Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I always check the plate vision and in most cases I can get a low vision guy to chase out of the zone. In fact, if I get ahead of hitters, even stars with great vision, I can sometimes get them to chase.
Now, I should also tell you that I play on All Star and have reduced the "CPU Timing" slider and the "CPU Foul Ball" slider. This has helped me get to a realistic number of hits and strike outs for the CPU.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Hi guys,
It’s nice to be here. At first I was frustrated because after so many years not playing baseball at all (my late games were: Triple Play ’98 for playstation (1) and hardball 6 for pc), last year I got MLB 2K11 for the x box. I found the game good even if many people complain about it but I was so happy to find it in Europe where I live.
Why frustrated? This year MLB 2K12 comes out just in the US and it’s not region free, that’s why no baseball for me. Then I got tired and I bought a playstation 3 and of course The Show, the game is region free, great!
What can I say? Astonishing! The game is so realistic, that blew me out. It’s so hard baseball in Europe, here the people prefer soccer, but after I lived in the US and got to know baseball, I won’t go back to boring soccer, baseball is great. You can imagine how happy I am with the show, it’s just fantastic. Thanks SCEA.
I’m a newbie now but thank to you and to this forum I’ll learn a lot from you, thanks in advance.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I would address this the same way I do in the Madden forums, and NBA forums:
Me: "Do you ever just blow out the CPU?"
Response: "Yes."
Me: "Then there's no comeback code. No AI "scripting". No cheating..."
Response: "Uh-HUH!! It happened to me!! I was up 20-0 and I lost!"
Me: "But you just said you blow the CPU out sometimes, and get blown out."
Response: "Well, sometimes!"
Me: "So: The CPU cheats *sometimes".... Ookkkaaaaaayyy...
okay, let me preface what I'm about to type by saying that this is similar to a post I made on Gamefaqs back in the MLB 08 days.
I am not going to declare " comeback code " or the computer cheats or whatnot, but something is very fishy about certain factors in this game that makes you feel like you are just along for the ride if you will.
More than once, and most recently tonight, I have fallen behind 2-0 in the home half of the inning, only to hit a 3 run tying homerun or manufactured some runs to go ahead in my half.
So then the next inning, the umpire just randomly " forgets " the strikezone where 2 pitches in the same at-bat in the strikezone are called for a ball. Ok. Cue the next batter, a slider easily on the next batters shinguards is golfed for a single. Now, the next batter rips one off the 3rd base bag (replay does not confirm this, a ball CLEARLY foul) to tie it 3-3.
Somehow I feel like i may as well put the controller down and watched this happen. I'm not saying comeback code, its just that sometimes this game seems to do what it wants, when it wants. ITS POSSESSED.Comment

Has anyone noticed that on some doubles to the gap, the opposing teams 1B will sometimes get into the path of your runner going for second causing them to take an round about route to the ball. So this should be ruled obstruction. I have video and will provide it tomorrow as it is on the upstairs PS3 and I am using the downstairs PS3 for the rest of the evening.Moderator

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I like the new follow throughs on the two-handed swings, but what about the one-handed swings? Specificaly, left-handed hitters. They just drop the bat as soon as they make contact on the follow through. IRL the batters hang on to the bat handle a bit longer if not throw the bat to the side (i.e. Carlos Beltran.) This would be a nice addition to nex't years game. I woud also like to see (while in broadcast camera pitching) a little bit of a delay from the contact with the batter to the fielding camera view. Overall, the game plays very smooth, although I am still tinkering around with sliders. Can't wait for the OSFM set I will definitely be playing a lot more consistantly and have some better ideas of how to hit against different pitchers.Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
after weeks of playing, i haven't seen a bloop single or one of those high pop ups that drop in no mans land in the short outfield.
Does anyone else feel the field might be too condensed?
Lowering fielder speed might help a bit in making the parks seem more spacious.Comment

I've reduced the hit variety slider down to 2 and I see numerous choppers and bloopers. Maybe too many

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
I am still playing exhibition games, so in long no significance. Playing with the Braves vs. Orioles. I've lost to them two times already. The game seemed to play almost perfectly.
The Orioles jumped out 1-0 Btm 1st. Top 3rd, Freeman 1B, Heyward 2R HR off a fastball inside 380ft blast. I followed up by Hinske 2B. The Orioles Pitching Coach came to the mound. I was up 2-1.
Top of the 4th BMac with 1 on blasts a 2R HR,382ft. I go up 4-1. The Orioles make the pitching change. Heyward comes back up with no one on, he blasts another HR 372ft bomb.
The score was 5-1 Braves.
BMac comes again about the 7th inng, he blasts another HR, 390ft out towards Utah BLVD... I go up 6-1. I scored another run to make it 7-1. JJ was the starter and he was dealing 6 2/3 7H 5K 1ER 1BB on 90pitches.
The Orioles try to make a comeback against the pen. O'Flaherty was strong, they got to Venters for 3 runs, but I brought in CP Kimbrel to shut the door. He recorded a popout, groundout and game ending strike out.
The bottom line of this impression for me. You can not play this game all "willie nillie". You must take it serious if you want wins and proper stats. I was checking the pitcher/batter analysis for the matchup. Pitching to the cold zones, making sure I hit the spots using the pitcher meter. Because this year if you miss the marking on the pitcher meter, you will hang pitches in the zone and they will be crushed... I was fist pumping and dropping to one knee. Hell I felt like I needed a cigarette afterwards...Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread
Loving the game, with the exception of one thing. It has probably been mentioned before, but a search yielded negative results so I'll mention it here.
The franchise simulation stats leave A LOT to be desired. I am seeing way too much offense. There were 24 players in the MLB that finished the season with more than 118 RBIs. IIRC, half of those players had more than 130 RBI on the season. The home runs were decent, but the team ERA's were atrocious - 14 teams had ERA's of 5 or higher. Some of the elite starting pitchers have extremely high ERA's (for them, at least) and good starters are getting shelled beyond belief. In one season I simulated, Doug Fister won the Cy Young Award with a 21-4 record. The problem was, he had a 4.84 ERA.
Way too much offense. It makes it difficult to really get into franchise mode when this is going on.
Anyone know a way around this, or is SCEA aware of the issue? Or is it even an issue? Anyone else seeing this? I have been a way for a while over the past couple weeks and this could have been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything in a search.Comment

Point is, once I bumped up starter stamina 1 and subtracted 1 from both manager hook and relief stamina, it seemed like starter's ERA's dropped and guys like Felix, who with default sliders would always be around 218 IP and a 3.90 ERA, became the Felix we know and love.
Don't know if this was a direct cause of messing around with the stamina sliders, but it sure felt like it.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment
