    Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

My new friend HeroesandVillains has encouraged me to start using the thread to update progress with my franchise as I have a pretty cool thing I'm doing... so here goes. I'll probably be creating a blog on WordPress for this, but I want to get started writing now so... here we go.

Jay's Detroit Tigers Franchise - 10 Years of History in the Motor City

I'm taking over my hometown Detroit Tigers for 10 years of full play franchising. Yes, I am insane -- but I've done loooooong franchises with far older and less amazing games than The Show. I purchased the system for this game, and am figuring that this franchise will take me approximately 3-4 years to complete -- hence the blog. I pitch and bat, so I will be presenting a look at a franchise over several years with every at-bat and fielding situation being affected by a Human. I have two franchises alone in MVP 2005, heavily modded to 2011, that have around 8-9 years in full play, so while this will be a looooooooooooooooooong process, I am in it for the long haul.

I will be posting the recap of my first series when I get home from work, and then I will be updating either every two weeks or a month, depending on how easily I can transfer my screenshots from game into reports. Also will be posting my Opening Day roster, but I am using the OSFM May 9th version.

Hope you will be reading, I look forward to making a little history with my Tigers.
I'm just an old guy sports gamer...

Sorry about that, I played game two with Lee and lost, so I'm down 0-2. I'm about to play game three, and I think I'm leaning toward going Hamels, then Halladay if it gets to that.

Your posts have inspired me to do a Phillies franchise. I don't like to sim games, so I will try to play all 162. I'm starting with Utley and Howard on the DL, and my plans are to call them both up at some point in May.

It seems like I'm going to have a lot of low scoring games. I got just one hit on Opening Day, and it would have been a groundout if the infield wasn't playing in. Instead it wound up driving in the only run of the game. I beat the Pirates 1-0, with Halladay giving up just 3 hits in 8.2 innings. I may end up calling up Utley and Howard earlier if I struggle too much with this offense.
Yeah, unfortunately you are probably going to have to get used to it. I remember being 27th in the league in runs scored through the all-star break. Once I called Howard back up (and Utley a few weeks later) that helped, but not a whole lot as I ended up 22nd I believe. Still, the rotation is good enough that you can scrape by.

I also added a few pieces at the Trade Deadline last year, which really helped (power hitting Edwin Encarnacion, and hard throwing Fernando Rodney). Good luck! I look forward to your updates.

In my franchise I was looking at some of the stats around the league after I finished the season, and I was amazed by Troy Tulowitzki's stat line. He hit .316, hit 45 homers, and drove in 162! runs. He won the triple crown with those numbers, and I was stunned by the homers and rbi numbers.

What should I do, I wanted to see how prospects would do if I called them up and simmed the rest of the season ( just a test wasn't going to save ) I'm currently 16-28. So I simmed the rest of the season with the prospects ( Not going to save again just wanted to see how things would play out.. ) Aaron Hicks batted .300 with 60 rbis and 13 hrs, Dozier batted 330 with 12 hrs and 44 rbis, and Miguel Sano batted .264 with 18 hrs and 58 rbis. The guys in their positions are struggling. Caroll is hitting .219 with 1 hr and 10 rbis ( my SS ) Willingham is batting .181 with 7 hrs and 21 rbis ( hicks would take his slot ) and Valencia is batting .261 with 8 hrs and 24 rbis and is the top 5 in doubles in the league ( Sano would take his spot )

Should I bring up the prospects for when I really play or keep the veterans up.. I would then have to trade Willingham and bench Caroll and probably still keep Valencia as a starter at 3rd?

Unfortunately, game 3 was a bust. I swear, I played as well as I could and it just didn't happen. I lost 5-2.

            Stats:

            Hamels: 7 IP, 3 ER, 7 K's, L
            Cueto: 8 IP, 1 ER, 9 K's, W

            Marshal, 1 IP, 1 ER, 1 K, SV

            Votto: 2-3, 1 HR, 2 RBIs, BB
            Bruce: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI
            Phillips: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB

            Mayberry Jr: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 SB
            Chooch: 1-4, 1 RBI

Tigers beat out the Diamondbacks in the World Series. I was surprised the Reds didn't win it all, because they were just smoking everything in sight. I knew their weakness was their rotation outside of Cueto and I just never took advantage of it. Oh well, on to next year!

Is there something wrong with me if I'm mildly bummed for you?

I mean, I'm not saying I am or anything. I'm just asking...

Okay, I am pretty bummed. You got me! LOL! Keep us posted on your offseason Ben! Good luck with contract negotiations and FA.

Haha, thanks man! Is it weird that I'm so bummed? Part of the reason the post-season is so exhilarating is because of how much time I put into getting there. Bummed I lost, but man, its going to make it that much sweeter once I win (I've played about 20 total seasons of the show since '10, and still have yet to win a World Series).

Last year I had little success in the offseason, so hopefully this year will be different. I'll make sure to post throughout the offseason.

So... I have played 4 games of my Franchise.. I am 2-2...

                  Yeah, that is my story.

No, really though, I have been playing my other Franchise where I have the Blue Jays at a 26-10 mark, leading the Yankees by 4 games late into May. The pitching has been LIGHTS OUT and the hitting is typical Jays.

I will have stats at the ASG (I play one, sim five) and should have an update on my Brewers once I get to the end of April (hopefully soon).

                  e. I am also bummed.

I hope you guys don't mind. I'm playing MLB 2k12, but the forums are dead over there. You guys look a lot more active.

