So I played an Exhibition game as the Giants v. the Reds. My pitching was decent, gave up 8 hits, 2 walks, and 3 runs. Two of those runs were early while I was still getting a feel for the game. My hitting is miserable though! I only got two hits (both with a pitcher lol and struck out 16 times lol. So yeah, I was over aggressive with the bat, but I'm working on my patience. All though, this being the first Baseball game I've played a full game on since the days of Baseball Simulator and RBI, I really enjoyed the experience.

I must ask though, what's everyone's prefered pitching? I used the meter and didn't really get the pulse pitching.

You could start out with classic.
It's a bit on the "wild" side...as it plays the most to ratings(the user input is simply a button push....hold for more effort in the pitch.
For beginners....I would say timing hitting/classic pitching.
I like the analog pitching as well though.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - PS3 Impressions Thread

I finally gave in and bought a PS3 for the sole purpose of playing The Show. After being emotionally abused by 2K for the last 4 years I gotta say, this game is amazing.

        Pros:

*Animations and graphics in general are unmatched. Sometimes it feels like i'm watching a real game.
*"The little things" really do make the game. I've had times when I was so fooled on breaking balls that the bat flew out of my batter's hands. Things like that really go a long way.
*Pulse pitching is awesome. I was a little intimidated at first, but it's the most fun i've ever had pitching in a baseball game...it's not a chore anymore. Actually having realistic pitch counts every game is great.
*Up and down, it's just a solid, polished game...there isn't much more to say.

        Cons:

*The trade logic franchise mode is broken. My first season in franchise I thought maybe it was just a coincidence, but just recently I've seen trades like this:

        Nova for Verlander
        Fielder for Konerko
        Wainwright for D. Robertson
Pujols for H. Bell + C RP prospect (whaaaaat?)

There's no rhyme or reason to any of that. The CPU seems to tend to overvalue relievers or make trades just for the sake of making them and all the shuffling of rosters gets old quickly. Hopefully they can get this fixed in a patch; it's almost as bad as NBA 2K12's My Player trading frenzy.

*The commentary isn't horrible, but it certainly isn't up to par with 2K's (pretty much its only redeeming quality). It does flow pretty smoothly and the vast database of last names for CAP is pretty awesome but there seems to be a little too much silence and not enough color commentary to compliment the play-by-play. Again, passable, but not great.

*I see a lot of people raving about ball physics but i'm not overly impressed. Balls hit off the wall or hits that rattle in the corner are done well, but it's the little things that peeve me. I've probably played 25+ games and not once have I been able to drop a bloop and I very rarely see the ball hook down the line. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground when it comes to balls hit in the outfield; it's either a home run, a sharp line drive, or a long fly ball out. Maybe it's my style of play that is affecting this?

*The balls constantly hit up the middle are pretty annoying. What makes it worse is that about half of them actually hit the pitcher, and 90% of the time I see him take these screamers off his chest (or even face!), he takes a couple of seconds to recover and then proceeds to throw me out at first with ease. Vasgersian will go into his little speech about the pitcher being hit and the camera will focus on the pitcher clutching his arm or in pain but no injury has ever become of it. Mind you, this happens at least twice a game for me.

*The outfield and balls hit there just seem...off. Either it's too small or the OFer's themselves are too fast...i'm not sure. I've had a lot of trouble making it to 2nd on balls in the gap that in real life would be easy XBH. I don't know, maybe i'll play around with the sliders a bit more. It's not a game breaker of course, just a bit irritating.

*As a stat-head, the tracking in this game is kind of a let down. I understand there are memory constraints and what not but I wish there could be a bit more emphasis on stat-keeping. I love playing a franchise and being able to look at how guys have progressed through their careers on a deeper level than just AVG, HR, and RBI's. Sabermetric stats like WAR will probably never make it into video games (just because they're so context based) but it would be cool to see calculatable stats like FIP in there. I can dream. Maybe some sort of win share system could be implemented next season.

I know I harped more on the negatives; still I think this is an amazing game...it just eclipsed MVP 05 as the best baseball game I ever played. With a little fine-tuning in the form of a patch it could be close to perfect.

I just hit the pitcher with a line drive that bounced off his shin and went flying into the home dugout. I dunno if thats really realistic or not, but it was funny.

Why is that? What negative thing can come out of letting players wear the flags hats on July 4th or a FDNY or NYPD hat on Sept 11th? It's only one day and they already allow things such as pink bats for mother's day and blue wrist bands and all of that for Father's day. What ******* at MLB thought that would be a bad thing to show those things in a videogame? (Excuse my latin)

Love the true broadcast! This game is hands down the best (looking) sports game I've played. The lighting and graphics --- WOW!

My biggest disapointment is the CPU managerial AI. I was being no-no'd into the 7th inning. Espinosa led of the top of the 7th with a hit(1b) against Dempster and Svuem Immediately came with the hook. His pitchcount was mid 70s. I then loaded the bases and he brought in a lefty to face Jayson Werth (granted Laroche and Ankiel were next)

Has anyone picked up any Umpire tendencies? They didn't introduce them this year or have any commentary about them.

just want everyone to know that it is possible to hit a homerun when using contact swing.

I just hit 1 with ben zobrist against wandy rodriguez who was getting tired in the sixth inning of an exhibition game

I did drop CPU Hook slider down 1 notch, and have gotten better results.

Yeah I like it. With so many reliever throwing 3 days in a row now, I think lowering it makes that impossible.

Plus, sometimes I'll run in to the CPU after they've depleted their bullpen in a previous series, and their bullpen management can get wonky when a lot of their relievers have really low energy levels going in to the game.

I finally got my copy of The Show today and wow am I rusty. My timing is horrendous. I started out playing on the default All-Star settings and by the end of the game I was playing on my default settings with is Veteran with pure analog pitching and hitting. But it didn't help me out much. The Pulse Pitching is a whole lot harder than I imagined. I just couldn't time it at all. I pitched 2 innings with it on All-Star difficulty and ended up with 5 walks in those 2 innings. I managed to give up only 2 runs [both unearned because of an error on a bad throw to first with the pitcher covering.] and 3 hits with only 1 strikeout. I committed 3 errors including a pickoff throw that went into the stands for a 2-base error. On the hitting side I tried the zone plus analog hitting and that was just me trying to do too many things at once and after 3 innings I gave up the ghost on that and went back to just pure analog hitting. Ricky Romero ended up throwing a complete game 2-hit shutout against me with 11 strikeouts. I got 2 singles off him with Chipper in the 4th and Prado in the 8th. In the 9th inning I thought I had finally hit a homerun with Jason Heyward but the ball fell just a couple feet short of the wall. I didn't really noticed anything new with the way the ball reacts. I did notice the new stat overlays and different cut scenes. Including one of John Farrell jumping up off the bench in approval after another Romero strikeout. I didn't come across any bugs. Overall the game seemed to play very much like last year's and that's fine with me.

My first complaint or shall I say minor gripe.

The new umpire personalities. Well. that's great. But game to game I have no clue who is calling the game. They took out the umpire crew intros.

Anyway to know who is calling the game?

ANother positive is the new bullpen options. It is fantastic. Now you can truly manage your bullpen like a major league team. Superb addition.
