Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread
Alright so I've gotten some time in with the game and I have to say, it's everything I thought it would be. I am really impressed. Obviously the graphics are not up to par with PS3, but they are gorgeous for a handheld and really not too far off. It plays like its PS3 counterpart in almost every way.
The pulse pitching I've found to be awesome once you get the timing down. And it really makes it tough for you when you're in bad situations on the mound, which I like. I'm having a lot of fun with my SP in RTTS.
Zone + Analog batting was really a challenge. I don't know if it's the sticks or me just sucking (probably the latter) but I got struck out. A lot. Zone is great for me though.
I've also found that I like the speed of the presentation in the game, even if it could use a replay here and there. It is nice to get through games quickly, and the commentary is still great.
The "beach ball" thing looks kind of silly but you get used to it and it definitely doesn't detract from the game. Also the best pitching view I've found is "Pitcher Full." Makes the background crowd look better and I've found it easier to locate my pitches as opposed to Broadcast.
If you haven't got this game for Vita, get it. Now. You won't regret it. It's The Show in your hands wherever you want to play it. Back to working my way up the MinorsGamertag: TheDewComment

I wasn't sure what to expect from 12. Well after playing for 6 hours straight lol I was pleasantly surprised with how much better this edition truly is. Without a doubt the very best MLB game made. Really liking it a lot.
Just wish the sounds of the show bugs from last year were actually fixed!!Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread
I wanna throw my $.02 in on the vita impressions.
A few things I enjoyed and a few quirks I noticed:
I really thought the graphics were awesome, not to say they are exactly on par with the PS3, as they are not. But, the first thing that popped in my mind was it looks like the best thing a PS2 could ever put out, better in most cases. And that is NOT to say that that is bad, it is a good thing. My second thought concerning graphics was "and they are going to only get better from here".
Gameplay, first thing I did was enter my online access code (do it from the PS Store live area (I think that is what it is called) screen), and downloaded the live roster, saved it and took it on the road.
I was trying to play it at my kid's soccer practice but didnt get too much time, as I was talking to another parent. My buddy is the coach so I went into BP to show him the game (he's been thinking about Vita) and he said "Holy (expletive), that looks amazing!".
I only got to mess with it quick, and it was button hitting, vice analog and I stunk it up. So, to maintain my pride I quickly started talking politics with him and put the Vita back in the case.
When I got home, I fired up my PS3 version, created my custom center fielder (me of course), put him on the Cards, and started a franchise. Skipped spring training and uploaded to the cloud.
Grabbed the Vita, and downloaded from the cloud. One thing I did notice is that when I downloaded got on to the show network (or whatever its called) with my Vita and pulled my franchise from the cloud, it logged me off of the show network on my PS3. Not a problem, just wanted to highlight that.
Started my franchise, Cards (me) at Marlins (CPU). The game is built to be played quick, that is for sure, but it does not detract from the experience, imho. It's a fine balance of game speed and pretty much exactly what I want. The announcing was awesome, the graphics were good like I mentioned above (best handheld graphics for sure, with slight crowd pixilation). I did notice some skipping and slowing down when the crowd would cheer and another batter came up, but there was NO slow down in fielding.
The large ball when the ball is put into play I instantly recognized as needed for sight of ball, but once it is played it goes to normal size. Not a detractor at all.
The analog sticks, to me, felt smooth. The only reason it took me so long was that the pulse pitching really rocks! It had me second guessing if I wanted to throw that up and in fast ball ( 1) I wasnt used to pulse pitching and 2) because what if I didnt get the perfect release point and leave one hanging?), definitely an awesome feature (I did leave one hanging and John friggin Buck hit a homer off of Carp).
I was really into it, even without the awesome presentation of the PS3 counter part, it really immersed me in the game (even yelled at Carp for leaving some in a few wheelhouses). I pitched Carp into the 7 innings with 115 pitches (I was getting used to pulse pitching, plus I hung on so I could at least get him a no-decision) had 11 K's and gave up 4 runs. Their pitcher (Johnson) pitched a complete game with 102 or so pitches 3 K's, and we lost 4-2.
Game time, about 30 minutes....
Outside of a few quirks, I'd say this is exactly what I wanted and anticipated from the Vita delivery of the show.
Cheers to the developers on an outstanding job