23-11 with the Dodgers so far. Pretty spot on with the real team. Kemp is a straight beast, batting .430 9HR and 29 RBIs. Either is next with .300 6HR 27 RBI's. However, the rest of the team is batting below .300 with a combined 9HRs. I made a trade for JD Martinez to fill the void i have in left field.

                      Re: 2012 Franchise Progress Thread

So basically, every year I make a franchise where I just take a team (Dodgers), trade all of their players for the players I want, create myself, and then try to take the league by storm. Before you say that it's not fun, it actually is just because I prefer to play with guys that I am more comfortable with. And I like to play against the other actual teams in the league instead of fantasy draft teams. I can't do a Yankees chise just because I already watch so many of their games it isn't fun anymore :P.

So my roster looks something like this:

                      Spoiler

I'm in my 3rd game, record is 1-1, against the Padres. I absolutely tee off on Dustin Mosely, knocking him out after 3. Fast forward to the 9th, we're up 11-3. I bring in Kimbrel just because he hasn't pitched at all yet in the season and I wanted him to get some work in. I figure it'll be easy, bring him in, mow em down, go home with the W. Apparently the Padres didn't get the memo, because they proceed to absolutely shell Kimbrel to the tune of 6 hits, 2 walks, 5 runs and bring it to 11-8 with 2 outs and men on 1st and 3rd before I finally brought in K-Rob to end it. I was in such shock that they could touch Kimbrel, let alone crush him the way they did. But that's why I love this game so much. Just like real life, no lead is safe.

EDIT: My bad. Kimbrel gave up 4 hits and 3 walks, still 5 runs, all earned.

The only moves I have made so far was picking up free agent Joel Zumaya who has been mediocre at best so far. Here are all the Cubs Stats as well as standings through May 13.

Bengerman's Phillies Franchise (Offseason, Year Two)

                          Notes:
                          • Charlie Manuel retired.
                          • Chase Utley retired.
                          • Notable Free Agents... Brian Wilson, Chris Young, Carlos Beltran, Mike Morse, Joakim Soria, Ben Zobrist, Adam Jones, Matt Garza, Michael Young, Corey Hart, Alberto Callaspo, Phil Hughes, David Ortiz, Mark Reynolds, and Yunel Escobar.
                          • I'll probably be targeting Zobrist, Reynolds, and possibly Morse. I have a budget of 55.4 Million, so I definitely have some room to make a splash.
                          • Roy Halladay was my only big time player up for renewal. I got him for 3 years, 50 million. I thought this was pretty cheap, and this way he should retire a Phil.

** Hunter Pence is also eligible for Free Agency, we'll see if he accepts my arbitration.

I'm in my secound season with the Mariners, and the division race between me and the angels is intense. Last game of the season, if i won we would go to a 163rd game. I pulled it out thanks to Justin Smoak solo shot in the 8th to go ahead 5-4. I havent played the 163rd game yet, but felix is pitching on short rest against a fresh CJ Wilson so it should be a great game, cant wait to play it!

Well I started out 1-9 with my offense being in a huge slump. I then broke out of the slump and improve to 9-14 but then Texas came to Cleveland. The first game Neftali Feliz throws a 9 inning shutout and I lose 8-0. The second game was a matchup between Masterson and Yu Darvish. Masterson went 8 strong giving up only 1 run but that would be 1 to many as Yu Darvish would throw a no-hitter against me. The first time that has ever happened to me in any baseball game.

Chone Figgins: .133 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 2 SB

                                Pitching:

                                Jason Vargas: 5-2, 2.75 ERA, 51 K, 20 BB, .252 BAA
                                Hector Noesi: 4-5, 5.31 ERA, 39 K, 23 BB, .313 BAA
                                Blake Beavan: 3-5, 4.49 ERA, 34 K, 12 BB, .279 BAA
                                Erasmo Ramirez: 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 K, 2 BB, .225 BAA

                                Charlie Furbush: 1-2, 5.51 ERA
                                Steve Delabar: 1-1, 4.46 ERA
                                Lucas Luege: 0-2, 5.11 ERA
                                Shawn Kelley: 1-0, 3.96 ERA
                                Stephen Pryor: 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 9 K (5 IP), 0 BB
                                Tom Wilhelmsen: 2-0, 3.38 ERA
                                Brandon League: 0-1, 3.52 ERA, 15 K, 6 BB, 15 SV

                                Team BA: .261
                                Team ERA: 4.24

I called up Triunfel, Pryor and Ramirez. Millwood was 0-4 with an ERA hovering around 7. I sent down Kawasaki because the guy just sucked for me. If you can't hit, you better be able to play some defense. A three error game in the Bronx did him in for me. Iwakuma got hurt so that opened up a spot for Pryor and he has been lights out.

From here on out, I have some options. Noesi is really struggling and getting hit hard. James Paxton, Taijuan Walker and Danny Hultzen are all dominating in the minors. I called Paxton up to AAA so he's not far off and I think he may be brought up soon if Noesi can't figure things out. I'd like to move League for a B potential offensive prospect... We'll see how that goes. Really close to designating Chone Figgins for assignment, but I like his speed in high leverage situations when I need some speed on the bases.

I have a big game coming up here in a few minutes... Felix vs. Feliz down in Texas. Feliz has been the best pitcher in the AL so far, sporting a 8-1 record with a 2.58 ERA. He's TOUGH to hit.

(Using an earlier version of PsychoBulk's sliders...)
