference in control definitely makes sense. Sounds like "full control" manual fielding is just something I'll have to let go of for this franchise... but I'm happy to hear about at least having MORE control this year. The smaller catch area alone (not locking into the animation so early) will go a long way toward improving the outfield control; that by itself has probably been my biggest issue for awhile so that's great to hear.

                        I don't mean to say the fielding has remained the same or that you guys haven't made improvements to it. I certainly recognize that you have. I've worked with sports game developers in the past and the work you do is not lost on me. I appreciate the job you guys have done and keep buying the game every year; I would not be able to go back from '11 to any of its predecessors. I'm sure it will be the same with '12 (or from the sounds of the fielding and physics, maybe even more so). So all I meant was that compared to the rest of the game and especially the fantastic pitcher/batter duel, the fielding hadn't made as large of strides or as noticeable changes over the years. But any changes and updates are welcome, and I look forward to trying all the fielding improvements you listed in '12.

                            I like the commentary personally, other than Campbell but I don't really care for him personally (he makes me tired lol)

                            Now Russell might know this, but a couple of things I've wondered. It seems like in any video game once I get like 10 years into a franchise (yes I sim a lot) and a bunch of real life guys retire, that's when the commentary gets stale. Is there anyway that the audio could track a player.
                            For example: Let's say I have John Doe who has won multiple MVPs and just switched teams (ala Pujols), there never seems to be the audio que of

                            Matt saying "Doe just signed with Boston after winning, back to back MVP's with Miami"
                            then eric comes in with " When ever you get you a player of Doe's caliber you're a contender"

                            So you have audio blanks of player name and city to city where player signed in the script and in game it can fill the voids in. Is there anyway of doing that? anyone know of that?

                            Because that's where I think where all game commentary gets old, is when you get deep into franchises with the fake players.

                              I agree. I'm in 2016 in mine, I still have many real p,ayers, but I have some fake(in the game) but real players in the minors for the mets that have had really nice years and they same then same things over and over about them.

                                Man, some people actually need to sit down and work with C++ or something. Stuff isn't easy. The commentary at this point is fine. I don't think you can expect commentary to be perfect these guys don't sit around an office for 3 years straight saying lines into a microphone. And really, I thought we were all about realism in this game. Real players cannot hear the commentary. HAHA. Joke. But true. Turn it off if it's that bad.
