That is because it is SUPPOSED to be that way.

Remember, in Spring Training, everyone on your 40 man roster is considered to be on your MLB team (It is this way in real life). Thus, when you "option" a player down to the minors, it uses an option.

As in the Show, real life MLB teams must get down to an active roster of 25 players. In doing so, they must "option" players to to the minors, using an option year. (keep in mind, these players can be called up, and sent down as many times during that season as needed, and it still uses only ONE option year).

As for playoff rosters, to be eligible, a player MUST be on the 25 man active roster ON AUG. 31st, or on the MLB disabled list on or before August 31st, to be eligible for the post season.

Thus, "september callups" aren't eligible for the post season roster.

The only exception, is you are allowed to replace an injured player, with any player who was on the 40 man roster as of August 31st.

I beat up on the Cards in Game 3 and won 8-1

        Game 4 in STL

I'm getting dominated by Westbrook, down 2-0 in the 9th and the CPU leaves him out for the complete game shut out. 2 Outs, Kotsay pinch hits and gets a single. Westbrook still in, first pitch to Venable is GONE!!! 2-2 tie. Bottom half I lose on a walk off walk on a full count and 2 outs....grrr That was a strike blue!!

Series tied 2-2 for the final game 5 headed back to SD

Game 1 in the battle for 1st didn't go the Angels way losing 4-3 Erving Santana has lost 4 decisions in a row. Mark Trumbo launched a 422 ft homer was the only real highlight. Game 2 will feature Texas Alexi Ogando vs. L.A. Angels Garrett Richards at 1:05 pm part of fox saturday baseball.

Did my June draft. I do 30 team control so I had to draft for all teams and tried to keep it realistic, but I did cheat a little bit and let the best Catcher prospect fall to 13 for myself. Hey, I had to do all the work damn it lol. I used MLB.com's top 100 list and plugged in game players from the same position to get the real life players. At the end of the season I will plug in the real names and attributes and try my best to rate them to real life using Knights spread sheets. Lots of work, but get's another year of real players if I make it that far.... I know nothing about these guys. I just went off of the top 100 list so I am sure guys were drafted or ended up with worse or better potential ratings than most would expect. Teams probably drafted wrong compared to what happens in real life I'm sure. After the 1st round I pretty much had to guess since the rest were not scouted, but after the 1st round in the game trying to find anything better than a "D" is just plain lucky anyway.... Here is the 1st round and the supplemental picks.

                Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

While waiting for a hopeful fix to the franchise freezing issue I decided to compile my stats in my Braves franchise.

Currently tied for 1st with the Phillies with 5 games to go in the NL East.

                Pitching:

                Tim Hudson 15-8
                Tommy Hanson 9-9
                Mike Minor 14-5
                Brandon Beachy 10-7
Randall Delgado 2-5 (brought up around the trade deadline after trading JJ)

                Craig Kimbrel 47 Saves

                Hitting:

                Michael Bourn .231 3HR 31RBI
                Martin Prado .295 17HR 62RBI
                Brian McCann .264 27HR 72RBI
                Dan Uggla .289 40HR 102RBI
                Chipper Jones .280 13HR 51RBI
                Freddie Freeman .281 27HR 84RBI
                Jason Heyward .280 21HR 62RBI
                Tyler Pastornicky .248 2HR 34RBI

As you can see Hudson and Minor have put up almost Cy Young caliber seasons. Hanson has struggled to keep the ball inside the park at times with Beachy and Delgado rounding out the rotation fairly well.

Hitting wise it has been Uggla pulling the weight. Every player in the starting lineup have had solid seasons except for Bourn. He just seems to beat the ball into the ground to 1B half the time and the other half he hits line shots to outfielders.

Pastornicky has posted up a decent season rounding out the bottom of the lineup but will likely be replaced by an up and coming Andrelton Simmons.

Jurrjens was traded at the deadline for Edinson Rincon and Robbie Erlin. Rincon looks to be the heir apparent to Chipper Jones at 3rd unless Terdoslavich or Salcedo show that they can handle the job better.

Once my franchise file is back up and not freezing I'll update for the remaining games/playoffs/post season.

