Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

got the game on Friday and I'm very impressed. Played every The Show since the 08 version and this one really blew my mind. There aren't many big, new features but all those little things make this game so much better. The better ball physics are awesome, the new sound while batting is awesome and the idea behind Diamond Dynasty is also good (but there is still a lot of work left to make this mode better). Pulse Pitching is also great. Easy to get used to it and it's a great option if you don't like analog or meter pitching and think that classic pitching isn't too much of a challenge.
Still no cursor batting but I hope that'll be coming in the future.

Overall I couldn't be much happier. I expected the usual yearly update like every year but this year it's so much more. I see new things almost every at-bat, those little things that make the game better and more realistic.

The new umpire personalities. Well. that's great. But game to game I have no clue who is calling the game. They took out the umpire crew intros.

Anyway to know who is calling the game?

ANother positive is the new bullpen options. It is fantastic. Now you can truly manage your bullpen like a major league team. Superb addition.
I thought one of the developers said that they never take things out. A few years ago they stopped having Matt. V. introduce the line ups player by player and now the umps, what's up with that?

I think they meant options....specifically in how you can play the game.

I like a lot of the little new things.

One thing I would've liked to see an option for was to remove the player fatigue. Not realistic I know but at least having it as an option would've been good.

Once you can get the hitting concept down in this game, it it so rewarding. I have been struggling with HRs in my Cards franchise, but my bats are finally coming around!

I'm finding this to be the case as well. I've been in a funk for a while now but when the hits do come its very rewarding

I really liked Analog hitting last year... but man, I think I've fallen in love with Timing.

Something as simple as changing up the settings can really breathe new life into a game. I used Timing last year, but am going to try Analog this year for a bit and see if I like that. Zone is also a possibility.

I finally have too. Some of the hits you get with timing are great.

As much as I get frustrated by the hitting in this game, I think it is so well done. Chris Cupano (spelling) threw 8 innings of 3 hit ball against me in my Nats test franchise, and the next day I chase Clayton Kershaw after 4 innings. You just never know from game to game. Team BA is still a palrty .221 with one game left in April.

Loving it this year, currently working my way through my Tigers franchise. I' 4-5 at the moment in early April. Currently batting around .250 with an ERA of 3.5ish. I'm on all star difficulty with zone timing.

One thing i love about MLB is how organic the game is. Each game is completely different. I love the ebb and flow of the games and how quickly things can turn. Don't think i've ever had as much fun playing the CPU on any sports game ever.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

Picked up the game Friday, so I got to play most of this weekend. I have couple questions and concerns.

                            1) I played 2010 The Show up until the 2012 version. I got pretty use to how 10 played. So when I popped in 12 something felt "off", after finally pegging down what it was I wanted to see if any one else feels the same way or sees the same issue.

Throwing after fielding balls just feels very jerky to me. It is not as smooth as it was in 10. There is pauses and stops in the animations that just look off and can screw up throwing someone out due to the time wasted. I have also had issues with just throwing the ball period. On a double play I might hit triangle to throw to second and immediately hit O when I catch the ball only to watch my second baseman just standing there with his arm in the air doing NOTHING. This has happened to me a total of 4 times just this weekend.

I tried two different ways of fixing this and neither corrected the issue. I tried holding O before the ball reached the 2nd baseman to "preload" the throw, didn't work. I tried tapping O after making the catch, didn't work. So I feel like it must be a bug or something in glitching in the fielding.

This is just one example, but I have noticed it across all fielders. Randomly the fielders will just not scoop and rip the ball out. They will stop, pick it up, slightly spin with arm up to desired direction, jerky motion, then casually throw ball out as runner easily reaches base.

                            2) Does the game use its own "servers"? Another words, when you play online is it not just a direct connection between you and the opponent. Reason I ask is because me and my cousin played a game last night and there was lag. But there is no way this should happen, we are only about 5 streets apart AND we both have lighting fast internet. Hell my internet is faster that 99% of the U.S. and I have since upgraded than the picture you will see. I currently get 50+ megs down and over 25+ up. So it has to be on "The Show" server side issue!! If so this needs to be corrected, especially since a larger focus has been given to online with modes such as Diamond Dynasty.

                            3) Another thing I have noticed with the animation "hitching" is in the base running. I can be holding/pressing L1 like a mad man and it is like every runner does a quick "stop hitch pause" at each base. It is not a smooth continued running past each base. Anyone else see this?

The lighting in this game is flat out beautiful. The shadows, the transitions, the reflections on the helmets! On my 51 inch TV this game just looks stunning.

I have only played 4 or 5 games so far but this title is just sports gaming nirvana. Nothing else in the genre comes close for me.

I am far far from a huge baseball fan but I saw something last night that made me

Soft chopper hit down the first base line. The first baseman runs up and slaps the ball foul rather than catching it. It was then called a foul ball. I assume this is legal in the game of baseball and if so that is one SWEET attention to detail and easily goes under "the little things" thread!!!
