Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
Played it for a bit in West Hollywood last night.
New ball physics are going to make waiting for your pitch extremely important in having successful at bats and hard hit balls. I thought SD SCEA did a great job of this last year, but omparing the two years, I think '11 will prove to be the easier year to hit. I'm going to guess there is going to be a ton of comments of how hitting is too hard this year.
Pulse pitching is a game changer - I threw 5BB with Mike Leake (CIN) in the first inning. I pitched 4 innings and threw 6BB all together, so even after I adjusted to the new method, I was still throwing out of the zone. In another game with Kershaw (LAD) I threw 1BB in 4 innings of pitching. It's well implemented.
The game is familiar, but the two items mentioned above are enough for me to purchase the game. Can't wait to get my paws on it to really see more of the changes and play DD.Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
Checked it out on my lunch break today. The lighting is most definitely one of those "Wow" moments as you first start playing.....I mean it's just perfect.
The default hitting camera looks really good, I may not have to change it at all. The TBP stuff is great, it's that kind of attention to detail that changes a sports game from good to great.
I'll be getting both the PS3 and Vita versions, looking forward to it. If every sports game on the market had the attention to detail that this one has, I'd buy them all.Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
Id like to commend Russell and the whole Sony crew on MLB the Show 12. As they know, I havent been the biggest advocator of this series over the years. Im always bitchin and moaning about something like
-different Managerial sliders that make each team play slightly differently
-Adding a Franchise History or Almanac section to allow players to view each seasons data, stats, playoff seedings, scores, standings, milestones, etc
-Franchise and Player Creator Importer
-More Retro Uniforms
-More Varied and physics based animations
-Newer more refreshing Commentary team
-Factoids and Stat Tibit Overlays throughout the game
Even tho they havent included these features....YET, I still have to take my hat off to their hard work and efforts. I think this series has been a steady improvement over the years. Despite the fact that sometimes, I found some of the changes from each year a bit too subtle for my liking....they have been improvements to the game!
And the fact that this year they really focused on really improving the on field immersion and experience even moreso for the gamer has me very excited! I like what I have read about reading the ball better, hitting has a better feeling of contact or weight to the ball, and the new physics will add a whole new level of dynamic variety to the balls put in play to make each at bat a little different and free of that "DEJA VU" feel of seeing the same thing for the upteenth time......
I know its all heresay at this point from a few Best Buy quick impressioners who may just be rich with new version testosterone in their bloodstream, but it may also just be a result of a great new set of subtle features that expand on the playability of this great series. Im hoping its the latter!
Either way.....kudos to you RUssell and Sony crew for your efforts, keen eye and great sense of interpreting the things that make the difference in an average baseball game and a truly authentic one.
I hope MLB 12 brings it home!
I was also just wondering if by any chance that this year's game allows you to IMPORT CREATED PLAYERS from last year's game? (or any other versions)
I do know that it was mentioned that you cannot Import previous FRANCHISE SAVEs but was wondering about Created Players from last year's game? I have a ton of em that I dont really want to have to recreate....Any easy way to copy them over this year?
thanksComment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
To add to what knight said...I had no idea how one change could impact saves. While at cd after a newer build was given the old saves no longer worked.Comment

Hit into a triple play at Best Buy today. Was funny because the Yankees actually hit into a 5-4-3 TP the last series of the year also @ Tampa Bay in real life.
They weren't kidding when they said they would work on animation urgency!Last edited by applesauce; 03-02-2012, 05:34 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
I wanted to wait, but I caved and went to Best Buy and played a game. Yankees vs. Mariners. I started Pineda and breezed through the 1st inning with 2 K's, but that's because the pitching was set to Rookie and using the "Classic" mechanic of old. For the 2nd inning, I bumped it up to All Star and tried Pulse Pitching. Wow, I LOVED it! It's a challenge indeed. After getting a ground out to start the inning, I fell behind the next hitter 3-1 and grooved a fastball that was blasted into the seats. I ended up walking the next three hitters and then giving up a sac fly, but escaped further damage.
I had Noesi starting for the Mariners and he ended up going 8 scoreless. My timing is WAY off. I kind of treated the game like a Spring Training game after the 2nd inning because I wanted to see pitching motions. I brought in Hughes, then Nova, Koruda, Joba, Soriano, Sabathia and finally Mariano in the 9th.
I ended up losing 7-2. The new presentation additions make a world of difference. I love the cut-aways to the pitchers every now and then. So awesome. The new ball physics are noticable right away. After about an hour with the game, I just made the wait until March 6th much harder than it was just a few hours ago!
For my part I'll resist the BB urge, I just want the first impression to be on my big screen at home. Thanks to your review I'll bump to the pitch diff to allstar + pulse. Cheers.Comment

Re: MLB 12 playable at Best Buy
So I just got back from best buy, having played the game for the first time.
This IS the game I've been waiting for my whole life. It is baseball, the sea team has captured what baseball looks, feels and sounds like. Thank you scea. It feels like a huge step up from last year. Thanks again.Comment