                  Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

Okay so I am playing with the Marlins and after spending a few years in last place and letting all my big name free agents go I expected to finish in last place again this year since I entered the year looking like this
                  Catcher Brett Hayes
                  1st Base Gaby Sanchez
                  2nd Base Omar Infante
                  Shortstop Cliff Pennington
                  3rd Base Chris Coghlan
                  Left Field Will Venable
                  Center Field Emilio Bonifacio
                  Right Field Mike Stanton
                  on the bench:
                  Taylor Green
                  Bryan Peterson
Some A rated rookie whose name escapes me
                  Donnie Murphy
An A rated catcher who I drafted last year and has no skills offensively but I needed another catcher.
and I honestly can't even remember most of my starting rotation except I know Ricky Nolasco and Brad Hand were at the top. Anyway at the end of May I was in first place so I decided to trade some C rated pitchers for Todd Frazier. He proceeded to hit 238 with 0 dingers till the all star break when I released him and, seeing I was only 1 game out of first place I decided to sell the farm for Pedro Alvarez, Clayton Kershaw, and Micheal Morse. I will post stats tomorrow.

Well the battle for 1st places was one sided in favor of the Texas Rangers, the finals two games were complete blow outs 23-4, 11-6 left Anaheim with a terrible feeling. I had to unload Jason Isringhausen 39yrs old a 5.35 era. still looking for relief pitcher. Kansas City is next with a road trip to Texas to close out July.

So just screwing around with an Orioles franchise I put together a team to have fun with for a few days...turns out it ha been so fun I'm stickig with it for awhile...my once strong farm system has been ravaged by my trading but I cn build it back up...and remember I made this team just having fun so not realistic...but here it is:
Joel Piniero....huge surprise as my ace
                      Britton
                      Jurrjens
                      Mike minor
                      Roy oswalt....huge disappointment so far

The bullpen is being headed by my new closer Darren o'day...love this guy

1b-Jesus montero....his fielding has been god awful!
                      2b-Roberts/andino
                      3b-ackley
                      Ss-hardy
                      Lf-Dominic brown
                      Cf-bj upton
                      Rf-markakis
                      Dh-nick Johnson
                      C-wieters

Between wieters and montero an Johnson I have a rotation between first/c/Dh to keep them fresh...

Honestly it's not a realistic team but I'm having fun with it...although I am pretty sure I have like one or two b prospects left in the farm system

Game 3 of the NLCS, up 2-1 bottom of the 9th CARGO hits a 2 run walk off bomb of Street to put the Rockies up 2-1 in the series.

Game 4 Clayton Richard throws 7 shut out innings and i used Cashner instead of Street and won 1-0.

NLCS is tied 2-2 between Padres and Rockies.
ALCS is over as the Angels swept the White Sox and are getting a lot of rest.

I am now 10-0 in my White Sox franchise after a 1-0 win over the Orioles yesterday. After several games of my offense exploding I could not get my hitting going. I gave De Aza a day off since he was very tired and moved Gordon Beckham to the lead off spot because he was on fire and batting over .400 in the 9th spot. Well that didn't work as he went 0-4. My only run came from a bases loaded error by the third baseman throwing to first which pulled the first baseman off the bag. With 2 outs runners were going so I was able to score. Good thing my pitching was good enough to keep them without scoring despite giving up more hits than I had. In the ninth they got a leadoff hit followed by a sac bunt. After that fielders choice moved the runner to third. My next 2 pitches were way off but I calmed myself down(myself as in me controlling because I was missing my marks pitching big time causing near wild pitches) to get the last out to fly out in foul territory to end the game. Phillip Humber got the win and Matt Thornton picked up his 3rd save of the season.

I hope I can get my hitting back on track after that poor display. I guess Beckham prefers to bat 9th with little to no pressure but truthfully, I can't seem to get much production from my lead off spot anyway. Game 2 of the series it's Chris Sale time and I am hoping I can have a performance like his last outing where I had a complete game with 13 Ks.

As the manager of the Louisville Bats (AAA of Cincinnati), my franchise record is 43-33, 2nd place in the division to Columbus, who at one point won 13 straight games. I play every pitch of every game, with most of my games lasting right at 2 hours each. I play one game a day, and take off days when the real-life Bats have off-days. I also make every call up or send down that occurs in real life as I try to keep my chise' as realistic as possible, with exact rosters and ratings.
NOTE: How I got so far in to the franchise is that I started before the real life regular season to begin because I knew I had to get a head start on the real life team because they'd catch up to me.

Overall, I love MLB THE SHOW, and only play in the minor leagues (I can't stand having to deal with affecting my true love, The Cincinnati Reds, and would much rather control things down on the farm while watching the big league club do it's work)

I keep the entire organization (MLB-AAA-AA-A) with exact rosters and ratings, and have done this for years.

                                Just wanted to chime in.