Does anyone know how to make it so that as a RTTS catcher, I don't have to call every pitch? I tried turning off defensive opportunities, but it still makes me call every pitch. I'd be fine with it if it was a crucial situation, for example a runner at third and less than two outs, or a full count, but I don't have the patience to call every pitch in a game. Thanks!Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread
I am really pleased with this game. I spent hours just trying to get a feel for which batting, pitching and throwing system clicked with me. At this point I am going meter pitching, analog fielding and zone batting but I do hope to transition to zone+analog batting as I love the concept of a stride. It reminds me of the old Baseball Advance from years ago which I loved.
On to the impressions.
+ Commentary is great...better than expected.
+ Graphics are better than I feared...in fact when pitching from "broadcast" it actually looks like a real game. I did settle on "outfield" for pitching cam though. There is room for improvement no doubt but this is a really nice looking game.
+ Controls, wealth of options, depth of the actual game all outstanding.
- I can live without the presentation but simply adding in auto replays would change the entire game for the better.
At the end of the day I think the game is fantastic. I am going to stay away from the PS3 version this year so I don't find myself missing the presentation. I expect the Vita edition would get 90% of my time. Now I just have to figure out how to keep up with the Hot Shots daily tourney....I don't have time for 2 addictions!gt: casey yellowstone PS5Comment

My copy of The Show just got delivered this morning and I am sitting here at work thinking about it constantly. All I want to do is play but for the mean time I will live vicariously through all of you. T-minus 7 hours until I will be home on my Vita for the rest of the night.Cubs (Completely Useless By September)Comment

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread
Love the Vita and the Show. The ability to be able to play on the go is something I personally appreciate. Gaming used to be my big escape from the stresses of work and life in general, a way to unwind from it all. Since my wife was diagnosed with cancer, gaming quickly took a back seat. My PS3 is now solely occupied by my 5 year old. I take her to many doctors appts and chemo, and alot of times I am there waiting for 4-5 hours either reading or browsing the internet. The Vita allows me to play a game I love during those times and keeps my mind occupied. Also being able to play in bed without worrying about keeping her awake with the big TV is a blessing and I hate to leave her side to play in basement . Thank you Sony for making the Vita and the Show as its helping me get through some tough times.

Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread
I got the game yesterday. I was going to get the PS3/Vita bundle at Walmart but they didn't have it, so I just went to Gamestop and got the Vita version by itself for $29.99 with the PowerUp Rewards coupon.
I know there are some complaints about things like presentation and I understand that completely. I wish they gave us the option to have more presentation. That really would have made the game more outstanding. But I get why it's not in there and it doesn't take away from the game too much... because the gameplay is spot on. It plays just like the PS3 version, it just takes a little time to adjust to the Vita's controls.
It is almost jarring the way there are very few cutscenes in the game though. I've only played one full game but I thought it was odd how they had the cutscenes for whenever you would make a pitching change. The manager would walk out to the mound, you see the reliever run in, you see the starting pitcher walk off the field, etc. That's like the only time I saw a good amount of scenes. It added a lot and looked great. Why couldn't they add in more and give us the option to use them?Oh well. At least there are some cutscenes there. It's not a 100% fast forward fest.
The gameplay itself is the most important thing. People want to complain about graphics and presentation but it's all about the gameplay. That's why we play video games in the first place, to have fun playing them. And they really got that part right. My only complaints were that the fielder controls seemed a tad bit wonky at times. And I had three liners hit at my SP. Hopefully that was just bad luck and not a common thing. I've always been good at pitching and not so good at hitting in The Show on the PS3 and that translated over to this game. Having all of the modes is great (minus Diamond Dynasty). Even passing the Vita back and forth to play a game of home run derby with someone else was fun. I'm going to mess around in Road to the Show later. I need to take Kenny Powers on a trip to the big leagues.
There is very noticeable slowdown in the short cutscenes that you get, like a batter stepping up to the plate. But it doesn't happen during gameplay so it doesn't bother me that much at all. Does look weird though. I wonder if it's something they can patch. I wasn't expecting PS3 quality graphics like some people seemed to, so the graphics don't bother me either. I do feel like the behind the catcher view looks better than the behind the pitcher broadcast view though. Player faces pretty much suck but the game moves along so fast and there's not much in the way of cutscenes, so you hardly see them and it doesn't matter too much.
I still need to play more of the game and mess around with all of the game modes. These are just some quick initial impressions. But overall, for the price, I'm very happy with the game. I can say right now that if they can spruce up the graphics just a bit, add in the option for more presentation and fix the character faces for next year, that game will really be amazing. As long as you aren't going into the Vita version of the game expecting it to be identical to the PS3 version, which is silly, then I think any fan of The Show will enjoy it quite a bit.Comment
