Re: MLB 12 The Show - Vita Impressions Thread

I got the vita version yesterday and play 5 exhibition games. Here is quick impression.
Gameplay is much improved to 11 version. I can see the result of new ball physics such as hit variety, and the pitcher throwing animation is much more fluid. It was 2-1 at bottom of 9, and the runner is at first and third with one out. The CPU squeeze bunt on me and tied 2-2. I felt so great to see this kind of thing even if I lose the game eventually.
I am a great fan of classic pitching and time hitting so I didn't try new pitching and batting interface yet, so no comment on new interface.
Graphics is good in broad, but it is little bit blur due to the low resolution. If they optimize it and make it native resolution of vita next year, it will be par with PS3 version. There are framerate dip here and there but it does not hinder gameplay.
Oh. please dev.. add more presentations at least after hit a homerun. It is weird to see that there is a presentation for changing pitchers but not with homerun?
Overall, I am satisfied with the game and I will enjoy it for a year until the show 13 shows up.

Sure. If you screenshot the vita it saves the image at 960*544. What I am saying is the game itself runs at the lower resolution. Uncharted, Everybody' golf runs at the lower resolution than native.

Does anyone here do Analog Pitching on the Vita? How difficult is it to pitch with the sticks? It seems like it would be hard to be accurate with them. Especially how sensitive the analog pitching is.

I have only played a handful of games but I love it. I have to play on rookie with my hit sliders up 2 and the CPUs down one in each batting category. I use pulse pitching and time hitting. I just finished a game (WSH vs Hou -ME-) and lost 1-0 in 18 innings. The only thing I wish that the Vita version would have is homerun celebrations and replays for crucial hits late in the game. But I love it nonetheless.

Finally got down to single digits for the number of times I struck out...9 this game. Really having trouble reading the pitch, especially when the shadows come over home plate but it is getting a bit easier. I can't read a slider for the life of me!

Getting the pulse pitching down fairly good am enjoying using it.
Ha! Same here. Got my first win yesterday. Won 1-0 on a CG SO by Ivan Nova. My first win and a gem pitched. 9i/3h/2bb/7k. Also only struck out 7 times!

It does take some getting used to that's for sure, but I found if you use the touch screen to place your pitch (Thanks to wildfan for the heads-up) then all you have to do is use the right analog to throw it, I love it now. No issues, and still challenging. I'm actually walking 2-3 batters a game.

I love the game but wow...I just can't get the hitting aspect of the game to be accurate. My biggest beef (keeping in mind I am old) is that the lowest pitch speed is still just way too fast for my eyes on this small screen. No way can I judge a ball from a strike. I just wish if sliders were going to be offered they would make the slowest speed too slow for almost everyone...then you could adjust it up.

I can absolutely get hits so it isn't a matter of changing the contact ratings, I simply have no way to judge pitches and therefore there is no hope I will ever draw a legit walk.

I still love the game overall and if they just added some auto replays and offer a slower pitch speed or better pitch rotation recognition I would definitely say 9 out of 10. It is still a must own game for a baseball fan.

Try using guess pitch, it will make it easier to focus on smaller areas of the strike zone

I've had to raise Pitch Speed back up to default, which is a good thing. When I first started playing on the Vita, I couldn't hit anything, so I lowered the slider down to 2. I still struggled but my last 3 games, I've roughed up Halladay, Strasburg and Romero. It's become a little too easy to pull the ball, so putting the slider back at default has helped make the CPU a little tougher to face.

Guess the pitch. I usually guess low because those are probably the hardest for me to judge. If your right then hit with normal or power. If your wrong then cover the high zone and hit with normal or contact. That way you have half the plate covered.

I have settled on meter pitching and timing hitting. This game is great, & I never would have played it without a Vita version that i can transfer to/from. I have finallybuckled down & fiddled with cameras, settings, controls, etc to where im enjoying the game.

SCEA has forced me into being a Show fan with the quality of the Vita game.

I'm in basically the same boat, except I'm so embarrassingly bad at this game that even on Rookie with the pitch speed at lowest setting and virtually every batting slider maxed out I can still barely make contact.

I'm honestly blown away at how hard this game is for me. This is my first baseball game in 7 years and probably will be my last. I don't have time to practice or learn, and if I can't tell when I'm supposed to swing, I guess baseball games just aren't for me.
