Alright. I finally was able to play a game! I picked this up along with Mass Effect 3 last night after my sons ball game and was too wiped out. So this morning I woke up early, installed the 10G option (do this!) and watched the awesome intro!
So I went ahead and folled around with pulse pitching in some practice. I realized right away I don't care for it. great idea....but it is too busy and takes away from my immersion. I love classic pitching....it's as simple as that. I play in broadcast view when I pitch and I love the organic and clean look as well as the ratings driven aspect. I love that SCEA understands that adding new controls is great, but do not take away what others love and are happy with. Something EA should learn with some of their sports titles.
So I went into the gameplay menu and set everything up just like I did for The Show 11 with the one exception of using the default batting view. I wanted to see how it looked and play with it for at least 5-6 games to see if it indeed is a big improvement. After one game I can say it is a major positive. Judgung the low pitches is much easier now on default.
All-Star timed hitting and classic pitching. I did not touch one single slider. And I won't till after getting at least 12-15 games as a sample size. I want to just play and feel everything out as I wait for both the OSFM and J.Meyers 1987 Full Minors set.
So my first and only game so far was Cubs at Marlins.
Right of the bat while just throwing my warm up pitches I already see, feel and hear the polish. If your a hardcore Show player (which most of us here are) the new glove sounds pop out. I love....just absolutely love the fact that this year you can clearly see the pitchers ball grips. What amazing attention to detail on that front. The ball spin is so clear now as well. Both when it is pitched and when you get the throw back from the catcher.
Josh Johnson gave up a lead off single and the ball physics jumped off the screen. This game is now on another level. I can't stress how much better The Show 12 is just for this fact alone. It is a total game changer and because of the life like ball physics we are playing a true game of virtual baseball. I saw a chopper up the middle, the trajectory of looping fly balls, foul balls....insane. Classic pitching is smooth and unchanged and just a joy as always.
At the plate Jose Reyes. I fall behind to Garza 0-2 and work the count to 3-2....I end up hitting an opposite field single after a 14 pitch battle in my first AB with The Show 12. This game is a dream.
I turned a silky smooth DP to end the 2nd inning. I am seeing and hearing things clearly. The feel of the ball off the bat feels so different now. Words cannot describe, nor give it justice. You have to play it yourself to understand the subtle yet monumental differences that the new ball physics and yes the new and revamped sound effects have brought to the table. I stroked a double in the gap with Mike Stanton and man it felt so sweet. Then I hit a dribbler with Infante and it felt like a weak off the handle hit. It feels so different!!!
SCEA......amazing job.
This is one game. But I already know. And once I start my Marlins Franchise with the OSFM I will report back all the great enhancements with commentary and OSD's in franchise.
If you were on the fence as I clearly was about holding off on The Show 12. Take the plunge. I felt 2011 was an amazing game.
It is not playable anymore. The only way I go back is if that 1987 roster set is not created again (come on JMeyers.....you can do it!) so I can revel in my retro baseball glory.
But as far as modern day franchise....there is no going back to 11.
The Show 2012 is the best baseball game of all time.
Yes after one game I can say this. I have played every basball game you can think of over the last 32 years. There is not a single doubt in my mind this is the most realisitc baseball video game I have ever played.
BALL PHYSICS PEOPLE!!!!!
GAME CHANGER!
Bravo SCEA!!!!
