I assume this is legal in the game of baseball and if so that is one SWEET attention to detail and easily goes under "the little things" thread!!!

I have seen that a few times already and love that attention to detail. Just marvelous work by the SCEA team on this years game.

I have also had 2 HR appeals. Both denied. And they were foul balls (so they get the calls right!).

I am sure I will see plenty more as I am only 18 games into a test franchise while awaiting OSFM.

One thing I am seeing that I am starting to not like. When I have a runner on first and there is a hard ground ball to the 1st basemen. He will field and throw a sharp throw to second, the return throw is a lob that ruins any chance of a double play. In the middle of a game, but I will share the video later.

Usually that's because the 1st baseman doesn't cover the bag..the log is usually to allow the pitcher time to make it over there.

Yeah, if you go back and watch the replay, that's usually the issue. When the first baseman does cover the bag, there's no hitch or delay in the throw.

I'll take this glitch any day of the week.

            Please, DP's...make it stop!

They are way overblown this year. In played games and even in CPU vs. CPU games. I'm seeing 1 per team per game over and over and over again. I believe the MLB average is 0.75 per team per game. Which, may SEEM close, but when you're talking a 25%+ increase, over time, it adds up.

            And they're rally killers!

I say, don't patch it. Just my opinion, though.

Another thing to consider: are you seeing more base runners per game?

Perhaps there are too many hits or walks or not enough strikeouts.

I think this is all tied into the high arm strength issue issue with fielding arm strength. Double plays usually involve a total of 2 throws, that's taking advantage of Jesse Barfield (I really like that term, LOL) 2 times in one play.

Hits, walks, and strikeouts are all within range in mine and the other CPU versus CPU guy's games. In my played games, walks are still exactly 3 for me (just under 4 for the CPU), strikeouts are high for me at around 8 (just over 7 for the CPU), and hits are low all around (just around 8 for me and slightly less for the CPU...but their hits should go up as I just switched to Classic).

I almost always pitch the API, so keeping the ball down is not a problem.

Nomo17K has been tracking groundball to flyball ratios. I seriously think he's watched nearly 200 CPU versus CPU games. If that's any indication as to how this game is programmed, his data concludes that groundballs occur more often than in real life in this game.

Personally, I think the CPU (if it's programmed this way) doesn't "influence flyball" enough with runners on first and less than 2 outs.

That said, I've begun trying to influence flyballs more often in these situations when I've been hitting(R2 and up on R3) and it hasn't really "seemed" to help. Though I'm not recording results of GIDP when pressing the button versus not. Just looking at game totals. And I've yet to see any 10 game stretch where GIDP didn't exceed the total number of games played (per team, per game).

Are you playing with default sliders? Even with that, I'd say that that is within the margin of error though. One thing I've done, and has yielded realistic results (although I haven't specifically tracked and recorded the numbers), is lower fielder reaction time by 1, and increased baserunner speed by 1. Also, deep grounders to SS seem to be base hits when they should be.

I had never seen the 9-3 putout either, until I went back to default sliders and purposely tried to replicate it.

This would be against the rules in baseball if I'm reading your post right. Any baseball that touches a fielder in fair territory, is a fair ball.

My impressions are based on a few things. Default "playing," Default CPU versus CPU games, a reduced Fielder Run Speed and Consistency "playing," and a reduced Consistency CPU versus CPU games (though I just started this batch of CPU testing).

That, and Nomo17K's enormous Default CPU games. As well as his CPU games with reduced Fielder Run Speed, Consistency, Contact, etc.

I agree that 1.0(0-9) is within the margin of error. But at what point is a trend considered a hard fact? I guess that's debatable.

My played games plus my CPU games probably equals around 60. That's a safe estimate. It's probably much, much higher.

If one can assume that CPU games are an accurate representation of the nuts and bolts of this video game, then these results may or may not stand on their own merits. Though I understand that SCEA designs this game to be interacted with by a human too. So it could really understandably go both ways in whether or not CPU data is fair to judge things by.

Over my last 25 games; combining both played and watched, I've seen 47 GIDP's. That's 0.94 per team per game.

In Nomo17K's first 75 games of CPU testing on Default, he saw 1.19 GIDP's per team, per game.

That's 100 games above the three year MLB average of around 0.75.

It's not a game-breaker and doesn't ruin the Show experience for me. And it shouldn't for anyone else. It's just noticable and warrants pointing out.

I think he's talking about where the ball is already in foul territory, in which case it doesn't matter where the player is. Once the fielder touches a foul ball, it's guaranteed to be foul, even if it rolls back into fair territory (which is why they do it: the grass is at a higher level than the dirt, so its common for balls to roll back inwards).

I've seen this happen also (it was in last year), and it is definitely a cool thing to see.

I can definitely say GDIPs are consistently a bit inflated, at least within the small slider adjustments that I have been experimenting with. It might not be to the extent that it annoys people, but it's consistently a bit higher.

Now, if the trend continues, I might try reducing Fielder Reaction to see if that alleviate the trend (I wanna try that but my real life is kinda getting stressful....).

I think part of this is caused by the game producing a bit more grounders in general than IRL (fly ball to ground ball ratio usually tips toward ground ball being a couple % higher... at least in 11 and 12).

And, while this isn't confirmed and there isn't an easy way to confirm, maybe the game's defensive strategy to induce grounders in those situations is a tad more effective (this is what h&v insisted one time).

It was not in foul territory, it was in fair play and did not pass first plate yet. The first baseman ran up and slapped in foul and the umps called it foul ball. Then I went back to batting. At least it looked very much still in play.
